Is it selfish to dread the school holidays?

Feelings aren’t wrong. As long as you’re not actually *doing* anything to negatively affect people, I have a hard time calling you selfish for your feelings. One of the things most of us start to gain in our mid-teens and continue to develop with age is an increased awareness that everyone else is a person just like ourselves, experiencing all the same feelings and wants and irritations. You hear it called *sonder* sometimes, and it’s a form of empathy. It can be uncomfortable at first, and it’s quite common to feel selfish and guilty and even ashamed about our impatience with others, even while feeling annoyed by them - our recognizance of others as individuals who are deserving of all the same things we want wars with our personal wants, and some of us (like me) find it hard to strike a balance, though most of us find it comes easier as time passes. Though some people find it so uncomfortable that they shove those feelings of empathy for others away and never develop them, and those are usually people who can be quite unpleasant to interact with. In any case, feelings are not actions - they’re private and personal, and they don’t harm anyone, except perhaps the person feeling them. Don’t be too hard on yourself for them.
