Where can i find a good modern resume builder or template, resume writer or tool to help. Apparently my unedited 9 years of experience is no longer attractive unless I have a modern looking resume.

Getting told they are impressed with my skillset and experience, but that my resume is outdated and doesn't meet their standard has to be one of the most ridiculous things I've heard in a while.
Apparently what you can do even after showing them no longer cut it, but a well designed piece of paper saying i can do what i just demonstrated to them does?
I need to move and grow with the times i guess. Where do you guys go to view great modern resume templates or what's the easiest way and efficient tool to help with this.
Urgently needed.

I just found this resume tool https://www.resumevita.io. Has anyone used this yet? Does it do what it says it will do?

I used kantan hq based on an earlier recommendation. I think they specialize in tech. I had them do a rewrite for me but they had a template too.

Try cviel
building_85@reddit
Maybe try just using grok or chatGPT. Just throw in your old resume and ask them to modernize it for you.
AI helps me out a lot with all kinds of things… business design docs, expense reports, accounting analysis, etc.

I picked some free template on canvas it's super easy to use
Doobeewoo@reddit
I used to do my resume on Overleaf using LateX. But recently I switched to Canva because it has tons of good templates and it's super easy to have a good resume quickly.

I feel your frustration! It's crazy how a well-designed resume can make such a difference. I was in a similar boat recently and stumbled upon jobsolv's free AI resume tool. It was a game-changer for me - automatically tailored my resume to match job descriptions and made it ATS-friendly. Saved me tons of time and stress. Maybe give it a shot? Whatever you choose, don't let the resume format overshadow your awesome experience. Good luck with your job hunt!

Checkout the FAQ on r/EngineeringResumes - there are a ton of great resources on exactly this.

That sub is the bimbe leading the blind. They will swear up an down your resume is worthless without all these arbitrary things like percentile metrics. The problem is they've taken resume advice from fields like marketing and finance and have tried to force them into engineer and it makes zero sense.
MinimumArmadillo2394@reddit
My favorite thing is how they throw out that you need the STAR method on every bullet point. You also, according to them, need to have short bullet points, which is the antithesis of STAR.
The thing I hate about that sub is that the mods are generally the only ones who reply to anything, and most of the time their advice is either extrordinarily generic (IE: you need metrics) or its entirely useless and demonstrates they have no idea what theyre talking about.
Bonus points in that youll get a DM from their automod for the next 12 months asking for success stories for their "work" and they literally will not stop trying to contact you, even after you request it. Its almost harassment at some point.
Trash subreddit. Do not recommend.
chicknfly@reddit
On far too many occasions, I watched people provide advice to the respective OP despite the title saying they landed a job with the résumé their presenting. I just left that subreddit maybe five minutes ago as a real, realizing the majority of posts involve people who don’t read the wiki or have 0 YOE wondering why they can’t land a job
kenflingnor@reddit
I’d still recommend the wiki on that sub though, there’s good guidance in there and some good templates. But I agree, they’re pushing the metrics agenda which for devs in most cases is made up BS.

Thank you!!! How did i not think of this at first. Will look it up thank you again.

I like myperfectresume.com.
Ironically, it's not perfect, but it's pretty great.

I would suggest moving to LateX. Personally I use overleaf platform to work on it, but the biggest adventage is that you can get the code and use different compiler any time.
Also there is bunch of CV templates in the web, also on the overleaf.
PragmaticBoredom@reddit
After reviewing thousands of resumes from candidates and over a hundred volunteer resume reviews, I do not recommend anyone switch to LaTeX unless they are already have a lot of LaTeX experience.
LaTeX resumes seem like a great idea, but I've seen so many people waste hours chasing LaTeX tooling issues, trying to get their resume to render properly when it was fine 6 months ago, and fighting unintuitive formatting issues that could have been fixed in 10 seconds flat with a simple Google Doc.
LaTeX export also provides ways to shoot yourself in the foot with ATS compatibility that aren't as common with simple Word or Google Docs resumes.
canadian_webdev@reddit
Agreed. Talk about overengineering.. just use Google Docs.
TreacleOk8645@reddit (OP)
I've seen this during my research, is there like an AI that generates or something, or they have workers who writes?
Best_Kaleidoscope_89@reddit
They are just formatting templates that look nice and professional. I would avoid using AI to write your cv. It will just sound generic and sound just the same as anyone else using AI. Figure out the content of the cv yourself. Go for quality over quantity of applications if you want to get anywhere.
Old_Republic8603@reddit
It's community based I think, so people just uploads their templates.
AIs like chatGpt are a great help tho, LateX syntax might be tricky and at least chatGpt works well with it.
Breklin76@reddit
Just use LinkedIn’s resume builder. It’s free and outputs the the proper formats for the auto readers.

Pay the $5-20 for a site with a good builder

Checking for clarification, could that mean "oh cool this guy has done 9years of ColdFusion, but we want someone that knows Laravel" or something?
Or did you have the required skillset, and it really was "this is ugly"
Anyway I got my base resume layout done via resume.io. kind of have me a good start
That was a few years ago though before AI was shoved into everything
TreacleOk8645@reddit (OP)
I got the skillset they need, but wasn't all on resume, (they want to show the higher ups or whatever) was their excuse. I guess i needed to list it all out.
sccrstud92@reddit
"My experience wasn't on my resume" is not the same problem as "my resume isn't modern looking"
foxj36@reddit
Yeah I used python a lot for prototyping, automation, and internal tooling in my last role. It wasn't really on my resume since our production software was not in python. The recruiter for my current role called me and asked if I had more python experience and I told him. He asked that I add it to my resume and it helped get me my current role.
zireael9797@reddit
I haven't actually tried it out but Cursor actually made me a pretty good resume in a pure html file. I did a lot of back and forth to adjust it to my needs.
yet_another_uniq_usr@reddit
Communication is a skill we assess in engineering candidates. The resume is part of this assessment. If you can't write a concise and clear resume, then you are probably going to write confusing code and documentation.
Arkarant@reddit
Tbh you might have done nothing wrong - the excuse they give u is just an excuse at the end of the day. The most important part is they said no. Their reasons are probably different but they give you an official version.
Brushing up the style could still be beneficial, but at the end of the day your skills and experiences are what makes the difference.
Bgold111@reddit
If you want to lazy about, probably sit back and let an AI help you create one while you enter your details, experience and qualifications? You should checkout MordernResumeModernResume
Would want to get your feedback on it's flexibility.
