When I was little, I was told I now have a stepmother. This was my first thought

No one explained much about it to me, Snow White and Cinderella is what I knew. I had the books with records, a Disney story book, and saw these in the movie theater too.

As a stepmom, I know how fucking hard it is for the stepmothers. Read the book "Stepmonsters" for a clue. Yes this Disney image is covered in the book.

I’ve heard of this. I know some step parents are really great. My step father and on the other side of the family, step grandfather, actually talked to me like I counted as a human being, something I didn’t get anywhere else in the family.

I am a stepmom. Hope they don’t see me this way

It's sad, and there are some psychological principles at play that I didn't know about when my stepkids were younger. It's not a great book, but "Stepmonster" was helpful to me. So much of this isn't personal, even though the people who had or have stepmothers believe it is. It often has zero to do with how good or loving or kind or helpful we are. Which I think is good to know.

Mine was an evil bitch so it's not just fairy stories.

I rarely have anything to do with mine as well. Also was an evil bitch towards me. True, I've learned how to; type, manners, and laundry. Yet there was no love in that house. While my sister and I lived in Panama (Dad was in the Air Force), the ladies I knew through church were the ones that raised me. They provided love, mentorship, kind words and encouragement. A breath of fresh air compared to receiving emotional, psychological, physical abuse on a daily basis at the hands of the step-monster. I remember trying to provide ice water for everyone during yard work, the summer that sister and I finally went back to the States. Step-monster lost her fucking mind, snatched the cups off my hands and threw them across the lawn.
Side note, now she pulls an act of "nice". Knowing that I am strong enough to beat her ass.

Seems accurate to me

Step can be no joke. My dad's second wife kicks out my older sister. Wife three kicked me out. Wife 4 kicked out younger siblings. My older sister says it was because she was a really bad delinquent. I was a nerd. Younger ones, the parents couldn't parent and sent them to religious boarding schools that my siblings said were awful.

You dad has a type

The cartoon was a PSA.

Step monster doesn't necessarily have to be female

A stepmother is often worse than a mother in law.

That’s my now!!

Ugh mine was Disney level evil.
UnicornFarts1111@reddit
My dad was married 4 times. My mom, and then 3 other women. I never once considered those women a step parent, or any other kind of parent and always addressed them by their first names.
aogamerdude@reddit
Back then if I were around you & you told me, I would have thought that too.
Delightful_Helper@reddit
Oh so did I. And to make matters worse my birth mother called me Cinderella because my step mother was always making me do chores . The only difference was I didn't have any step sisters
Amazing-Butterfly-65@reddit
My step doesn’t look that good

My first thought when told the same - I've spent at least a decade apologizing for being such a miserable little POS.
