How would Evergrande collapse in this situation? They're selling real estate, usually in the form of apartments in China. Getting an apartment in China seems to be incredibly sought after, as there's a housing crisis, so you've essentially got massive demand for the shit you're selling.
Now you've got the perfect business. Demand is sky high, supply is low and you're the one doing the supplying and can set the price.

Oversimplifying:
If you promise 30 units, sell 30 units, and deliver 30 units (give or take), nothing wrong can really happen unless it's an uninsurable "Act of God".
If you promise 600 units, sell 3000 houses (to account for cancellation and "a booming market, c'mon don't be a pussy"), and attempt to build 5000 houses (meaning you borrowed money to build 2000 more, "DONT BE A PUSSY, PUSSY!"), You can still somewhat be fine.
But then the market cannot handle buying/building/delivering/equipping much more than 1000 units, you are now stuck in a death spiral of needing to refund 2000 units to clients ("I told you you shouldn't have done that...."), while owing another 2000 units' worth to the banks ("It's ok we'll talk to 'em. I'm blaming you though, pussy").
If this happens during, say, a post covid inflation AND a local chinese bank credit crunch, you just cannot do anything. Client want their houses, Bank want their money, and you have 1000 units built. And it's not like you can cancel construction of a half tower and get a full refund, that money's gone.
This is roughly what happened, except not in a single operation, and not in a single day.
As usual, the riskier the operation, the tighter the timing. And then if anything fails it creates a cascade event. You play the russian roulette long enough you lose. Just make sure you were aiming the gun at someone else by the time you press the trigger.

As someone who has worked and lived in asia before, almost all western media reporting about asia is insanely inaccurate at the very least and completely made up at worst. Any commercialized media is geared purely torwards engagement and therefore at least 90% BS. For example the social credit system in china is made up. It doesn't exist, yet you would believe it to be omnipresent over there, if you go by YT.
You don't even have to lie outright, you can just misrepresent numbers a little and voila, you have a super dystopian story on your hand. Edit it with some dramatic music and footage and you have westeners circlejerking over their own superiority. The perfect recipe for maximum engagement: just a sprinkle of ignorance, some super overblown drama and a touch of tribalism.
You actually want to learn about those countries? Go there, talk to the people or befriend people from there. YT or any commercialized media for that matter won't ever give you even close to an accurate view.

There is more pressure on the men at the bottom of the socio economic ladder, but for many of those men on the southern borders, they may have the chance to get a wife who is even lower, economically, from a poorer country like Myanmar or Cambodia.
