Having flown both, the 175 is far more lazy, it's not even really close. The 320 has manual anti-ice, and you have to push a button to start the descent. I called it even when starting the engines since you have to lift a plastic cover for each switch on the 175, while the 320 has one extra switch to move.

You get my upvote. The door lock doesn't need to be covered in the same guard that covers the fire switches. It's absolutely a potential brain fart moment to just bypass something like that. I thought they should've, at the very least, not painted it red.

Unfortunately you’re in the minority. I expected a lot of downvotes for my comment No other airplane requires you to lift a guard to do a normal thing like start an APU or start an Engine. Embraer pilots are conditioned to bypass the safety to start an engine. Unfortunately all of the guards and switches feel the same. Embraer is the plane that most regional pilots first fly in their airline career. they have to unlearn all of the acquired motor skills like reaching for the left knob to change heading and the middle knob to change airspeed. When these pilots move onto a Boeing or Airbus after they leave their regional - when they get task saturated flying a Boeing or Airbus they revert back to grabbing the left knob for heading. I see it all of the time. 99% of the time when the pilot turns the wrong knob for heading or airspeed it’s because they flew an Embraer first in their careers.

They mean that you have to lift a guard, something normally reserved for an emergency/non-normal procedure, as part of every flight. I suppose the idea would be that you’re then in the habit of lifting guards and pushing buttons without verification that you may reflexively do it when you shouldn’t. Thinking about it now I don’t think I’ve ever flown a plane that required you to lift a guard to accomplish a normal procedure but I also don’t really think it poses that much of a threat.

The bus will absolutely make you the laziest pilot ever if you let it. I force myself to hand fly without auto throttles at least once a week to stay somewhat sharp. I always chuckle when I think of engine startup for me vs other birds (looking at you 737).

I always chuckle when people say the 737 is so much harder to start than say a FADEC pushbutton start. You only flip 3 extra switches in the 737, both packs and lifting the fuel cutoff, is that really too much to handle? A 321 that can't get above 320 for 2 hours is funny though.

To start both engines on the 175 it’s 2 switches total: start left, start right. On the 737 it’s 11 switches total I think to start both engines normally

My point is that it takes a few seconds to do these switches and it's made out to be some crazy complicated procedure. When I'm starting a 737, I've never once wished it was like the 175 :D

I hate how the Bus's levers don't move and "IDLE" is a flashing thing on the E/WD versus something you can physically feel. Boeings, Embraers and everyone else, you can see a windshear coming via unusual thrust lever position. Airbus? Nah, lives in Climb.

Both stupid easy. I liked the bus more because sidestick flying is superior flying. Those rams horns were just not pleasant to me. They both have their own little gotchas that make certain aspects of the job easier than the other. The only caveat I'll give you is Embraer still gives you the airplane first, whereas Airbus interprets and translates your "requests" into outputs. Which, really, any fly by wire airplane is doing, to a certain degree.
