media pause/play button. Some keyboards have it built in. I have a macro set up for mine.

I've pinned my volume mixer to my taskbar. If you open that it will tell you what is playing sound.

I have a plug-in called mutetab I think that does this. I also have it set up to automatically mute tabs that aren’t on a whitelist.

Maybe this is obvious but in web browsers they have the little speaker which shows on the tab that is playing audio

Lol its good to mention, obvious is a sneaky thing. That is usually what I do but when I have enough tabs and windows open and I'm tab around looking for that little symbol...

Volume mixer is handy for that. You can make your own hotkey to open it.
