You believe wrong, its specifically prohibited in legislation for cannabis to be prescribed with the method of inhalation being combustion.

Legally a flower prescription must be vaporised if you're going to be inhaling it, of course not everybody follows that law but no pharmacy is dispensing roll up's - only raw flowers.

Environmental Health at my local council were great. I also spoke to the police about him because he was a very heavy user and used to drive for a living, I often saw him getting out of his van with a spiff in his hand. The police took a lot of info from me but I have no idea how they proceeded.

But jokes aside, we had a similar issue but the neighbour just smoked cigarettes (far worse smell imo). Obv nothing you can do since they have the right to enjoy their garden, so we wrote a very polite message and asked if we could work something out. Since we took the time to get on good terms, it ended up well: they text us when they're about to step out for a smoke so we can close the windows, and text when they're done so we can open everything back up.

You mentioned they're constantly outside smoking, but is that really the case? Is that just weekends or also weekdays (and are you wfh)? Anyway, I appreciate the smell is annoying, but consider navigating it as a situation where nothing illegal is involved (they may be smoking prescription), and just people enjoying their space.

Unless they've done antisocial stuff that make you feel worried about talking to them, I say try approaching with an open mind to find a solution together.

Pot doesn’t stink. Not everyone may like the smell though. I used to know a man who doesn’t smoke himself but lets to smoke in his house because he likes the smell. Same me. Love the smell of it. So it’s matter of the opinion I’d guess. But just to talk to them and ask if there’s any way they can smoke, so you could smell it less? Many pot smokers don’t realise how intense smell may be to others around as they don’t feel it, but are very friendly and would try to cooperate.

We had this in our previous home. Our house stunk of weed. We didnt even invite people round anymore because we were so embarrassed by the smell. We asked them nicely a few times but just got abuse. So we reported them to the police every single time they smoked it. Multiple times a day. Police got so sick of us they came out and caught them dealing. Carrier bags of weed were taken from the house. After they were arrested, they were suddenly able to walk the dog each night and smoke then. Problem solved but took months. We ended up moving anyway as they were absolute chavs obviously. Try speaking to them, if nowt else at least you can say you tried. Do they rent? Contact the landlord and explain the issue. Log it with 101, just say you want to log it so you have proof of the issue/dates and times for any future use. Sorry you have to deal with this.

If it’s both council/ha they should have a dedicated team for antisocial behaviour, start keeping a log and then raise it with your housing officer.

My friend had the problem with her neighbour, she’s badly asthmatic and it set off her asthma - it really was bad, you could not sit on her patio or her have her living room window open when the guy was chugging away at his spliff. The housing officer eventually came out and dealt with it.

And before everyone gets hysterical, the skunk on the streets nowadays reeks way worse than anything i ever encountered during my misspent youth - lemon haze was the popular strand then and that actually smells quite nice

I got lucky, my new neighbour smokes it, and it was coming through into my house and was rank. In the end I put down Reddit and went over for a quiet word, all ready for the abuse. To my surprise he was very apologetic and I've not had an issue since. Hopefully that lasts.

In the meantime I'm going around all the party wall sealing every crack and gap i can find (40's ex council house).

I know OP has tried to engage without any luck.

Something else I was planning to try (and may do so anyway) was to install a PIV system in the loft. My thought was the slight positive pressure might stop the stank coming into the house.. could be worth considering for op and others with the same issue.

Ok I realise it's not idea but as a smoker I use candles to prevent the smell bothering people where possible, chef candles only really work for this inside but you could use a citronella candle or similar outside to help change/ mask the smell you experience.

I bet the police would be more interested if you suggested to them that your neighbours might be growing it too...

Either way, a visit from the police would make them think twice about being so open about smoking it.

As you've already spoken to the neighbours though, there's a good chance they'd know who grassed them up. Going this route would be seen as aggressive and may only add to your issue.

Other than that, the council? Everybody has the right to enjoy their own garden and you are being prevented from doing that.
