That’s got my (admittedly twisted) mind thinking about all the horrific ways you could murder people with technology in the future. I mean things like transporting out someone’s kidneys or put them in some sort of field that’d put them out of phase… which in theory would also put them out of phase with the air in the room and then they’d just choke to death or beam a poison inside them or even just an air bubble … actually the transporters would be horrifically dangerous murder weapons.
I had high hopes we would have got that with Picard, something smaller scale where he’s retired but obviously previous admiral doing investigative work independently into the starfleet in some way. Maybe tie it to his with corruption in Starfleet

That would be a great avenue for stories, given how much Trek likes court/tribunal episodes
kinglance3@reddit
That’s a whole new level of nightmare.
No-Explanation-220@reddit
He did go deep undercover on DS9. Infiltration of some interplanetary gangsters.
Mutabilitie@reddit
I don’t even remember that but it seems like something that would happen on DS9 lol
HisDivineOrder@reddit
The best part is how he keeps clones that he transports into space on a regular basis to vent.
justkickingthat@reddit
Alternatively, he's a serial killer who materializes clones to torture and kill. He was never satisfied by the holodeck simulations

Or you could tinker with their code and materialize them incomplete or changed in some nasty way.

Imagine the power… I’d totally abuse one if I had one!

Let's name the detective Dixon Hill and have it set on a holodeck.

"Would a third Will Riker be a problem or funny? I don't really have any triplet jokes... but l have quadruplet jokes!"
EfficientHeat4901@reddit
Well comedy does canonically run in threes so the joke itself would be that there's three of them.
Reasonable_Gift7525@reddit
Damn that is super dark actually
