The Xennials survival manual: we actually believed- and still practice…. What’s yours?

My Mom always said, "If you want to lose wait, don't eat after 6pm. Mrs. Murphy does that and she's thin as a rake!" That and, "little and often" - I was a bit of a fat dude in school. The odd thing is, it's not completely incorrect. What Mrs. Murphy (if indeed she actually was doing this) was doing was intermittent fasting. And despite it's title, it just really means taking in your daily calories in a specified window of the day, i.e. between 8am-8pm for 12 hour windows, suitably modified for lower windows. When I was mad on working out, I did a couple of competitions, and really took to the workouts hard. I had an 8 hour window that I religiously stuck to, between 9am and 5pm, interspersed with meals throughout the day, i.e. little and often. Of course, people at work said I was always eating and always looked healthy, how do I do it. My first workout of the day was 6am-7:30am, my second was 6:30pm-8:30pm. That was my Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. Wednesday was my midweek off day, I would just ensure to do a good amount of cycling or walking outside that day and stick to high-protein meals. Saturday and Sunday were my random days, caution to the wind, and something nice for dinner, like pizza, pasta, whatever. Gotta actually eat something nice, can't live on hummus and carrot sticks forever. FWIW, I followed paleo diet more or less. The thing is, the old wives' tale of "don't eat after 6pm" is absolutely completely palatable to the older generation. If you call it what it is, intermittent fasting, suddenly all hell breaks loose and you get lectures on what happens if you don't eat and you're wasting away, and children in Africa, and yada yada. The practise is the same, just changed the title. The older generation sure were the best at selective hearing.
