Here’s Riker and his dad playing Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots. Er… I mean Anbo Jyustu.

i'd just like to point out american gladiator was on like just before tng back then, like sundays at 7 back in the day right?
ThePizzaNoid@reddit
I have only vague recollections of watching American Gladiators but ya they were definitely both airing at the time.
Apprehensive_Rain880@reddit
its just funny cause i remember a event where contestents would stand on pedastals in impact armor and fight with pretty much the same pugil sticks, it was like a budget version of double dare with no slime but tons of steroids and coke in the cast dressing rooms
ThePizzaNoid@reddit
Ya I remember that too. I like how the Japanese did a vaguely similar kinda thing in Takashis Castle and just amped up the goofiness and then it got Americanized years later into the way goofier and amazing MXC.

That would have depended on your market. Both shows were syndicated, so they aired whenever the local station that bought it wanted to air them but yeah Sat/Sun early evening was common for both.

Here’s the soundtrack that was missing: https://m.soundcloud.com/music-man-938714898/star-trek-kirk-vs-spock-battle-soudtrack-full-download

dude this is litterally one of the few things i hate about sci-fi made up games sports and martial arts with exception to chess and futurama's slurmball
ThePizzaNoid@reddit
I think it's Blurnsball. Slurm is the extreme energy drink that comes out of a giant slug alien queen monster.

the double handed overhead neck basher?
Arborebrius@reddit
It took until the 24th century but eventually we managed to invent putting fancy blindfolds on two guys and having them randomly swing sticks at each other
SweaterUndulations@reddit
Two angry raccoons in those inflatable sumo wrestler suits.

'Gladiators - are you READYYYYYYY???"
JacobDCRoss@reddit
You want to know what's wild about this episode? That shiverish their spouting at each other is actually japanese. I didn't catch that until my second watch through. I speak Japanese and couldn't understand what they were saying
Lilasfantasy@reddit
It's still gibberish. IIRC, Anbo Jyutsu is a made up term for the show.
JacobDCRoss@reddit
No, I mean the language that they're speaking to each other when they challenge each other. It's japanese, but they're like overly stressing every syllable in a very odd manner
bela_okmyx@reddit
I think you mean "gibberish".
Unless it was really cold in the studio when they were filming.
JacobDCRoss@reddit
That was talk to text. Apparently we Native oregonians are incomprehensible to Google
PicardsTeabag@reddit
It’s ILLEGAL!
