Did any of you guys worry about printing all of the time the first time you carried?

I dont even have anything of my own yet but i tried on my fathers holster and i felt like i was printing like crazy but he told me nobody would even notice. Is this common?
iraisecane@reddit
Actual just got called out in a fast food place. Guy made a comment and when he left, told me not to start any trouble...🤪
AccomplishedTrack211@reddit
You MAY have been printing with your dads holster. Not every holster is made for concealed carry and different holsters work for different people. However, most people are totally oblivious to someone concealed carrying.
DavidStach672709yes@reddit
YES!!!! My goodness, I totally thought I was printing. My wife said the only reason she could see it is because she KNEW it was there. It takes a little getting used to carrying 2lbs on your belt and ignoring it. Also depends on what you're carrying.
My Echelon 4.0c is a little bigger than my Hellcat Pro Comp, but, The Echelon conceals better for some reason. Possibly holster choice.
610Mike@reddit
When I first started carrying, no. Didn’t even come into mind. Granted I was 21, so I was young and dumb. As I’ve gotten older, I take into consideration every time I get dressed whether or not I’ll print or not, and I adjust what I’m carrying with what I’m wearing that day accordingly.

I’ve been carrying IWB or OWB, depending on the firearm of the day, for many years, and in all those years only one person has mentioned seeing my print. It’s normal for a newbie to carrying to feel self conscious, that will pass. Refrain from touching it repeatedly while carrying (also normal for most new carriers). Where it all day, every day, it will soon feel normal.

The only time I ever had an issue was in a grocery store where my shirt wasn’t long enough to cover my firearm if I was bending over. Some kid that worked there told the manager on duty that he felt unsafe. The manager was very apologetic but said that store policy was no firearms allowed. I said I had no idea. I was told there was a sign on the door entrances. Well that isn’t a sign it’s a sticker and you can’t see it when the automatic door is open. I know for a fact that I am not the only one who carries in the store.
When asking the actual store manager about it he off the book told me if he and the other managers don’t see it they aren’t going to worry about it. If they do they will ask that you lock in your vehicle.
Anyway the manager on duty just asked that I finish up as fast as possible and sorry for the inconvenience. I checked out no problems.
I still do carry when going there. I just wear longer shirts.
SpiritMolecul33@reddit
Walking to a sketchy gas station with people posted up by the front door and the wind is blowing your shirt into your gun you'll notice.. other than that I really dont care
Lopsided_Egg_6638@reddit
Yes, but you get over it quickly.
New carriers are often easy to spot, not because they are printing but because they won’t stop touching it and pulling on their shirt to check coverage. Put it on, leave it alone, and most people won’t pay you a bit of attention.
HK_Mercenary@reddit
You might print a little if you have the wrong clothes for that weapon / position choice, but 19 times out of 20 people won't notice, and those that do either dont know what it is under your shirt, or they aren't who you're concealing for. Once you figure out your ideal setup to carry without printing, you'll forget that worry entirely.
james_68@reddit
There are 2 types of people who carry. The ones that were extremely aware of their own gun the first few times they carried and the ones that lie about it.
That being said I recently had a coworker tell me she’s never been in the same room as a gun. I almost fell out of my chair. Then I started sharing some statistics with her….
HK_Mercenary@reddit
I would have told her, "Yes, you have..."
Silver_Trinity@reddit
Just put a plastic trainer on the other side, people love to gamble nowadays so they got a good 50/50 of finding the real one or the house always wins by keeping a third in the hid-in place……
AutomaticMonk@reddit
Taking body shape, garment, and holster into consideration... you will print occasionally.
But, people don't really pay attention. You are familiar with carrying concealed, how often do you actually notice when someone else is printing?
santar0s80@reddit
No one is looking at you as much as you think they may be. Cops may watch you if you are fidgeting and constantly adjusting. Most folks are just trying to get thru the day.
AutomaticInc@reddit
Most people are oblivious to their surroundings. I met a girl recently who has been living here in Florida for six years and has never seen an alligator.
gittenlucky@reddit
I went to a festival in Maine and after it I mentioned how it was interesting to see so many people open carrying. No one I was with even noticed.
Kurkil@reddit (OP)
Lmao
Rebel_Yell27@reddit
Most people are utterly oblivious, so much so you’d have to literally tell them you’re carrying a gun, and even then they wouldn’t know where to look for it often.
How are you conceal carrying it?
EvergreenEnfields@reddit
I once had a cop take five minutes of conversation to notice that I was open carrying.
A Super Blackhawk. On a full-tilt, no-shit gunbelt slung low on the hip.
People need to pay better attention to their surroundings.
Remarkable_Attorney3@reddit
Doc? I didn’t know you’s back in town.
Dry_Cat5325@reddit
Great gun
ga-co@reddit
I agree with that, but I bet the people who do notice are people who carry themselves. I like trying to spot concealed guns in public.
Rebel_Yell27@reddit
Honestly, more often than not the only reason I see a concealed handgun is because their shirt wasn’t long enough to obstruct it either when they reach up or they’re sitting down.
Kurkil@reddit (OP)
Well im planning on buying something but i live with my mother who is a little nervous about bringing a gun into the house so when i went to my fathers house he let me put on his appendix holster. I like it honestly. It feels natural.
Rebel_Yell27@reddit
If it’s AIWB then I doubt anyone will notice.
I pocket-carry, and honestly at times it feels like one step removed from just open-carrying.
In spite of that I don’t think many if any notice it.
BeerJedi-1269@reddit
Nah my Jennings is invisible in my prison pocket.
Ok-External6314@reddit
At first yes. Now, no. People aren't paying attentionÂ
PapaBobcat@reddit
I always worry about printing. Nobody notices or has said anything.
4514N_DUD3@reddit
I was paranoid at first as well. I even attached a claw which helped a little bi with the printing, but really, you'll get used to it pretty quick and realize that no one actually notices. Everyone's going through their daily life as well and won't be paying attention to some other dude. You have to be doing something really wrong that you're printing enough for it to be that noticeable.
fluknick@reddit
No.
Clunk500CM@reddit
Printing: I just don't care if I'm printing. But then again, I am from a state that is pretty chill when it comes to guns.
Dung_Beetle_2LT@reddit
I think it’s natural when you start out. Eventually you realize you can have a dick and balls hanging from your forehead and most people wouldn’t even notice.
OperateTitan@reddit
Yes. But you’ll get over it quickly. Wear darker colored shirts at first to help.
Kurkil@reddit (OP)
Yea my dad told me that patterned shirts help too
OperateTitan@reddit
Yes. Just not solid stripes. That’ll be like a topography map on your shirt lol
cathode-raygun@reddit
Everyone worries about printing when they start, then you stop caring when you realize that most people are too occupied with their own life to notice anything.
roostersnuffed@reddit
Lol I remember my first time carrying. Got my CWP the day of a 12h solo road trip.
1 hour in I stop for gas in bumfuck. Gun concealed AIWB, I walk in and immediately feel the CIA watching through the shops 80s quality security cams.
I go to pay for my pogey bait nervous as shit. The card scanner asks for my code, I put it in and the cashier says "huh, never heard a pin that fast." Granted it was 4444 but still. I made some awkward response and bolted.
Kurkil@reddit (OP)
Lmao i hope this isnt me but it probably will be
roostersnuffed@reddit
Very well could be, overly cautious is better than flippant. You'll get accustomed to the point you forget its there, just takes time.
natedoggIEE488@reddit
Yes until I realized people don't care/aren't paying attention. You probably aren't printing as bad as you think you are anyways.
AboutSweetSue@reddit
Like others have said, most people don’t notice things like that. I’m very experienced with firearms, but I’d be oblivious to whether you are carrying or not unless I was really checking for it and you suck at concealing. So…good chance I miss virtually all.
spider_enema@reddit
When I first started carrying I worked at a place that encouraged it, everyone was packing. Had a game going of who, at the end of the day, had the biggest gun on them. One January a welder pulled out a draco he had on him all day. None of us had noticed.
That really helped to get over the worry. Even people on the look out have a hard time seeing a full sized 1911 if the holster did it's job.
Kurkil@reddit (OP)
Thats wild
CleveEastWriters@reddit
To address your concern, something to help relax you. I was a at a Denny's one night. It was packed I got up from my seat and tripped. Stumbled forward, almost fell but caught myself. My shirt gets pulled up though. I grab it and pull it back down. Waitress laughs at me and says "We all saw it" as she finishes putting drinks on a table. Probably 20 people who shrugged it off. No manager threw me out. No one screamed in fear. Just meh and that is the most likely outcome.
Kurkil@reddit (OP)
Lol sounds good
zmaint@reddit
Wear shorts. Wear two different non matching socks. Go to town. See who notices. The answer is pretty much no one. John Q Public is too engrossed in themselves their phones etc... to even notice if you print slightly.
DY1N9W4A3G@reddit
That's totally normal for most first timers. The paranoia goes away pretty fast... unless you really are printing like crazy.
TheGreatTesticle@reddit
I bet you're never noticed anyone conceal carrying unless they were very sloppy about it. I started casually looking after I started carrying and I notice belt clips, but never really printing.
arethius@reddit
The belt clips are always the give aways.
You'd need flir cameras/metal detectors to catch all the other ccws
StrikeEagle784@reddit
Yeah a little at first, but eventually you just get used too the fact that you’re carrying and then you start to realize that most people aren’t paying attention to you, or even their surroundings lol.
robbobster@reddit
I've never noticed anyone else carrying/printing...have you?
Kurkil@reddit (OP)
Never. Good point.
wild66side@reddit
imo you’ll be more self conscious which is a good thing since you’re carrying a firearm. most people are oblivious to the world let alone what someone else is wearing. threats will always be searching for prey so they’ll size you up and maybe realize you have a gun. they’ll either leave you alone or decide how to take it from you. weapon retention and security is your next training area.
Kurkil@reddit (OP)
Understood. At least i know im safer knowing i have it on me
BrockLV@reddit
I'm thinner and worried about printing, but literally no one notices. I wear shorts and a T-shirt in the summer and again, no one notices. I think the only people that will notice are people that are carrying themselves.
MediocreVibrations@reddit
People are oblivious. Wear a dark shirt with a pattern. Anything flannel pattern is perfect
PreciousChud@reddit
Depends on the area too. When I carried in Illinois I was more paranoid. Now in Arizona I don’t care.
Wear a good belt. Good holster. Dress around it with darker looser shirts or patterns like plaid.
End of the day. If you’re not breaking any laws don’t sweat it too much.
