How do you know it’s an Enfield No.2 Mk.I? Is it because of what looks like backwards GT marking? I have one too and it says backwards GT and I’m wondering if it’s a No.2 Mk.I model?

It’s the letters EFD superimposed, for Enfield, and I for Mk.I. So it tells you it’s made at Enfield (they were also made by Albion and HAC, although both are pretty rare) and that it’s a Mk.I*.
The Mk.I** was a simplified model which dropped an internal hammer block safety to simplify production. IIRC they were only made in 1942 and 1943 because they weren’t drop safe. I know alot of them had the hammer block added later but I’m not sure if they were remarked when it was done.

Thanks for the response! Mine has the EFD super imposed too, I thought it looked like a backwards G. But mine looks more like a T and than an I. And then there are two stars.
I was wondering if it's a ** model, but it seems like there is a hammer block safety? If I pull the trigger you can force the hammer forward again after it drops, but if you release the trigger the hammer is locked in place.

I have a mk 1 (1937) example, with corresponding 1939 AM issued webbing gear (holster, belt, ammo pouch).

So what did the British looked at when they were deciding on the replacement for the 9mm Webley Mark 4 service revolver and 9.65mm Enfield No.2 service revolver?
