An alternate history where Lance Henriiksen played Data is certainly something to consider... would've been a very different and more intense character
Hell yeah, this is the coolest post I've ever seen on Reddit. Are you willing to share how you came about this, so I can find more historic memorandums?
The source for most of the TOS ones is the book “Inside Star Trek”, and the TNG ones from the Star Trek TNG companion. Both pretty required reading for any fans of those series.

Probably wouldn't have gotten Millennium.

I don't think anyone else except Brent Spiner could have truly played Data.

Lance Henricksen would've been hella badass as Data. Holy shit.
Geetright@reddit
PS as Data would have been strange!

Yeah!! He's not a toaster.
Tolmoj@reddit
So how did he go from being considered for the role of data to Captain?
EmptyBuildings@reddit
It looks like, originally, the captain was to be an android.
haresnaped@reddit
I don't get that from this memo.

I think you're right. The two paragraphs are two separate thoughts

Well, they got there eventually and that’s all that matters :) Sometimes you just have to throw stuff at the wall to see what sticks

It’d be amazing to have an episode, go back in time, and show the show’s creators what they (eventually) did.
