About $110 US in 1999, which means Metallica’s concert ticket prices are outpacing inflation 2:1 😂
It was an amazing show and predated social media or us caring anything about life beside having a good time.

I was front row at this show. God damn what a memory.

It was an amazing night!

OMG, the Pontiac Silverdome. Watched many Detroit Lions losses there.
johnnyhammerstixx@reddit
I saw them the next day, without Sweaty Teddy though.
Great show!!!

Not sure you could find a more repulsive pair of openers in retrospect.
OG_Cryptkeeper@reddit (OP)
At the time, it was cool. Regardless of what Reddit says.
Expert_Stuff7224@reddit
Believe me, Kid Rock was a douchebag before his politics came out and Ted Nugent was already a racist loon in 1999. I sure as fuck didn’t think they were cool and I was 20 in ‘99

“Trust me, bro” isn’t really a solid point
Expert_Stuff7224@reddit
You want me to actually find evidence of them being jag offs or do you have google?

The Pontiac Silverdome is now a giant Amazon distribution center. The Palace is gone now, too.
xt0rt@reddit
This might be the saddest thing I've read today. Not that I've ever been there or even live in the state, just the fact that it's now an amz distro center.
cheffartsonurfood@reddit
My brother Jaime was there. He won tickets off the radio.
OG_Cryptkeeper@reddit (OP)
My tickets came from ICQ. The old chat program. Got them COD in the US mail. How much more Xennial does it get?
pick_up_a_brick@reddit
I stood in line at some stand-alone record shop that had a Ticketmaster inside of it to get mine.
OG_Cryptkeeper@reddit (OP)
That’s up there too. lol

1866840!

103.9 The Bear in Indiana gave away a whole bunch of stuff around then. My brother won those tickets. The next week my other brother won $100 and the week after I won tickets to see RATM down in New Orleans. They paid for hotel, airfare, concert tickets and gave me $100 for meals. I remember it all started with that Metallica show though. Good times.

nice

Red Nugent and Kid Rock? Is this where you got herpes?
Last-Salamander-920@reddit
I remember precisely where I was that night. In an abandoned grocery store on E 7 Mile at a techno party. Thanks for taking me back, also sounds like your show at teh Silverdome was alsom awesome!

I saw this tour a few weeks later in Milwaukee, and I remember Kid Rock still had the diminutive rapper Joe-C with him.
OG_Cryptkeeper@reddit (OP)
Joe C came out for our show as well. Along with blowup Jim Beam bottles and pole dancers.
One-Earth9294@reddit
Now this is your headliners at CPAC.
Battarray@reddit
If Metallica ever fucking goes MAGA, I'm going to blowtorch my tribute tattoo.

Bunch of assholes...
mlaginess@reddit
I was there! What a show!
OG_Cryptkeeper@reddit (OP)
It was amazing.
blimpcitybbq@reddit
I was there and still have the t shirt. We got there right when the doors opened because we had GA floor seats. We got super lucky and got in the snake pit.
OG_Cryptkeeper@reddit (OP)
I had the Pushead shirt with the skull wearing the party hat.
I was telling my friends about this show the other day. I mentioned that nobody cared when Sevendust opened but I was a huge fan. It felt weird to see them playing with all the house lights on and not much love.
ReverendHambone@reddit
Man, I love Sevendust. And they just got heavier and heavier.
blimpcitybbq@reddit
I caught one of the drumsticks they threw after their set. Gave it to the guy next to me.
Winwookiee@reddit
It was sad to see the silverdome deteriorate to the point it did before they demolished it. I caught a couple Lions games there (go Barry!) but never saw a concert there. We always ended up at Pine Knob for concerts.
dufflebag7@reddit
It’s rare to find that many assholes in one place. Pure concentrated asshole.
Nach0Maker@reddit
And you're only talking about Lars!
OG_Cryptkeeper@reddit (OP)
You okay? Who hurt you?
dufflebag7@reddit
Ted Nugent
Kid Rock
OG_Cryptkeeper@reddit (OP)
17 year old me didn’t know any of this and enjoyed the show.
NachoNachoDan@reddit
It’s ok to enjoy the show AND acknowledge that Ted Nugent is a Pedo
NachoNachoDan@reddit
Ted Nugent is a pedo
pick_up_a_brick@reddit
Hell yeah! I was there! Metallica played about every song you’d ever want them to. Got there just as Sevendust was wrapping up. I remember them playing Walk by Pantera. Show was lit. Even Ted put on a great show. This was before we all knew how fucking crazy he was.
face-puncher@reddit
I was at their show the next day in Cleveland, OH. They played with Kid Rock and Sevendust. The PA system was shit and failed a number of times in both opening sets.
OG_Cryptkeeper@reddit (OP)
Sevendust opened our show as well.
limelight022@reddit
I used to live close to Pontiac silver dome!!
And it 1999, I'm guessing that's the cunning stunts tour? I saw them around the same time in Nashville.
OG_Cryptkeeper@reddit (OP)
It was actually its own little mini tour. I think it was the M2K tour.
assorted_nonsense@reddit
Didn't even wanna see that back then...
OG_Cryptkeeper@reddit (OP)
Well, I did.
Throw-away17465@reddit
Wow Ted Nugent really helped to keep those prices low
OG_Cryptkeeper@reddit (OP)
Not knowing his politics and watching him ride out on a live buffalo was excellent. I often miss being ignorant to others’ political views.
