The guys over at Savagegeese do a quick technical review of the new ZR1, with some clips of talking with the engineers and technical specs. Love a good deep dive into the car that Savagegeese always provides

Keith is a great guy to talk to. Thanks for posting OP. Hard to argue the higher trim c8s arent true super cars.
kuri-kuma@reddit
Anyone saying the Z06 and up isn’t a super car is just categorically a hater. What Corvette has done is incredible. ZR1/X should be in hyper car territory.
Jkcanwien@reddit
no car that took direct inspiration from a car thats a decade old - 458.
They are not innovators and basing perfecting and optimizing a real super car.
Ihate_reddit_app@reddit
I don't know why, but I find this stupid critique coming from a Maserati owner of all people pretty hilarious.
OldAbbreviations1590@reddit
It's a sub 2 second 0-60 mph from the factory...
KazJunShipper@reddit
They're just a bunch of babies
Not_RAMBO_Its_RAMO@reddit
At this point what's really stopping the ZR1/ZR1X from being a hyper car? Price and exclusivity I assume?
-CampinCarl-@reddit
And interior quality but yeah that's about it.
Hukthak@reddit
Yeah except the 2026 models have a better interior than the porches. I would love to hear from anyone who has sat in the new interior, GM moved it up a notch if not two with the new refresh for this exact argument.
SithSidious@reddit
Platform sharing with an affordable sports car / being a trim of an affordable sports car IMO.
longgamma@reddit
Still waiting for the budget crossover shootout. This v8 spiciness is distracting you guys from true automotive journalism.
DepthHour1669@reddit
Unironically this
MrPterodactyl@reddit
As long as they include Autobahn Country Club lap times for each
lostboyz@reddit
Absolute monster and engineering marvel. I feel like there's still a lot of room on the design side to make it more special. If you're competing with million dollar + cars, there's room for a little more than a big wing. I've been hoping that coach builders would do something with the c8 platform. I think it looks great, but not as exciting as it could be.
DanielG165@reddit
I think now with 1250 horsepower, and all of the sheer sophistication and engineering that is packed into the ZR1X, an even crazier version is unnecessary imo.
lostboyz@reddit
Nothing about this car is "necessary" but they're leaving money on the table. They've truly elevated the product from an engineering standpoint, it would be cool if that was true across the whole product
tugtugtugtug4@reddit
I've talked about this in other threads on the vette, but real super/hyper car buyers don't look at the corvette. They aren't cross shopping it. It could be 2 minutes faster than a Ferrari around the ring and Ferrari buyers still wouldn't look twice at it.
GM is doing the right thing by not trying to entice Ferrari/Lambo/Pagani/Koenigsegg/McLaren buyers with tons of crazy styling and material packages, because it won't work.
Really the target customers for the Z06 and ZR1/X are rich GM fans and people who buy 911 GTS/Turbo/GT2/GT3/S/T models.
mcbawk@reddit
As someone who owns 2 new McLarens and a bunch of other stuff, I also have a Z06...
This whole "crossshopping" thing doesn't exist. I buy cars because I'm an enthusiast, not for the badge or prestige. I don't need some car to do that for me. I'd buy anything that is fun and enjoyable regardless.
The only people I know who love to brag about their name brand are people who are over leverage desperately trying to keep up with the Jones.
People who afford hypercars view them just like a normal car. You know what my friend did to his brand new Aventador S with 5 miles on the clock? Dropped and stripped out the engine completely to throw a turbo on it. Blew the car up in less than 3 months doing some underground drag racing, dumped it and didn't care. Even my McLarens are covered in more mud and dirt then any Wrangler in my area.
If you can comfortably afford these cars, they aren't any different than the way you would view a Nissan Vogue.
The problem is if you view these cars as your aspiring dream. Then you are gonna have a bad time. You will mull over every mile, scratch and moment its in the shop getting fixed. Don't do that. Hypercars are great but the delta between a z06 and 750s really isn't that big. Even a Stingray is a heck of a lot of car.
We are just chasing that dragon. Looking for any new experience regardless of badge. I will be looking forward to my ZR1 just as much as any McLaren.
Jkcanwien@reddit
you are a minority, people who can afford 1 super car aren't thinking about a corvette
mcbawk@reddit
Just last week we had a McLaren meet up of about 20 people. At lunch we were all talking about the ZR1. Of those people half of us also have a Z06.
Every once in awhile we will get that guy who owns 1 supercar show up and just brag non stop about how much they love McLaren while dissing every single other car out there. Those dudes are just looking for validation because they finally were able to join the club and think that means they can look down on others.
Luckily there's currently a 100% attrition rate with these people. All these day traders get too close to the sun and end up losing all their earnings, or blow through their inheritance or lotto money.
People who have been around a long time buying these cars most certainly think about Corvettes.
I'm not discounting your possible ancedental experience, pretentious people exists, but in the 20 years I've been buying supercars, more often then not you will come across people as I explained in my original post. We just love cars, whatever they are.
lostboyz@reddit
they don't look at them as an either/or, but there's plenty of overlap in the owners, especially if they do track day stuff.
GM absolutely has the ability to compete on every level, now more than ever, but it needs more than some blue interior bits and a big wing. The rear shots in this video with the small spoiler is almost disappointing how unimpressive it looks compared what it can do. If they gave their designers free reign to make a true hand crafted car using the c8 bones, that product could absolutely compete with anyone.
nujabes02@reddit
On the straight of Nurburgring, would a large wing lower the top speed ? I too questioned the lack of a big wing but maybe they are that confident in the handling they just want to power thru that last straight with 1250hp?
DanielG165@reddit
Cross shopping doesn’t exist. I’ve talked to plenty of Ferrari and McLaren owners that also have a C8 Stingray, or Z06 in their stable. People with money like that purchase a variety of different vehicles, because most of them are car enthusiasts. I can guarantee that a lot more exotic car owners are looking at the ZR1 and ZR1X than you think.
Also, what the hell is a, “real super car owner” anyway? You think super cars are relegated to only cars from Europe?
peanutbuttahcups@reddit
I think a Cadillac version of the ZR1X could be that car. Their brand seems to be experiencing a kind of resurgence, with their racing programs (IMSA, Le Mans, F1) and luxury EVs, so a hypercar with a hybrid drivetrain could be their halo car. Call it the Cien or something.
ErectChin@reddit
That would be an excellent move. A Cadillac XLR8 but cooler now that the Corvette has continuously accelerated itself out of the "still a Corvette" stigma.
_The_Real_Sans_@reddit
Doing that would add cost though, and the whole goal of the Corvette (from my understanding, anyway) is to provide the best performance and most of the supercar experience at a bargain price.
lostboyz@reddit
They could ship off the car minus body panels to somewhere else and hand finish it. It's really not different than what the Celestiq program is.
It's really just a shower thought, clearly they aren't failing at anything by selling this as it is.
hoxxxxx@reddit
don't worry i highly doubt any of them will get driven more than a couple thousand miles anyway
hoxxxxx@reddit
whoa i thought jack was going to kill that guy for a sec there lol
aprtur@reddit
Reminds me of being on some photography assignments that had no chance for a redo, and someone just walks in front of you - lack of consideration from others is a real pisser.
Cactus1986@reddit
Need an update on Jack’s BMW.
aprtur@reddit
Per his follow-up post here on Reddit, even more rusty shitbox than he realized, and is going to either find another one or consider other options. We do need his Camaro purchase update, though.
macgirthy@reddit
Guess I'll say it, I can't wait for the ring numbers. Read in another thread here that GM is spending 2 months or so and will attempt a record. I hope they do both with the ZR1 and the X.
I wonder how close they can get to the AMG 1? I know this thing will most definitely be heavier since the regular ZR1 is in the 38xxlbs ball park (same as the AMG 1). Imo it would be crazy if they got close considering how much tech the 1 has like active downforce in the front and im assuming 4WS.
rex8499@reddit
I'm wondering if the ZR1 will have a better lap time than the X. I don't think the battery pack will last more than a quarter of the lap even with regen braking, and will be more of 300# impediment once it's depleted. My friend with an E-Ray reported that the battery was largely depleted after a single autocross lap and he'd need to have it in charge mode while between runs to rebuild some juice. Should be interesting to see how that plays out.
macgirthy@reddit
Batt life is probably good for one run. But I imagine the car has regen braking, not only to charge the battery but to help slow the car down.
Juicyjackson@reddit
Pretty sure thats the plan.
I am expecting the times to be quiet good, I dont think it will pass the likes of the AMG One, or the GT3RS/GT2RS MR, but i think it will easily pass the Mustang GTD...
RazingsIsNotHomeNow@reddit
Honestly the ZR1X would be a disappointment if it didn't beat the GT2RS. The ZR1 I would hope to be around GT3 levels but I doubt it beats the 3RS. But the hybrid torque vectoring of the X should put it on par with 2.
stoned-autistic-dude@reddit
You severely underestimate how much power can make a difference on a long track like the Ring. The uphill straight and main straights are where they can make up a few seconds in sheer acceleration alone.
Juicyjackson@reddit
Idk if the ZR1X will be able to beat a 3 Million car with Mercedes F1 tech and everything, but we will see haha.
Would be absolutely hillarious if they do.
biguk997@reddit
Would be quite the statement and would probably generate some hype for Cadillac F1
buickregalgs18@reddit
Either ZR1 should beat the GT2RS MR, having a minimum 350 hp difference should make the difference.
macgirthy@reddit
I'm expecting it to exceed any 3RS performance even the Mathey Racing versions. The only thing holding back the ZR1 is the weight really. But the hp advantage should give it an edge.
rks1743@reddit
What a bad time to be poor. 😔
Vhozite@reddit
Also a poor time to be a GM hater 😔 they’re making amazing vehicles now it’s really hard for me to argue their company sucks.
I love American cars and GM is punching the lights out of Dodge and Ford right now
IAmTaka_VG@reddit
INB4 it beats everything but the AMG1 at the track but Euro magazines still say it’s a bad buy and to recommend a German car over it.
stoned-autistic-dude@reddit
This car is going a meth, cocaine, and nitroglycerine bomb packed in a chassis. Lord have mercy.
kilertree@reddit
I thought it was weird that GM killed Camaro because that would give Ford Ford the pony car market. Mustang sales are down and GM is chasing the super car market for higher profits. They need something I didn't
daxelkurtz@reddit
Cannot wait to see one of these going 7mph through Kennebunkport
tatas2@reddit
Great video that shows the engineers didn't just slam in the electric motor from the E-Ray into the ZR1X and call it a day. They did a lot of upgrades to make it better. Another great video by Savagegeese.
