It's a damn shame. These are legitimately the best car is still interest has made in the last 10 years. Guilia QV is undeniably one of the greatest sports sedans of all time. Stelvio and Julia are currently the most underrated cars on the market right now. At one time there were plans for the gulia platform to be used for the next charger and Challenger. Alfa Romeo seems to know what they're doing when it comes to tuning a car. Stellantis should give them the reins

Bro you tried to spell Giulia three times, each of them different and wrong lmao

It's a dumb name. Probably why the car failed 🙇🤦

It had insanely bad reliability the first few years, waited about 4 years too long to update the interior, never had a mid-power engine option, and was always slower than the Germans in a straight line and on a track. It's incredibly beautiful, and (arguably) more of a "drivers car". I love mine, but I got it used because they depreciate faster than EVs. If I paid new MSRP I'd be incredibly disappointed and underwater on my payments.

No modern car should require a radiator replacement before 50k miles. That's why I gave up on the brand, and Stellantis entirely.

I could write to you about my new q7 and what failed on it after 1000 kms... But yeah i get your point, i had issues with my stelvio too and eventually sold it even tho i loved driving it

The Giulia depreciation curve isn't that different from a 3 series. Comparing 2018 M3s and QVs in my area they're within 5000 cad of eachother. It was not slower than the Germans on the track what are you talking about. It had the world record for the fastest sedan on the Nurburgring. It absolutely destroyed the F80 M3. You're comparing it with the G80.

I'm late to circle back to this. The *base* Giulia is slower than its base German rivals. (or base in the American models because I know Europe has a lot more trims and diesel models) I don't remember the exact times but I remember shortly after it released reading an article that summarized the Giulia as having more power than the current A4 and 3 series yet having slower times at the drag strip. This was years ago so my apologies if not 100% accurate.

CirithGorgor88@reddit

Obviously never driven one, the car is fast. As is Stelvio, especially in everyday driving and one more thing it has zf8 which is 10x better than dsg boxes you get in vw scraps. The problems are fuel economy, dated interior, first couple of production years had bad interior. Some details are still better than germans : Steering wheel [ as good as porsche ] , steering feel, light chassis, zf8, looks... it was almost a complete package but stelantis gave up on it. Bmw was consistently improving 3 series svery year and i drove m340 2025 and what an improvement from an original package, especially ride quality. What a shit company stelantis is
View on Reddit #68223632

TheWolfofBinance@reddit

it doesn't have any form of launch control. That's probably why. Drag times are dumb.
View on Reddit #61151200

ob_knoxious@reddit

Drag times are objectively dumb but they also very much matter to the target audience of entry level luxury sedans that are "guys who want a cool car yet know very little about cars"

TheWolfofBinance@reddit

Yeah I know...sigh
View on Reddit #61153221

puddud4@reddit

Our Stelvio has an MSRP of $52,000. We just bought it for $15,000 with $60,000 miles 🤣 On the used market they're unbeatable but yeahhh I can see why they failed against their intended competition
View on Reddit #59159504

TheWolfofBinance@reddit

Define fail...It sold pretty decently in the beginning for such a boutique low volume brand in North America. It was never ever going to beat BMW or MErcedes, it is impossible. Alfa does not have the logistics or dealer network. They've been selling this car for 10 years now, and that's the issue. There should have been a completely new Giulia 5 years in like BMW does.

It's the best cause Stellantis had NOTHING to do with it, it's an FCA product (was also developped by a bunch of engineers from Ferrari.)

What about the Giorgio platform?
View on Reddit #65239402

BioDriver@reddit (OP)

It lives on through the current generation but is likely dead once the next batch of cars comes out, as it's not designed to host a hybrid powertrain.

shellmiro@reddit

Good move in the current market scenario but with Stellantis being Stellantis I don't know how much I trust them to pull this off.
View on Reddit #58899845

alfredadamski@reddit

What do you mean with pull off? That is basically what a lot of competitors now do. They are back-pedalling and scaling down to some extent their EV-only approach. Hell, there were news that Porsche wants to develop a ICE version of the new Porsche Macan, because it does not as well as expected. For Stellantis it is bad because most of their brands have not that much in their current product line-up. So, their existing products have to soldier on longer or will be discontinued way before a successor model/product gets launched. You see that at Maserati with the discontinuation of the Quattroporte and the Levante. Both were discontinued without any immediate successor model. The biggest issue at Stellantis is that decisions take too long and on the way they are making mistakes. They have invested 1 billion EUR into the development of the Giorgio RWD platform that underpins Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio. And they did nothing else with it! (And their grave mistake: They did not offer a Giulia Sportwagon! You could have easily sold more, especially in Germany, who is stationwagon crazy.) At every other company you would have utilised that platform more by simply using it for a new larger SUV (first Maserati Levante successor, then an Alfa Romeo version of it) and a new Quattroporte. Another idea would have been to make a smaller, more compact sportscoupe that is a true successor to the Maserati 3200/4200. Price would be around 100k. Of course also a Spyder version of it. The MC20 needs badly a price cut and V8 version. Yes, some former buyers will be upset about a drastic price cut, but as there are not that many that are buying or bought MC20s. And while we are at it: Make a sportier SUV, development brief: An Lamborghini Urus competitor, but for the 3rd of the MSRP of the Urus. I do not know who buys these SUV coupes, but companies would not produce them if people would not buy them.
View on Reddit #58902282

dustygator@reddit

They actually did use the Giorgio platform for the smaller Maserati SUV (Grecale) and GranTurismo/GranCabrio. But yes, developing one of the finest mid-sized platforms of the last 10-15 years and building all of 4 models with it is the kind of corporate idiocy that earned Stellantis it's reputation.
View on Reddit #58909237

SeezTinne@reddit

How much of that can be attributed to Sergio's passing and how much to just their brand strategy? Like, aside from Dodge, where else would they have applied it?
View on Reddit #61148768

dustygator@reddit

Entirely possible that Stellantis never happens under Sergio's watch. And if they did, zero chance that the smaller company (PSA) takes over the CEO role. Peugeot makes fantastic small, fuel efficient, commuter cars but they had no business running a company composed of primarily enthusiast/luxury brands. Plus the whole US vs ROW divide in profitability and and future strategy.  A Chrysler 300 would've made a lot of sense. Possibly a Fiat/Alfa spider could fit on the platform. Even the stuff they are doing makes sense, it just look too long to get to market. Why was there a 4-year gap between generations of the GranTurismo?
View on Reddit #61154939

bluntoclock@reddit

Its so mind blowingly stupid. - Develop a brilliant platform at great expense - Pivot away from that platform within the first quarter of the life cycle to chase a trend. - Realize their mistake and pivot back a decade later once the brilliant platform has been left to languish without improvement. The only hope they have is to modernize the georgio, but I think they're locked in on STLA large regardless of if it's electric or not. Georgio platform was made bespoke for the quadrifolgio and adopted to other performance cars. STLA is a platform for electric jeeps and Chrysler vans... What a shame..

Between this, the electric mc20, the state of the next-gen quattroporte, I have zero hope for either brand. It's almost like they're pulling the jaguar strategy of rebranding the image and taking a pause but like, not on purpose lol.

Isn't the electric mc20 scrapped already? Or is it back again? I don't even fuckin know at this point. That's how bad it is. Can't they pop the QP on the Charger EV STLA platform and call it a day?
View on Reddit #58900637

desf15@reddit

Insanely overpriced seems to be the case for all Maseratis. Grecale, Granturismo and MC20 seems like somebody looked at pricing last minute and decided, Maserati can’t be that cheap, add another 20% on top. Also I still have a feeling that if Nettuno had the same power, but was a V8, they would sell more.

> Isn't the electric mc20 scrapped already? Or is it back again? I don't even fuckin know at this point. That's how bad it is. Still scrapped. They took a damn long while to scrap it though, 5 years of development. > Can't they pop the QP on the Charger EV STLA platform and call it a day? That was the plan, was supposed to release next year, boss says it won't be dynamic enough, they've delayed it till '28 to find a new platform and rumor they're doing it on the granturismo platform now. They are focusing on the weight, dynamics, 400mi+ range, it seems like they know what they want to do. Its just why are they wasting so much time and money getting there.

What would you do if you were head honcho at Maserati right now?
View on Reddit #58901666

hi_im_bored13@reddit

Would’ve stretched the granturismo platform from the start and made a cost cut version to suit the ghibli as well. The platforms are not the issues with these cars, those are fantastic, it’s everything surrounding they need to fix, their customization and pricing is all over the place

This situation is actually quite simple. To move forward the can pivot back to Giorgio Evo for new Stelvio and Giulia. Since their version of STLA did not account for ICE engines. So keep same on Giorgio Evo + maybe v8 for gran tourism. That would take it to 4 cars on the platform. Scrap I4 engine for Maserati, keep it to v6 v8 and electric. Then for the icing on the cake. Develop what would have been the new Giulia as a slightly bigger fastback competing with the panamera. Bring back the Ghibli, and Quattroporte with v6,v8 and electric where it makes sense + also the Alfa Romeo Purrasongue like SUV maybe slightly bigger. This one can run on I6 hurricane engine + V8 co developed with maserati + electric. All these cars can be built state side for all left hand models, amd this can side step tariffs. But also since US Stellantis already have am STLA platform that already supports ICE vehicles

The pivot from BEV only to hybrid isn't news but it's good they're giving them time to adapt the chassis and get it right. Getting rid of Tavares is allowing each brand to focus on what they do best.

I know this is a reflection of the wider industry but out of all manufacturers I am very surprised they decided this was a good strategy given how the brand is struggling.
