What are your thoughts on the new ‘weight loss jabs’?

I think the context they're used is important. If people are just using them to get from a BMI of 28 to 20-25 then yeah. It's a lifestyle thing, sort yourself out. People who have managed to get their BMIs to 40 +: there's something going on there. They have something pathological going on with their relationship with food. They are also at massively significant risk of other health complications (which will cost the NHS loads). >The problem is that they don’t learn anything about maintaining the weight once the jabs end. Sure long term behavioural changes are better, but pragmatically that's hard and lots of these people *know* what they *need* to do. If it was that easy for them, they would have not got to the point they're at. I've honestly come round to believe that it's a disease, and it needs treating as such. There's a lot of moralising and judgement around it. That doesn't help. People wouldn't call someone with Downs syndrome stupid. They wouldn't take the piss out of someone with Alzheimer’s for forgetting stuff. It'd be frowned upon watching someone in a wheelchair be stuck at the bottom of some stairs. Insinuating people with morbid obesity are just there because they're not trying hard enough is not going to change or help anything. It probably just makes it worse, as it's all tied up with self esteem issues for a lot of people. Deceleration of interest: not on the jabs, am losing weight the old fashioned way via abject misery, BMI currently around 26. (also yes I know BMI was weakness as a measurement. Point still stands. I'm not talking about muscled up rugby forwards here.)
