Repossession from location other than where car was left?

Long story short, I know someone whose car was repossessed from a location about an hour from where they live. They parked their car in their driveway at home, and the next night they noticed it was missing. There was no record of a repossession that the PPD had, so they reported it stolen. Come to find out it was in fact repossessed, but from an address an hour away. She has no idea how it ended up at this address, and noticed her gas tank was much lower than when she left it. Any thoughts?

I witnessed a tow truck driver "steal" a car before hooking it up. Guy pulled up with his tow truck outside my place, walked down the street and came back with a car he then hooked up and towed away. It was a couple hundred yards, not a few miles.

The bank is not really concerned about the location of the car when it is repoed. If it's was purchased with a subprime loan it's highly likely it had a GPS tracker. Are you sure it was actually at that address and it wasn't just bad data entry? Kind of comical if a car thief thought he got away with it only to have it repoed in the middle of the night.

I’m not really sure what you’re asking. Sure, my first thought is your friend needs to pay their bills so their cars don’t get repossessed.

They did, it’s a joint loan and the other party didn’t pay their share. Just an unfortunate situation, but they got it back.

Ouch. That’s why you should rarely, rarely ever cosign for someone else. Doesn’t matter whose name is on the title and loan first, both people are equally as liable. Your friend should push to get their name taken off the loan and the other person refinance under their name. That said, with slow pays in a repossession. Both people’s credit could be pretty trashed right now.

Does the finance company keep a GPS tracker in the car as a condition of the loan?
Its possible it was stolen and repossessed using the GPS tracker or paperwork has been mixed up and the car was in fact repossessed from the correct address.
Towing companies are not often known to have the most morally upstanding people working for them.

I am not sure if that is apart of the loan agreement or not but is a possibility.
I was wondering the same thing, but just seems too coincidental to have been stolen the same day it was repo’ed. Wouldn’t be surprised if there was just a mix up of the address, but again the tank was nearly empty which would make sense given it was an hour away.
