You can add a sequential manual transmission and AWD as standard from factory to any car with no extra cost. What car would you pick?

Engine aspiration doesn't matter. N/A, Turbo, Supercharged, don't give a hoot.
For me, it's a toss up between one of three vehicles.
-
New Edge Terminator Mustang.
-
5th Gen Honda Prelude.
-
3rd Gen Mitsubishi Eclipse.
EloeOmoe@reddit
Why would I want a sequential manual in anything?
strmshdow84@reddit
I think they mean a dct/pdk because no one would want a sequential on a street driven car.
myCarAccount--@reddit
I don't think that is what they meant at all
strmshdow84@reddit
I mean, you could be right. Reading the replies it seems like other do think that, but I personally don't see why anyone would want one that's not going into vehicle that's going to spend a lot of time on track. From comments listed, they don't make much since in a street car, unless you're a glutton for punishment and really like to do trans rebuilds.
myCarAccount--@reddit
Yeah IDK, seems like a bad idea for sure
Robots_Never_Die@reddit
I want a sequential for my manual C7. If only it wasn't $30k.
Theres nothing about them that makes it a bad trans for the street.
strmshdow84@reddit
A sequential is horrible for a street car. Basically no one runs a sequential on the street. It's mostly a track transmission.
Robots_Never_Die@reddit
What makes it horrible for a street car?
Jules040400@reddit
Straight-cut gears that aren't helical, and no syncromesh. Loud, clunky, and only useable when absolutely full throttle
Fuck they are cool though
arcticrobot@reddit
You have to operate it at optimal rev ranges, hard in day to day traffic.
Motorcycles though pretty much all are equipped with sequential
Larcya@reddit
Motorcycle clutchs are also almost always wet so it's not too much of a problem.
That and the motorcycles with big inline 4's can just sit in first gear in normal traffic so you don't even have to shift ever.
1st gear on Super bikes go into the 60-70 MPH range. and even higher depending on the gearing.
LeanGroundQueef@reddit
They're not smooth if you're just puttering around.
strmshdow84@reddit
If we speak about real sequential gearbox, and not dct of some sort. Mainly because they are straight cut gears, meaning noisy gearbox, relative short lifespan, and still needing the use of clutch for common use ... and don't even ask about the price...
narwhal_breeder@reddit
Quaif offers helical cut boxes now - still have a short lifespan- but a hell of a lot quieter.
NappyFlickz@reddit (OP)
Nope, fully meant manual clutch, sequentially shifted transmission w/typical synchros.

I wouldn't. I don't like how AWD drives.
ThetaGrim@reddit
CTR. Maybe a Z06.
Op3rat0rr@reddit
I would have gotten the Type R if it was AWD. Got nasty winters in the Midwest
Acceptable_Gur6193@reddit
I don’t have bad winters (nyc) but I prefer awd to fwd so I got the gr Corolla over the type r it is ridiculously fun in the snow
Op3rat0rr@reddit
GR Corolla is on my short list for the next car. I'm highly considering a dual clutch in the Golf R this time around though
GesturalAbstraction@reddit
What were they thinking making the CTR front wheel drive. I mean I get it heritage whatever but come on this is real life…
The_Strom784@reddit
They should have made the Integra Type S with SH-AWD. That would have been enough to set it apart from the CTR while also providing a good option.
ICantDecideIt@reddit
You’re spot on.
djseto@reddit
Have you driven one on track? They are absolute monsters for FWD and can hang with many other cars including RWD and AWD.
GesturalAbstraction@reddit
Let me lead by disclosing that I have a ton of respect for the Civic Type R—it’s the best front-wheel-drive performance car ever made. But it’s still FWD, which means it’s inherently limited compared to RWD or AWD
You get torque steer, traction issues under heavy acceleration, and limited corner exit grip because the front tires are already maxed out handling direction changes. No matter how good the diff or chassis is, you can’t change the physics. This will always be the case when you put 100% responsibility for turning AND powering the car on the same wheels.
That doesn’t mean it’s not great—it just an unfortunate handicap. And it didn’t need to be this way, Honda has made excellent RWD cars in the past.
Look I know it sells well, and I know a different platform would make it more expensive. I’m just saying… RWD or AWD would make it more worth those 10-20k markups.
djseto@reddit
Not disagreeing but I think a hot hatch by definition is rooted in FWD, with VW taking it a step further with AWD in the Golf R and before it the R32. I track mine at VIR and when the track isn't straight, I am on the ass of a lot of similar or higher HP cars. With the right brake pads, fluids, and 200TW tires, it's very capable for a FWD car for sure. Before my FL5, I've tracked a Porsche 718 GTS and a 93 RX7. I enjoy that track with FWD as there are things I can do with FWD that I can't do with RWD in certain corners. Now, in a straight line starting from low speeds or top and getting on power and spinning does suck compared to RWD, but I can go close to WOT in most corners and while my wheels will slip a little, the diff helps put down a lot of power to maintain the line I want with minimal corrections. If I did that in RWD in some turns, it's oversteer city.
This is supposedly the last generation of internal combustion engine Type R so the next is going to likely be hybrid and I think that layout could bring AWD as a possibility. I however don't want anything but a manul. Sure modern dual clutches are faster but I find them less engaging in the overall drive experience.
GesturalAbstraction@reddit
I can appreciate that, noting that it seems today, increasingly, celebrated and performance leading hot hatches are AWD — focus rs, focus rx, golf r, GR Yaris (WRC pick), GRC honorable mention despite known issues, etc.
djseto@reddit
and the irony is that none of them has beaten a Type R in any head-to-head competition I've seen on a road course. I think Honda is taking a less is more approach. The new Prelude is goign to be AWD so maybe that will be a preview of a AWD platform...
GesturalAbstraction@reddit
I gotta give you that one
Raenald@reddit
On paper yes, but once you drive one you forget about all that stuff
BTTWchungus@reddit
The heritage argument became bullshit after they turbocharged the Type R and lost the n/a VTEC spirit
WendysChiliAndPepsi@reddit
Honda died after they lost the high revving NA motors.
BTTWchungus@reddit
Between turbocharging and McPherson's struts, they've been dead for a while to me.
djseto@reddit
The magic they made in the front, even for something that is based on McPherson but has that dual axis is very impressive. Between that and the front diff I get next to no torque steer on track.
BTTWchungus@reddit
The Type R suspension would've been nice to have standard on all their cars
the4ner@reddit
The upcoming prelude is supposed to have it
djseto@reddit
Sure, but what makes the Type R special is how well it handles.
Nerd-Vol@reddit
Seems to be selling well as is.
djseto@reddit
And holding value well. Carvana offered me $44,600 for my FL5 with 10k miles. I paid 45,800 1.5 years ago. Good luck finding any other car in that price and performance range that can hold value like that. And no, I didn’t sell. Had no intention. Just wanted to see what the market said it’s worth for fun.
the4ner@reddit
I can still get 39k for my '21 FA5. Has me considering a trade to an m3 or ct4-v
Bassracerx@reddit
If they made the type r awd it would increase the price of every other civic because the partitioned space for the awd bits would have to be envery civic chasis.
withsexyresults@reddit
To keep it light spacious and cheap
BlazingFury009@reddit
2.0t accord, preferably the 2020 touring trim
Iirc it only comes in manual with the sport trim so having sequential on the touring would be really nice and also having awd would be a nice upgrade to the fwd, since Honda seems to usually reserve awd for Acura

Ti290@reddit
Came here to say this. I loved my Fiesta ST, and it was so much fun once I modded it to over 300hp, but it would have been so much better if it could have maintained traction below 60mph with awd.
thisisjustascreename@reddit
Think the Focus ST would benefit more.
Big-Soup74@reddit
Isn’t that just the focus rs
WillSuckDick4Coffee@reddit
With a whole lot less power yup. That's why I went for the Fiesta.

HankSteakfist@reddit
The last model M240i did come with a manual and it also had the option for AWD on the XDrive models, but they never made a manual AWD version.
Could have essentially had a modern Skyline GTR if they did.
CyberneticMidnight@reddit
Yeah I'm more of a BMW guy and the xdrive is pretty dope esp because some tuning options allow you to turn it off/on. The sequential would be awesome tho. I know the infiniti that the Nissan shares engines with can also have awd

BinaryStrigoi@reddit
SLR. It will change the ethos of the car but I think it will be an upgrade from the 5 speed slushbox. It's like a front engine Murci with supercharged V8 that's more comfortable.
2for1garlicknots@reddit
That would be amazing! I felt like that car had the potential to be so much better than it turned out.
einTier@reddit
Mercedes thought they were building a better SL, McLaren thought they were building a hypercar. The more time you spend with one, the more confused the whole design language is.
For instance, a lot of the car is carbon fiber, but you wouldn’t know because Mercedes demanded all of it be painted. There’s a little bit of carbon fiber you can see on the shells of the seats (offered in custom fit sizes!) but that’s about it.
Przedrzag@reddit
Imo the SLR design language turned out great in the end. The supercharged V8 and long bonnet kind of make it like a Dodge Viper in an Armani suit (and coincidentally both cars were made by the same company for a while).
If the SLR was to be a true hypercar, I would’ve liked it with a turbo M120 like the Chrysler ME-412 was to have.

I think they have awful driver crash test ratings you crash you die but it looks so perfectly JDM lol
