Years ago, my aunt gave me one she had at her home with my baby pictures (she babysat me). I still have it. The foam inside is yellowed, but the pictures are in good shape. One is me on my inchworm (remember those?!?).
It’s Ironic you asked this, because my Mom told me sadly yesterday that ours fell in the floor and broke. It had baby pictures of each of us four kids and a photo of her and Dad. We took it out of the cube last year for the photo display at his funeral. Someone didn’t put it back on the shelf right and it broke yesterday 😢
I'm going to make one for my dad for his birthday. He used the plastic cubes for the awful outtakes. It was hilarious. I had forgotten about them, but I will remind my sister, and we are totally doing an "awful pictures" cube!
I purposely made a couple extra pics and installed them, one was a picture of my mom with crazy hair during a monsoon, and one was me being goofy, but then I gave her extras to swap out
My dad used those for awful pictures. My mom kept "good photos" in photo albums. But my dad put the "outtakes" in plastic cubes. Lmao. Thanks so much for the memories.
One of my favorites was the "dog" cube. Mom trying to get cute pictures of us with the dog, and, well- dogs and kids. Holy crap so funny. Again, thanks for the reminder.

My mom thought she had reached nirvana when us kids gifted her a digital photo frame with about 100 family photos uploaded to it.

Aunt had one so yellowed with age you could barely make out the family photos.
Little-Efficiency336@reddit
Still do.

So high tech back then. I remember these.

Wow I had totally forgotten about these!

My grandmother had one (or 2) of them. Once she got to be a great-great-grandmother, she may not have used them any more.
Or they just fell behind the table where she kept photos.
zsreport@reddit
My grandparents had these in their houses
bukriv@reddit
Thanks for posting this. I have forgotten about photo cubes. We had those at home in the 80s.

Pretty sure I gave one to my parents as a gift.

Still have one -- loaded with the photos my grandmother picked. I haven't messed with it because I think the entire thing will disintegrate if I do.
Extension_Excuse_642@reddit
Yup!
KellyzKillaz@reddit
Wait, family never had one when I was a kid. But I have had one on my workbench in my garage for the last 30 years. 🤣
UnderstandingQuirky8@reddit
I guess you could say we inherited one from my grandparents.
-Viscosity-@reddit
We've got one in the hallway. It has pictures of our old cats in it. 😁
jojowasher@reddit
Had? I made a 3D printed one for my mom a couple years ago!

You're posting in r/GenX , so you've got to be at least 46 years old.
In all that time, you still haven't been able to wrap your head around the difference between "who's" and "whose?"
ItzLikeABoom@reddit
Ugh lol my mom had a huge amount of these. Drove the old man up the wall!
adryanne@reddit
I still have one (with pics of me and my siblings) that originally belonged to grandparents.

And now we have digital frames with 1500 photos. Technology can be good for some things.

I loved our photo cube. It balanced on its magnetic corners on a base and kind of floated and spun around.
MarqBarq@reddit
OMG you just unpacked memories long forgotten. Yes! They broke easily.
AgeNo9436@reddit
There's one on my wife's desk right now.

How quaint compared to current families’ picture frames that cycle through hundreds of photos.
