Someone should actually manufacture these.
Crazy-Red-Fox@reddit
Ask Ruger.
judahandthelionSUCK@reddit
They're already making the Mini-14.
Crazy-Red-Fox@reddit
That's exactly my point.
judahandthelionSUCK@reddit
The Mini-14 doesn't take STANAG mags though.
Muckmenofficial@reddit
So buy 7 mini 14 mags and call it a day. Sure it kinda sucks having to buy a different kind of magazine but it’s only a one time investment, not like you have to buy a new magazine every time you shoot one.
judahandthelionSUCK@reddit
I want the novelty of an M1 Carbine that takes STANAG mags and 5.56 though.
Muckmenofficial@reddit
Totally fair. I think the mini 14 is still the closest thing you’ll get to that, I know a couple people make repro wood top hand guards which should help it look a bit more M1 carbine-ish
judahandthelionSUCK@reddit
I guess I could just get a normal wood stock for my Mini-14.
KeeganY_SR-UVB76@reddit
Wait, you don’t?
tghost474@reddit
Dear ruger FUGGIN THIS!
Mako_sato_ftw@reddit
i think he was ahead of the game with this one

Gordan Ingram might be one of (key word one of) the most underrated gun designers ever. Along with John Pederson.
Electronic_Camera251@reddit
The story behind the prototyping and “production” of these is wild af including the Dominican Republic and somalia
Electronic_Camera251@reddit
These have quite the tangled web of intrigue and corruption surrounding them
BrokenBodyEngineer@reddit
The hell is the mag retained? I can see the mag cut.
TekuizedGundam007@reddit
Now if Ruger could do this with the Mini-14 and then bring back the Mini-30 to use AK mags….
fromthewindyplace@reddit
lmao, look at the mag catch cut just peeking out of the bottom. Would it have been that hard to make at least a semblance of a mag well?
AlecIsSoTall@reddit
That was my first thought, I guess they used the very top of the mag catch to retain in the magwell? Idk I'd love to see a closeup of the actual mag catch mechanism to see what's keeping that in there. I somehow doubt it reliably aligns the magazine correctly if it's just a small tab holding on for dear life.
MlackBesa@reddit
From the looks of it, it does seem like it is retained on the spine by a regular M1 carbine mag catch lol, I bet it chews up mags like crazy, I wouldn’t want to go prone and slam the mag on the ground
NormalfloridaCitizen@reddit
Mini 14 need this magazine conversion
osmosisdrake@reddit
So... a Mini-14?
kmikek@reddit
I bet the price tag was significantly different. the beauty of the mini-14 was ruger doing everything to keep the costs of manufacturing to a minimum (rough parts that worked)
Cliffinati@reddit
But with good magazines
alexmikli@reddit
You think that something like this would have caught on and not the Mini-14 we know.
bobbobersin@reddit
This would be intresting to see today, the stenag compatabality plus persumably being able to use surplus m1/2carbine furnature seems pretty neat, I get the mini 14 exists but if this was accepted I feel like that would reuse more parts then the mini 14 (which as far as I know uses no compatable parts with the larger M14 other then form and nothing with the M16 other then shared calaber)
justaheatattack@reddit
we have mini-14 at home.
J3RICHO_@reddit
Mini-14 but with extra steps
Nerdenator@reddit
ftfy
Friendly_Hornet8900@reddit
Mini 14 at home
RaiderCat_12@reddit
Literally just a Mini-14 in the M2 carbine’s clothing
WalkerTR-17@reddit
So basically a mini 14 but with the right mags
somewhatbluemoose@reddit
That would be fun
