ULPT: How to get back at someone that tried to ransom my lost dog’s location?
Posted by SoberSeahorse@reddit | UnethicalLifeProTips | View on Reddit | 38 comments
So I lost my dog. I’m still looking. I got a text message from some lady saying she found him. She wouldn’t tell me where he was unless I gave her $30. So it was obviously just a scam, she doesn’t have info on my dog, but I’d like to get back at her in some way. I’ve got her phone number. What should I do?

Update: I found my dog!

Now that you've found your dog, message her that you've decided you want that info after all. Tell her you're desperate and will give her twice the amount for a trying useful. String her around, make her go all over. Tell her to meet you at a park or a business, then tell her you've xba fed her mind and aren't comfortable meeting anywhere but a police station. Maybe tell her you want to mast af your fortune teller's place have fun with it, waste her time back. She's clearly real trash human being by her actions, so be karma.

You could even go with all you have is chase if you can get her address so you can drop off te case and get the inforamtion or even her phone number for new cash app cause your mom is going to pay for it. Then you either have their phone number or address go ham craigs list and every other normal horrible thing we tell you do do with those.

I especially love the ending👏🏻😂

So glad! Mine was stolen once, from a front yard tie out. Someone obviously unbuckked her collar, and she never would have left the property willingly without me due to severe separation anxiety (she had to be physically dragged away from me before, and in an attempt to temporarily keep her in a strange apartment for a few hours, she destroyed the bathroom doorway in minutes.) The day after she was taken, she was actually picked up running across a nearby road heading TOWARDS my house. Someone picked her up, and we were able to connect that night through my lost pet alerts. Got her back the next morning.
What I wish I could do to whoever did this... I was actually at a Dr's appointment, and my roommates had put her outside on a cable because she was whining from me not being there. (and we did SO much training, again and again over her life, for the separation anxiety.)

Great news 🐶

very glad to hear that.

YAY - that's awesome!

Offer Venmo, and when she sends it, send her a request for $30 instead of a payment she might approve it and then you get $30.
Dasrule@reddit
This. I’ve interacted with literally 100s of facebook scammers and a few fell for it when I sent a pay request.
Even_Track_621@reddit
I find that hard to believe

My puppies were stolen and returned for the reward just this week! When I called the cops they said because the person on the ring camera grabbing the dogs were not the same person returning them - they could not do anything. (Just to clarify - I saw the ring camera from neighbor of the dogs being taken after everything ended and I had my dogs back, I was trying to get police involved after the fact). People can be such scum

People still frequent Craigslist. Put her number in an m4m thread (the most active to my knowledge) and let it rip.

Gotta ask for asset pics too

Craigslist ads with her number
DufflesBNA@reddit
Did this to a few people. Absolutely diabolical. Put something valuable up on the for free and let it rip.
Put a post about “call before coming to make sure it’s not gone”
I’ve also created a casting call request posting as an adult film producer…..asked for…..unique and unrepresented women to send pictures for consideration to the number. Absolutely hilarious.

Oh I like this one.
Teebers41@reddit
I had a fake email so I could monitor it and kept telling people to just stop over… after a few days somebody got so mad they sent a photo of their gun… decided to pull it down… but man yankee candles makes people crazy
im_no_doctor_lol@reddit
Agree and send her on a wild goose chase that ends with her going to sketchy bar and asking marv the bartender to pay up 🤣

This is my specialty... make a "free appliances" post on Craigslist (in the free stuff section). You're a landlord renovating a small apartment complex and you're giving away washers, dryers, dishwashers, ac units, etc. Make sure to include that you're very busy and work odd hours so they should just keep calling back if you don't answer. Two of these posts will render someone's phone completely unusable.
Also, I'm so sorry about your dog. I hope he turns up.
SoberSeahorse@reddit (OP)
Thank you. And we just found him!
theDouggle@reddit
Where did you find him?
SoberSeahorse@reddit (OP)
Behind some horses a few miles away from where he got out.

Probably reading the 1 million other existing posts about what you can do with someone's phone number.

This is the most helpful comment. Thank you.

Thank you

Ask for a living proof of the dog. Of photo of her with your dog, holding a piece of paper with a safeword of your choosing.
variousnewbie@reddit
They already knew it was a scam, didn't need to verify. They want to punish the scammer.
AdRepresentative784@reddit
I saw an IG the other day where someone wrote a phone number on the wall of a porta toilet and also wrote, "Send me pictures of your poop!" They guy claimed his phone was just full of photos of construction worker prized mud missiles.
SoberSeahorse@reddit (OP)
Nice!
constructiongirl54@reddit
Put up posters in your neighborhood with her phone number listed "for a good time call".
Skeggy-@reddit
Tell them you only have cash. Get their address. Throw some hands.
