Ok you might think this is revisionist history. All the Trek fans I remember in the 80s and 90s were all about Seven, Dax, Troi, TPol, etc.
I was all about Mrs. Crusher. She was a smart, fierce, and dripped of sexiness. Gates had that locked down.
SunnysideUp2670@reddit
That would be Dr Crusher
Used-Gas-6525@reddit
The only half-decent TNG film.
Global_Theme864@reddit
It’s unquestionably the best TNG film but Generations and Insurrection are at least half decent. They may not live up to First Contact or the better TOS films but they hold up on rewatch.
I’m not going to defend Nemesis though. I honestly feel bad for Tom Hardy every time I watch it.
dplafoll@reddit
I'll defend Nemesis for one of the best space battles in the whole franchise where we get to see the -E really go all out.
Frasier_C@reddit
I mean his career took off and he's a household name so there's no need to feel too bad for him.
Global_Theme864@reddit
Apparently he got heavily addicted to crack after being in it though.
Frasier_C@reddit
Wait really? I've never followed his life/career so that's news to me.
RhodySeth@reddit
My favorite Star Trek movie...of any era. Probably why ST: Insurrection felt like such a fall from grace, especially considering Frakes directed both of them.
Global_Theme864@reddit
Insurrection is honestly not bad taken on its own merits, it just feels like such a comedown from First Contact.
This is coming from someone who just watched it for the first time since it came out.
RhodySeth@reddit
I'm sure it's not. It was at the height of my fanboy era, Riker was flying the Enterprise with a joystick and I just couldn't.
Global_Theme864@reddit
Yeah that was about my experience seeing it opening night at 12 years old. It comes off better with the benefit of lower expectations in my late 30s.
solwolf101@reddit
Insurrection is the only TNG movie that feels like a TNG episode and I love it for that.
mologav@reddit
Two takes Frakes.
BigConstruction4247@reddit
I enjoyed all of them, but this one is clearly the best.
P-Jean@reddit
I liked generations
MisterTomServo@reddit
Same here. As someone who watched TOS (in syndication) as little kid, saw the classic 80s movies in theaters, then finally got a star trek I could call my own (TNG), I loved it. Of course it's flawed, but that scene with the saucer separation is worth the whole film :)
P-Jean@reddit
It just felt like a few okay-good tng episodes strung together. I didn’t like Kirk’s death, but that’s nothing new for TNG.
UYscutipuff_JR@reddit
I’m with you. I know it gets panned but I thought it was pretty good! It might just be nostalgia though as 10 year old me was just psyched for a TNG movie and I’ve loved it ever since
Used-Gas-6525@reddit
The one that Nimoy refused to appear in? Yeah, not Trek's finest hour IMHO.
fryamtheeggguy@reddit
Nailed it.
solemn_penguin@reddit
I always preferred her over Marina Sirtis. She may be the reason why I have a thing for redheads...

Dr Baddie
Delicious-Flower-574@reddit
I want to CRUSH HER 😋🚀
revivalfx@reddit
As a young teenager, every time she graced the screen, I was spellbound. She's even more stunning here than on the show.
rorzri@reddit
On some kind of Star Trek
insideabookmobile@reddit
Wonder why I grew up with a thing for Irish gals?
CrazyGunnerr@reddit
You love Miles, but found out you prefer women?
Overall_Falcon_8526@reddit
Between this and Brenna O'Dell... though "McFadden" may be Scottish.
CraftsyDad@reddit
Och Nooooooo
Stilcho1@reddit
if you're old, was because of Maureen O'Hara

If you're an elder millennial, I present to you B*witched 🥵
fryamtheeggguy@reddit
As someone else has said, Gates always rates.
atreidessun@reddit
What is she? 70?
ItsPronouncedJod@reddit
You cannot have a little grace, you either have grace or you don’t.
Goadfang@reddit
Yes, yes she does indeed.
Johnsendall@reddit
This absolute most beautiful moment is her looking down at Geordi in Generations. This human female is far from repulsive.

stellarinterstitium@reddit
This was hilarious, just super sublime engagement with the Gatesgoodsquad. I felt seen.
No-Magazine-2739@reddit
Buuuuuu… bhuuuuuu…. (I want Bev to, you get the idea)
calculon68@reddit
still wish they cast her as Dr Cathy Ryan in the Tom Clancy Jack Ryan movies. (she had a cameo in the Hunt for Red October)
Seeker80@reddit
Oh, she'd have been a great Cathy.
I remember being underwhelmed with that Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit film that Chris Pine was in. I like Keira Knightley, but she didn't seem right for a Cathy.
Fine-Funny6956@reddit
So hot… >!James Cromwell!<
Dependent-Hurry9808@reddit
Jesus, she could give me a physical any time
EvolvedMonkeyInSpace@reddit
Thats the ghost she has a good time with

It’ll bring the goost
Overall_Falcon_8526@reddit
Not only did the script do her dirty in First Contact, but so did the wig master. Look at this woman.
GarthvonAhnen@reddit
I’ve always wondered why they kept giving her wigs.
Grouchy_Front5339@reddit
Thought this was r/oldschoolcool at first glance
andychef@reddit
Still is 😍
Starch-Wreck@reddit
Just putting this out there. James Cromwell is 6’7.
Gates is wearing some big ass heels.
laker9903@reddit
So many celebrities walking up to that movie…like some kind of “Star Trek”…I’ll see myself out.
TheOminousTower@reddit
I love James Cromwell. What an absolute legend.
probablyaythrowaway@reddit
This will always be where I know him from.
Tribe303@reddit
Same director as the Mad Max films, if you can believe it!
TheOminousTower@reddit
Yes. Babe Pig In the City was also my favorite film growing up!
George Miller has directed so many incredible films...
If you didn't know, he was an ER doctor in Australia before he became a director.
His twin brother John went to medical school with him and continued practicing medicine.
_Husker@reddit
She is magnificent.
uberneuman_part2@reddit
Damn, Doctor, you lookin’ fine…….
Character_Unit_9521@reddit
Hey, that's the lady from Hunt for Red October.
Foulmouthedleon@reddit
She must be pretty tall - Cromwell is something like 6’7”
missmarypoppinoff@reddit
The tall bangs and angle of his face are skewing it some. She’s 5’8” which is above average but the not quite “tall” in my opinion.
But I’m biased because I’m a 5’11” female who truly is tall 😝🙃
TheOminousTower@reddit
Yeah, like he's the tallest actor in Succession after Nicholas Braun, and that's only because he's lost some height as he got older.
circ-u-la-ted@reddit
HOLY SHIT I did not recognize him in that role. nice

lukieinthesky82@reddit
One of those society portrait guys, like Gainsborough, would have enjoyed painting Gates.
silverfaustx@reddit
Gates looks beautiful
