What do sober people do in DFW?

Hey yall, I'm a 27M, getting out of the partying/drugs/drinking lifestyle and I'm looking for ways to meet new people around town. What the hell do sober people do? Was thinking about joining some pickleball league but I've only played once. Any other popular outdoor hobbies that are beginner-friendly? Anything music/art related I'd also love to check out
I live in the Village btw. Thanks for any help yall can give 🤝

Some things right around the village would be pickleball and the golf simulators.
If you're into running then 214 run club always has something going on.

what the hell is a golf simulator

Look up the Phoenix. It’s a sober activities group. They don’t talk about recovery, just sober people doing fun stuff. It free and have a variety of activities. Also try rock climbing. We have tons of great gyms in dfw and it’s crazy fun!

thank you

There are so many nice trails, i think people should try electric scooting or electric longboarding.
Fit_Ad4408@reddit
Lots of golf here but that’s not particularly beginner friendly.

I jump out of airplanes north of Dallas. It’s more expensive than drugs but the people in the community are great!

I’m 29 and sober. Live close to the village. I run, go to that LA fitness nearby, cook, having a poker night on Thursday with some friends, went to the pool with friends yesterday, play in an indoor soccer league
reddit_still_psyop@reddit (OP)

SoberPancake21@reddit
The one I’m in is at soccer spectrum in Richardson. Only thing is that games are on Sunday, and sometimes as late as 10:15 pm. I’ve probably seen you at the gym then. I’m usually there 3:30-4ish on weekdays
reddit_still_psyop@reddit (OP)
what in the sam hill 10:15??
im always at the la fitness 8-9 at night so i can actually use the squat rack. if u ever see a dude wearing blue shorts and a white undershirt say hi lol.

Become the DD. Those 2 AM taco bell runs are fun as hell if you are sober and driving. When I pledged a fraternity this was one of my core memories.
Sporkler@reddit
If OP struggles with addiction, this is not good advice at all.
If they just happen to not drink, then maybe.
erk_fwd@reddit
I play tabletop RPGs at various public spots around town, Tabletop games like RPGs and board games are great ways to meet people while playing a game.
reddit_still_psyop@reddit (OP)
where at? im a big chess nerd, not super into tabletops rn but i like the social aspect of it
erk_fwd@reddit
Happy to connect you with any of the below spots if you're interested. Closest spots to you would be:
Dubs Tea n Eats in Plano: they have board game nights Thursdays and Fridays with one weekend a month being their Bash weekend where they're board gaming each night
Brickhouse Games: I've been running games here for several years, I don't think they have much of a board game crowd though. Lots of TCG action, mainly magic oriented.
In Dallas itself there's also Common Ground Games which has a pretty robust board game and RPG scene. They have games most days of the week, and they organize through a facebook group and a discord.
I mainly list my games on a site called Heylo through a group called Forward RPG, we've got events coming up in Frisco at the Frisco Discovery Center in July and in Arlington at the Bob Duncan Convention Center in August. Here's the event pages for those if you're interested:

thanks! ill check these out

I know Dubs Tea n Eats has a big Mah Jong community, I'm not sure where the chess folks in DFW congregate. Let me ask around and I'll see if I can find any communities that are chess focused.

Come join the curling league!!! Some of us drink, but many don't!.

soggyballsack@reddit
We hang out with others that drink for a night out. Movies also. Art Theaters, scooter ride downtown.
llonelygoth@reddit
Scooter ride sounds fucking awesome how do I get into that
soggyballsack@reddit
Go to bars, hangouts and meet people. Drink soda, they'll think your drinking some kind of dark beer. Then when they ask what your drinking (if they're buying a round) just let them know your drinking soda. But you have to be social.
Jegator2@reddit
Knowing people newly sober, I think they are not yet ready to go where everyone is drinking(?)
DefiantArtist8@reddit

Go to AA meetings
Csharp27@reddit
I always think about the South Park episode when Stan’s Dad becomes an alcoholic and goes to AA meetings and that guy talks about how he used to have fun and now AA’s the funnest thing he does, and it’s so true it’s like the third or fourth reason I stopped going to AA and went to rehab. 2 yrs clean and have normal fun just minus the drinking.
2manyfelines@reddit
I went to rehab, but stayed in AA another 27 years before escaping. Still sober at 36 years now.

This is something most people don’t think about when they quit drinking - getting sober requires an entire life style change. Putting down the bottle is only part of a sober life.
reddit_still_psyop@reddit (OP)
i realize that, which is why Im asking for help here
OhManisityou@reddit
Glad you realize it. Good for you trying to fix it. You have to fill all that drinking time with something. I dove into family and work.

My fiancé (28M) is very active and most of his social activities revolve around nature or fitness. He does BJJ every morning and loves it! He also plays volleyball with friends on Friday evenings (I think at DFW Sports Garden)
