I lived in Eastern Europe, because I'm not Jewish, I'm fucking Polish Catholic! And it's common to have the doors open outwards. The reason I was given, was that it makes it so you can't kick the door down. Of course, if the Dude locked his door then our situation with the rug pissers would have gone differently.
