What are you guys doing about money?
Posted by Budget_Offer9518@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 30 comments
For context 26 living around London recently fired looking for work. I cannot seem to find any legitimate way to make money bar getting a job which is also proving hopeless. How have you guys been getting by with price increases, low salaries and a general consensus that the uk is sinking deeper toward the bottom of the bin.

Buy small cheap automatic petrol cars from further north take them to London and sell. Guaranteed profit.
Budget_Offer9518@reddit (OP)
I like the way you think!
web3monk@reddit
Yeah me and my mate used to do this when he lived in Hammersmith, I'd find him from 1 to 5 cars and make sure they were all MOTd and get any little jobs done outside london cheaper, bring them down in the week and we never had one last more than 7 days for sale there.
Bitter-Crazy4119@reddit
I have a friend who does this with high end but used furniture. It’s been very profitable for him.
web3monk@reddit
Yeah I mean to a degree you can do it with anything because everything goes for more in London and there's more of a market to buy it than anywhere else.
Bitter-Crazy4119@reddit
London is tough even with a job so I feel for you. Have you applied for any benefits in the meantime? A UC claim would be my first port of call
cloche_du_fromage@reddit
Getting a job is sadly the traditional way of earning money...
Budget_Offer9518@reddit (OP)
Very aware very committed to the grind of applying for at least 50 a day very broke still
Zennyzenny81@reddit
You can't possibly be doing quality applications at that rate. They'll be going straight in the bin.
Anxious-Molasses9456@reddit
dont live in London unless you have a good enough job to sustain it
red_black_red0@reddit
Er...... wat?
Oh, it's another Russian troll, please fuck off.
Budget_Offer9518@reddit (OP)
Russian troll? No I just live here place is a shithole my guy
non-hyphenated_@reddit
My slice of England is great. I appreciate your lived experience is different from mine so I don't think there's a consensus that it's going down the bin. In your shoes, if you can, get out of London. It's a shit place to be with no money.

Everyone's situation is different. Your situation makes it feel shit, but it doesn't mean it's shit for everyone.
This doesn't make it a shit hole.

Fair play I’ve only ever lived in the shitholes areas of the uk, visited the nice ones and I’m very jealous easy to forget they don’t exist
Anxious-Molasses9456@reddit
living in London without having a job first is a pretty bad decision

I’m a bit younger than you and I’ve basically got to move out of London because it’s just too expensive for me now. Cannot go through my twenties scraping by, suffering financially in one of the most expensive cities in the world.
Budget_Offer9518@reddit (OP)
I’ve been on 23p ramen noodles for weeks now
Glad-Business-5896@reddit
I'm not earning that much more than I was last year and yet I seem to have an extra £150/200 left over at the end of the month before I paid. I haven't noticed food prices increasing much, my wifi has gone up £7, my car insurance went down by £220 (annually), Council tax went up by £10 and my phone contract went up by £10 too.
I recently quit nicotine which I think must be accounting for some of the extra money left over every month.
For me, things are less expensive.

a quick look on Indeed shows
bar staff jobs in london 600+ jobs
Budget_Offer9518@reddit (OP)
You would cry at the amount of rejections I’ve got from that 600

Moved to Dorset. I pay £1000pcm for a 4 bed house. Work 3 days a week, spend the other 4 days at the beach.
Never looked back.
