Ryzen 7700X hitting 95c during CB23? SE-214-XT Cooler

Put together a brand new system, fresh install, not my first, etc etc
CPU is Ryzen 7700X
Cooler is ID-COOLING SE-214-XT
Bios is Updated and Default
I am running multicore on Cinebench R23 and immediately hitting 95c.
Yes, I get it – it's safe to run it at that.
Yes, I understand it won't be running under full AVX load constantly.
But I know for a fact I installed the cooler correctly as I've installed this cooler hundreds of times.
But temp this seems excessive for a 120mm tower Cooler.
It still runs at all-core clock of 4.9-5.0 ghz
And single of 5.4 GHz — so it's definitely running as advertised. But getting pegged by heat in the process.
n7_trekkie@reddit
yeah, that's expected. that's a small cooler given the load you're running

I get that it's a small cheap cooler but this is the worst result I've ever gotten from it, hottest chips I've cooled with it are R7 5800X and 13th gen Intel i7 and even those didn't get this hot
n7_trekkie@reddit
well it depends on the i7, but the 7700x consumes more power than the 5800x https://tpucdn.com/review/amd-ryzen-7-7700x/images/power-multithread.png

Hmm. I appreciate the link. And after doing some light research it looks like a lot of other people with this specific CPU has asked the same question about it. I have never worked with this chip before.

Maby if you havn't upgraded , trade your 7700x to a 65 watt 7700
skinny_gator@reddit (OP)
Hi, nearly a year old thread but I appreciate the feedback. I've since upgraded to a 360 AIO and it keeps it under 80c under load now. Still hot but better than getting thermal throttled.
n7_trekkie@reddit
like you said, that CPU is meant to run at 95C. nothing to worry about. but it could be cooler/faster/quieter with a larger cooler.
Hiadro@reddit
It's how the CPU is designed, this temp is exactly as expected from a 7700x. Your cooling is fine.
VersaceUpholstery@reddit
You’re telling me that tiny ass cooler kept a 13700k at reasonable temps under full stress test load?
skinny_gator@reddit (OP)
It was sometime last year so I don't remember the exact number but it most definitely wasn't pegged at 95c
Perfect_Memory9876@reddit
id say you hit the mother of silicon lottery then. the se214xt couldnt keep my 12600k from thermal throttling in R23
skinny_gator@reddit (OP)
Hell maybe the chip was defective lol
Perfect_Memory9876@reddit
Ill add that I have mine OC to 5.1 at all times and its also able to get more power if needed. I have it set to 150w if needed and up to 220w if i remember right in stress test it runs on 1.35-1.4V but is very stable. A LOT of testing was done for sure along with a lot of digging on Intel's site about the chip
Perfect_Memory9876@reddit
Id recommend it for the lower wattage CPU like 65w but I agree that once you get to 100w TDP you need a little something more or the case fans are at max with the se214xt
MedicalDefinition190@reddit
how its working? i got the same processor and where i live the only air cooling avaible is this
skinny_gator@reddit (OP)
It's working just fine.
MedicalDefinition190@reddit
u would recommend the water cooling or the xt its good
skinny_gator@reddit (OP)
Water cooling would be better but this cooler is fine
MedicalDefinition190@reddit
same price so i think im going with the water cooling thank u bro
MedicalDefinition190@reddit
that was fast thank u

I'm just waiting for my movie and got the notification lol

I just watched an LTT video where linus, who has literally built thousands of PCs before, forgot to take off the plastic thingy form the coolers contact side.
So just cause you installed it multiple times, it doesnt mean you didnt fuck it up this time.
My other guess is the fans dont spin, the case has no ariflow, or if its an aio, then the pump died.
skinny_gator@reddit (OP)
Plastic is off
It's open test bench
Fans spinning at 100%
Hiadro@reddit
This is how the 7000x series is designed, that temp is expected no matter the cooling. Your cooling is fine.
InsertFloppy11@reddit
Steange, my only other guess is theres not enough paste.
Hiadro@reddit
The 7000x series is designed to push up to TJ Maxx under load no matter the cooling. I have the 7700x myself, and have GREAT cooling, it still pushes up to the max temp.
The only thing that would happen if you didn't have good cooling with that CPU is that it would throttle the performance.
If it freaks you out (it doesn't have to, it sitting at 95c is literally by design, and it's made to sit at 95c indefinitely), or you're th7nking about ambient temps, you can thermal limit in the BIOS.
Effective_Top_3515@reddit
It’s normal operation. It boosts by temp like a gpu. It will hit 95c or max boost, whichever comes first. It’s how the 7000-9000 works now (except the 78x3d or 76x3d where it tjmax is 89c) and it freaks out new users.
