Not an emergency, but conditions are tight on the grid due to equipment failure.

2 power outages with no explanation today & a few days ago in Northern CO.

My car's outside thermometer read "108" Tuesday so...yeah.

We have got to get over our NIMBYism and start supporting more transmission and generation projects here in Maine.
DaNostrich@reddit
The real feel temp in my area of Maine hit 106 today, was definitely a hot one
MissHolloway@reddit
Hey neighbor, hope you’re keeping cool today
DaNostrich@reddit
Today is much easier then yesterday! Well wishes to you and yours

Y’all are so nice. I wish every interaction on the internet was this pleasant.

I was expecting to lose power but all we had is a flicker, thank goodness. It's a good reminder that our infrastructure is old as shit and we need to be a little more full-throated in supporting investment, upgrades, clean energy etc.
Barflyondabeach@reddit
Boston hit 101° yesterday, and that's not counting the heat index
Carleton_Willard@reddit
Extreme heat like this really reminds us how outdated our energy infrastructure is. We need a more reliable, diversified power supply and major upgrades to our transmission system. Maine has been standing in the way of both, this isn’t just on the utilities.

Should probably deprioritize some AI machines then...

In California we just do the rolling blackout thing. IE, this neighborhood will be without power from 10am to 2pm, and this neighborhood over here gets theirs cut 3pm to 9pm.
Funny enough, it's always only the Mexican neighborhoods
Unique-Sock3366@reddit
I’m in North Carolina. Super hot here, too, although not as horrible as it is for our neighbors to the north.
One of our air handlers at my hospital failed six months before its maintenance was due.
Half of our patients’ rooms were 78 degrees and couldn’t be used today. 😳
arbyyyyh@reddit
I’m curious what actually happened but can’t find anything about it.
twstedturbo@reddit
You should look up first generation causes these new AI and data centers are getting. It's only going to get worse, power will go to them first and shut your ass off if demand deems to have power go to those centers first
arbyyyyh@reddit
It’s actually worse than that. With how wildly the AI workload can sway back and forth, it can be pulling down a few MW and then all of a sudden, it’s not. This results in the potential for voltage/frequency sag which ranges from not great to very bad for just about everything in your house. Best case scenario, your fridge gets a few years off its lifespan.

Hell yeah!!! Build more AI conplexes!!
