in the book they can't escape the sewers, so the girl asks for everyone to run a train on her, therefore making them all "less innocent"? And then they easily escaped afterwards.
It gets so much worse, its told from her perspective, she describes all of their hogs and how they feel upon entry, and she marries the one with the biggest dong.
If i recall it's also because their patron Turtle deity is a god of love. So by making love they grow closer to their space turtle god
At the same time dispelling the fear and distrust Pennywise's (who is the mortal enemy of the turtle) has placed on them
Steven King admittedly was flying high on coke when he wrote IT
It's mostly chunks and details of various books that he doesn't remember.
The only one he has said he has absolutely no memory of is Cujo, which was written at the height of his alcoholism.
Tommyknockers probably only escaped that category by having enough volume that he was bound to remember some of it, that book absolutely reads like he was drunk out of his fucking mind the whole time.
King said he can't stand Tommyknockers because it brings up really bad memories of his alcoholism and its the one book he hates. Which I guess makes sense when its about an alcoholic prone to violent blackouts watching everyone do magic drugs that unleashes powerful creative abilities while making them selfish. I always bring up Tommyknockers and Desperation when people say King was a talentless hack back in the day. It takes fucking talent to write two entirely different novels using most the same characters because you were too high to remember one of them.
>two entirely different novels using mostly the same characters because you were too high to remember one of them
Regulators and Desperation have the shared characters and were written when he was sober, it was just a little experiment he did. Regulators kind of reads like his “truly fucked up on substances” books (Tommyknockers and Dreamcatcher are probably the best examples) though. That book stops making sense after a certain point.
Isn't there two of his books/stories that have essentially the same core plot, just written differently?
He was so blasted that he wrote a story, forgot about it, but still had the idea floating around in his head and wrote it again.
Writing with coke is pure bliss though. you can write whatever you want, even if just for yourself and you feel like the absolute god of an infinite realm. You can try writing drunk if you're happy drunk too. Just open a blank notepad, get loaded, and write what you want with no shame.
Beats any therapy coz your sober self will learn from your drunk/high self, with more honesty than talking to anybody. And it's free.
I have never done either, but I have had psychosis multiple times, and I write my best work when completely delirious. At this point, I don't write anymore since it is depressingly bad compared to my psychosis-induced writing. I think there is something to the idea that all great minds have something wrong with them, even if just compulsive obsessiveness.
Also alcohol. I think he said he didn't even realize he had a problem with it until he was cleaning up after a writing bender and it hit him that he had gone through over a dozen cans/bottles of beer every day. He had 3-3 trashcans full of them like every week or something.
I mean it was the 80's so I get it. While I was just a kid I was also aware of the trends in society at the time.
> *Stephen* King admittedly was flying high on coke when he wrote IT
I assume his fans would rather believe he was railing 8 balls than railing 8 year olds.
How is it possible to write one of the most well interconnected stories ever written while on coke?
Nearly every thing written in that book has meaning and connects back or forward to something else. Its ao full of symbolism and metaphors for itself. It's all so well planned out
Return the truth tortoise
Morty don't look into the turtles eyes, you'll learn everything
R-riiick I already looked into its eyes
*Gibberish*
AHHH *throws truth tortoise*
I took it to mean that they were connected and more cohesive as a group and also no longer children. The monster preyed exclusively on children at the time iirc.
Yeah that's basically it. After they defeat the monster they all have sex with the girl, one after another, in a shit-filled sewer tunnel, for....... *reasons*.
Like this isn't even a joke, that's what happens, read the book, *I* did, it fucking happened.
I reread the book like a month ago to see if it was as weird as I remember.
It's fucking nutty. That book is pretty fucking good for like 90% of it. King kinda shits the bed toward the end with the Turtle, but then the Child Train™ comes in and it's like "the fuck even just happened". Like it comes out of fucking nowhere.
That said, it's not as weird as the internet makes it out. It's still fucking WEIRD, don't get me wrong, but it's not like this smut scene that people are probably thinking of.
Granted, but it's still insanely questionable that it's even there
I mean whether it's 'erotic' or not isn't the point, King still sat down and said 'okay, time to write the underage sex scene!'
Teenagers having sex in books is pretty normal, tbh.
Daeny is only 13 in the GoT books, and only 16 in the show. Yet people can talk about GoT without bringing that up every 5 seconds.
In real life teenagers do have sex. It makes sense that media about teenagers involves them having sex as well.
100% with you. I think the scene is completely unnecessary and fucking weird. The Ben bit is where he started toeing a line and I checked out.
it's funny his self-insert gets sloppy 4ths or smth tho
I feel he almost always fucks up the endings. Its like he just builds this big thing, then gets sick of it and just finds the nearest exit and forces it thru no matter how ridicilous it comes off.
Yea the internet always makes it out as some big gangbang. If you’ve read the book it’s like a single page and is extremely vague but you know what’s happening.
Stephen King's 80s and 90s bibliography makes complete sense when you hear how much coke he was doing at the time. The man cannot remember writing Cujo, for example, he was that much on coke.
Imagine being so gifted that you can write that off your tits and not remember.
How many books were not written because of the cocaine.?
His head must have been fucked up but entertaining.
who knows I was a teen when reading the book...it was quite something.
The main character and the girl bang again in the future when they meet up again as adults to kill the clown as far as I rember.
And its not like he just wrote it in a single sentence...its quite detailed
It's a reference to a scene in the book that was left out of the film.
Essentially they all have sex with the girl because they're lost in the sewers and don't want to die virgins.
Before reading the comments to this post i did not know Stephen King is Japanese. But now i do, considering he is apparently a fan of writing about kids doing the nasty.
Writers avoided putting in the sewer sex scene only to put in a scene with a handful of kids in underwear staring at another kid in her underwear. Good job guys.
Yeah everyone is acting like we all turn into pedos if we take drugs. I never have taken drugs, but I suspect it only reveals something that was already there
I was always told that drunk speech is sober thoughts and I'm not sure how true it is, but surely it extends to other forms of abuse that lower your inhibition, such as cocaine. I mean, yes, a person who's instinct to steal is tempered while sober and loosened while drunk is still a better person while sober but it doesn't excuse them stealing their son's money while they're drunk lol
Now not to say that SK is a pedophile or anything, not saying that at all, but if he's willing to put that to paper and his editor allowed it through, presumably after asking SK if he *really* wanted it in there, that may indicate some lapse of judgement somewhere.
Oh yeah there's that thing with King being on drugs... He writes creepy and gross stuffs even when not on drugs.
His style has always been to write about fucked up things and they come naturally to him. So the weird underage sex is not just because he was on a shit load of drugs. Just like the rapes, the murders etc he puts in his novels. His mind still gave him the idea.
He likes to shock when sober. He likes to shock even more when on drugs. I think this is where stems from.
As you said, not to say he is a pedophile but the drugs clearly enhanced his willingness to go too far to a uncomfortable degree but it's something that has always been there, on drugs or not.
The only thing I disagree with is that I don't think the publishers had to check with him. It was 1986 and Stephen King was hot shit printing money. They saw that in the pages and thought it was one of those weird Stephen Kingism that would make them all the money in the world.
I'm pretty sure people are justifying by saying the drugs are to blame more than King himself.
Even in this sub, most post start with "In King's defense".
'I was high on cocaine and drunk as fuck'.
'Also, I'm a famous author'
'look at all my books'
'The gangbang united them'
'eskimo brothers together'
'it was pretty fucked up though, yeah'
T'was a train.
Read '[ The Library Policeman](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Past_Midnight)
The guy is a bit obsessed with kids being raped, change my mind.
There some fuckin weirdo shit in his books. I read The Dark Tower, and there was a line where the main character, Roland, was describing Jake as having "pretty little lips". Jake was a young boy. I had to put the book down for awhile. Felt like someone just poured cold water on my soul.
Why, stephen? Why you gotta go and put these particular words in this particular order down on paper and just sell them to people?
I genuinely like Stephen King, he's very talented.
But drink thoughts echo a sober mind.
At least he never actually acted in his thoughts.
Which is an achievement for celebrities these days.
That we know about anyway........ 😆......... 😐
Sure, but why is that middle part about being afraid of the sun in there? Who edited this image together and thought “yeah, this communicates a cohesive thought”?
The middle part (white text) is the response to the yellow text, and part of the first post. Someone else responded with a SK joke because the photo of the actress is from IT. Not that insane of a logic leap lol

I am all out of context and ask our good ol’ friend what this was all about.
It actually said yes and started giving me an answer before this popped up 🤣.
It’s not even how they beat the clown, it’s how they find their way after getting lost in the sewer. Running a train on Bev somehow got their minds/souls reconnected so their combined brain power could remember the way out.
Why do people keep blaming cocaine on the fact that Stephen King wrote in a scene that involves a underage orgy and not the possibility that maybe he's just fucked in the head and likes that sort of thing
There’s a book and movie adaptation about a spooky clown alien that in the first part a group of kids defeat, they use the power of friendship with some more disturbing details in the book that wasn’t adapted (thankfully cuz wtf was King thinking) in the movie.
He wasn’t doing a lot of coke, like a fuck ton of coke. I’m not even exaggerating, he fully admits in his biography that for a solid 2 decades, during which he wrote IT and various other books, that he was doing an insane amount of coke and other drugs. So much so, to the point he straight up has no memory of writing some of his books like Cujo for example.
