Say a quick prayer & duck... It's scary actually as the UK apparently doesn't have sufficient countermeasures for the latest Russian nukes.  One such ICBM carries a payload of a few warheads which guide to their targets independently.  Basically one rocket could take out a few cities in the Midlands for e.g. in the blink of any eye.  From launch one could reach UK in twenty minutes approx.  The only defence we have is Russia would know full well this would trigger a very swift reciprocal response from other NATO countries and maybe trigger the Doomsday domino effect.

> It's scary actually as the UK apparently doesn't have sufficient countermeasures for the latest Russian nukes. There are, essentially, no large scale counter measures for ICBMs and never have been. Every country in the world is essentially entirely vulnerable to them.

Low-Captain1721@reddit

ICBM countermeasures do exist however they are unreliable especially against a large scale attack

Yes, that's a way to reword exactly what I wrote!

Which are completely useless against latest Russian ICBMs.....

I'm not quite with you? My point is that at no point in time has any country, including the US and Russia, had any real defence against nuclear missiles. I'm agreeing with you, except to say, it's not a UK thing and it's not a new thing
View on Reddit #59743327

Low-Captain1721@reddit

I didn't mean to imply that it was either a new or UK thing, merely examples.... More recent Russian developments merely highlight general inadequacies.  Stop going on or I'll have words with Putin and request he launches an ICBM in your general direction (don't count on countermeasures however..) 😂😂

If we all combined our efforts to obliterate North America I bet it could be great.
View on Reddit #59739812

Not sure what the Canadians or Mexicans have done to deserve this. But I also suspect that the US could fend off/retaliate against the rest of all the world’s nuclear powers together.

No, you really can't do anything. Thermo nuclear weapons are extremely powerful. But the good news is they're literally irrelevant , because of mutually assured destruction! Firing a nuclear weapon is suicide to the nation that fired it!

According to leaflets sent to every home in late 70’s, maybe early 80’s, when you get the four minute warning you get under the kitchen table and you’ll be fine.

There's no upside to a nuclear exchange. There's no small nuclear war either. A nuclear weapon detonated in the upper atmosphere would destroy almost all electrical infrasturture and send us back to the stone age. I wouldn't worry about what the government would do, they wouldn't exist in any meaningful format after a strike.
View on Reddit #59739234

Flat_Development6659@reddit

An EMP doesn't destroy all electrical equipment and one caused by a nuke doesn't even cover a very large area, it wouldn't send us back to the Stone Age.

You have two main options. Vaporise in the blast or slowly die of radiation poisoning during the subsequent nuclear winter. If you're far enough away from any blasts, and you habe several months of supplies in your house and don't ever open doors or windows then you might have a chance, but I wouldn't count on it.
View on Reddit #59739737

GrizCuz@reddit

Having been exposed to Threads at school. I'm trying to get as close to where one's getting detonated as possible. I've no interest in surviving, probable radiation sickness, struggling to find food and water, the constant threat of violence from other survivors. None of that sounds like something I'd want to survive just for existence's sake. Ideally, I'd want to become a fine mist in milliseconds!

There is no what would you do. You’d either die on impact or you’d die a slower death. Failing that, you’ll eventually die from the lack of food, water and shelter. People don’t understand how devastating a nuclear bomb would be. It would be the end of life as we knew it and send us back to the stone ages.

>What would you do ? Well... die? In your scenario of "nukes start flying" - sure you might be one of the unlucky who survives the first round of a nuclear to what end? Our modern economy and food production cannot be switched off and given what we have modelled about Nuclear Winter, you would be starving quite soon. I'm close enough to a target of strategic importance that I have nothing to worry about - I'll be turned into glass in the first wave.
