History of high blood pressure. I use unsalted butter for pretty much everything
-Po-Tay-Toes-@reddit
I'm absolutely not a doctor so I might be out of line saying this. But a whole 250g block of salted butter (Morrisons own brand) is only 1.5% salt. So that's 3.75g in the entire block.
Let's say you had 10g on a slice of toast or two you'd be looking at 0.15g of salt. That's about 60mg of sodium. For someone with "normal" blood pressure you're recommended not to go above 2000mg of sodium but you're supposed to have at least 500mg.
I don't know about high blood pressure but I'd presume there's the same lower recommendation just with a lower max amount recommendation.
Granted I don't know, your situation or your diet. But a little salted butter should in theory be fine. Unless my maths is incorrect.
OutAndAbout87@reddit
Butter is better than marg.
Futhamucker1@reddit
I like this answer. I will be having an entire block of butter for breakfast.
-Po-Tay-Toes-@reddit
Enjoy!
Difficult_Tea6136@reddit
It’s more that I’m quite strict about salt in general. I try to reduce it where possible. I’m sure salted butter on the odd piece of toast is fine.
It’s all a function of if I have salted butter in the fridge, I’m more likely to eat it on toast. I’ll dollop more on my potatoes etc Using unsalted butter means I reign in my calories because butter is fucking delicious.
I bake quite a bit as well so I just always have unsalted butter in the fridge and buy it regularly.
-Po-Tay-Toes-@reddit
Yeah that's absolutely fair mate.
I only mentioned it because it's only recently that I've realised how little salt is in butter.
I definitely use too much butter though so your idea is a good one.
AngryGardenGnomes@reddit
Wouldn't you rather go out in style?!
chappersyo@reddit
If I could only have one thing with salt it would be butter, it cut out the cold cuts and jerky and crisps but you can fuck off if you think I’m having unsalted butter.
zipitdirtbag@reddit
Buy one kind of butter (unsalted). Simply add salt when you want it.
xthrowawayaccxx@reddit
I can’t stand salted butter 😂😂😂😂
Significant-Math6799@reddit
I keep forgetting butter comes in a non salted version! I don't eat it anymore (can't...) but I think we only ever had and used salted butter, even in cakes!
EUskeptik@reddit
Some people prefer the distinctly different flavour of unsalted butter.
Unsalted butter isn’t salted butter without the salt. It has a different flavour because, instead of salt, a lactic culture is used as a preservative. It imparts a creamier flavour.
My own preference is for slightly salted butter which combines the flavour of the lactic culture with the flavour of salt, albeit less salt than in salted butter.
Possibly the best known brand of slightly salted butter is Lurpak (though Lurpak is also available as unsalted). My chosen brand is Président from Normandy, France.

Cold rubbery NHS toast with unmelted butter scraped over it is top tier and will always be my breakfast of choice whenever i'm an in-patient.
AutoPanda1096@reddit
I mean, that's how it should be.
This is what toast racks are for. Allows the bread to get cold. And I know what you mean by that rubbery texture.
Then you put on cold butter and it should stay cold.
Perfect.
My kid was in intensive care for a couple of weeks last year and they were bloody brilliant. I know it's trendy to say the UK is collapsing but I saw nothing wrong.
Food was great. Parents got looked after. Someone came round in the morning to take an order.
I was genuinely surprised and impressed given how everyone on these subs pisses on the NHS and broken Britain.
Just goes to show how easily we can be manipulated.
BeanOnAJourney@reddit
Oh I love NHS cuisine, I always look forward to my toast and butter, cheese omelette and cheesy mash, and ham or cheese salads! I always come home trying to recreate them all but it's never quite the same. I'd be dead dozens of times over and in dozens of different ways of it wasn't for the NHS, never any complaints from me.
I hope your child is all better now.
ceciem2100@reddit
They wouldn't toast the bread at the 3 horpital I was in (London) so I got ripped off apparently. So anyway, my toast at home? Well can't beat peanut butter, sliced banana and honey.

Grimdotdotdot@reddit
👀 Does grilling not dry out the beans?
TooLittleGravitas@reddit
Not if you put enough cheese on! In fact it's mostly about getting the grill temperature just right.
myonlinepersonality@reddit
Nah, only grill long enough to melt the cheese. Grind in some pepper and….mwah, chef’s kiss

Eggs fried over chopped bacon so that the bacon pieces set into the whites. First saw it in Amsterdam, where apparently it's known as a Bouncer's/Doorman's breakfast.

If you're grilling it, then you have to add Worcestershire sauce.

Crispy toast left to cool then smothered with a thick layer of spreadable butter. Add loads of marmite, mix it in to a paste with the butter and spread over the entire slice. Absolute perfection.
