I can still recite (most of) The Great Smoke Off by Shel Silverstein. "Now in the layback California town of sunny San Rafael..."
Chance-the-gardner@reddit
I listen to this every thanksgiving with Aliceâs Restaurant.

My nickname was Pearly Sweetcakes when I was a tiny child. (Mom and Dad were HUGE Dr. Demento fans) Fast forward like twenty years when I found out where my parents got it from. I was SHOCKED to say the least.

My wife just asked me why I was laughing so hard! Thatâs one of the best parental goofs ever!

i dated a guy that went to santa cruz state, where tom leher taught some kind of musical theater performance. i saw then do a condensed version of finnian's rainbow
tom leher had a strange...persona? i think i made him feel strange from my staring at him. i have an unblinking sort of stare when i really want to grab life by the eyeballs LOL!

I just scored 'An Evening Wasted With Tom Lehrer' on cd today for $1. Kip Adotta was a regular on the comedy game show Make Me Laugh in the 70s and it's hard to find but worth watching for fans of comedy in that era. Garry Shandling was also a regular and I noticed Kip had an appearance on the Larry Sanders show in the 90s.

This is mine too. Itâs funny but also kind of creepy?
I only ever heard this one on Dr. Demento which in my area was on at like 2am. I was in 7th grade, and stumbled across it one night. As the youngest kid in my family, my older siblings were usually the ones to introduce me to anything pop culture related. To find this on my own, it felt like I had discovered something secret and underground. Haha!

Itâs a southern preacher going on about hell, and how hell is a dance floor that only plays one song. That one song is not about burning or fire, but implies heat - âI Melt With Youâ by Modern English. I used to listen to the Dr. Demento Show religiously in my high school and college days back in the '80s, and I still have dozens of cassettes full of songs that I taped off the show. I even went to Dr. Demento's 20th Anniversary Celebration concert in San Francisco in 1991.
Picking a favorite is tough, but I need to mention "It's Halloween," which I first heard on one of his Halloween shows. It was my introduction to one of the most amazing albums ever recorded, Philosophy of the World by the Shaggs.

I don't know if it was Dr. Demento, it may have been, but there's a story-song about a guy who, i think, hitches a ride with a truck driver, and the chorus keeps getting details added to it. I had school the next day after all.

I can't find it on YouTube, but im pretty sure about the name. It was kind of naughty, with some part of it going "A, E, I, O, U, uh, uh, uh." I guess it was more obscure.
