My mom was an early Boomer so she liked Rock-Elvis, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, etc, 70's country-Waylon & Willie & the Boys. She actually taught me how to make mix tapes with her record collection. She had a huge record collection-albums and 45's. I loved and still love 80's music too. 90's were ok. I don't like most current music.

I was a teen in the 80s. I listened to 80s pop/rock, but I was also super into the oldies (mainly 60s, but some 50s). My friend group (who were much more heavy metal/punk) also liked the oldies. I remember driving around Friday nights listening to the oldies shows

Capital Records released an “Ultra Lounge” CD series back the mid 90’s - early 00’s. (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra-Lounge) If you haven’t heard it, I’m guessing you’d get a kick out of it. Nearly all of it is on YouTube, somebody has built an exhaustive Spotify playlist of the original 18 albums, etc… so it’s not as difficult to find as it had been a few years back. It’s a treat!

I was fortunate to grow up around or be friends with people across a wide range of musical tastes. So I picked up bits from everyone. Like watching my youngest teen get into a mix of rap, pop, industrial, and techno on the way to and from school. Guess I run the gamut from obvious to choices to some deep cuts. My deep left field recommendation is Fazon by Sopwith Camel. Thanks to my big brother for turning me on to that awesome bit of psychedelic space jazz. Or maybe The Goodbye Look from Donald Fagen.

I grew up in Toronto, the NYC of Canada, so I was exposed to punk, new wave, etc as they were happening. I couldn’t stand all that 60’s/70’s ”old” stuff. Still can’t. All my friends now who didn’t grow up in a major city like that got stuck into the boomer music vibe. They like it now but that’s because it’s now “old” music. They missed grunge, rap, hiphop while I embraced it. Music keeps getting better imo but most of my contemporaries don’t agree

I can understand that growing up in Toronto. I was quite the opposite. I grew up in rural Texas on a farm where the nearest town had about 75 people. My parents had an old stereo turntable and Mom played all the oldies!

I listened to a lot of 60s stuff because mom played it. Beatles, Jefferson Airplane, Sly and the Family Stone (RIP), Hendrix, the Woodstock soundtrack, and such. Most of it I really liked. I also got into punk and new wave in the 70s and 80s. Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Devo, the B-52s, and such. Also listened to a fair bit of college radio when I was involved with my college radio station, and kept listening to some current music all the way through until a few years ago.

I pretty much like most every type of music. As a kid I listened to a lot of Motown and Yacht Rock (Mom) and old country (Dad). As a teen, I listened to mostly 70s and early 80s classic rock, early 80s alternative, punk rock and heavy metal (except when at the skating rink which was all 70s and 80s dance music and early rap) I thought 80s pop was “too mainstream”. Now it’s fun to listen to the 80s pop, I guess it’s just nostalgia.

I absolutely love classic soul music. Nina Simone, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Mahalia Jackson. That was my mom’s favorite genre that I’ve grown appreciation for in my early 20’s. My son who is 24 loves 70’s European Disco & 80’s synth which is Perry cool considering we always listened to 90’s hip hop & hard rock in the car.

I was born in '65. I listened to all of my parents records as a teen -- all sorts of 40s, 50s and 60s music. It was a great introduction to various styles that began a lifelong love of music. And I've discovered so much wonderful music in every decade that I've lived since. Genres be damned. I love both 'the oldies' and lots of the new music.

Yes! The first time I ever called in a song request was to our local oldies station, 97.3 KBSG, and I requested Dizzy by Tommy Roe. Love that song. Stand by Me was my favorite movie and so I went and bought the soundtrack. And then went and bough The Turtles, Four Seasons, Mamas and the Papas, The Cowsills, The Hollies and Leslie Gore.

I love oldies! Doo-wop is such a sentimental joyride for me. It takes me back to when my mom would listen to 1110 AM KRLA in the car, everywhere we went. I also love jazz, all different types from avant garde, to straight ahead jazz. I also absolutely love hardcore punk rock and jam bands. The day Jerry Garcia died, we went and saw the Circle Jerks play in Denver.y buddy and I were the only two people there in the dye! Talked to Keith Morris after the show too. He's a friend of an old friend of mine. I had never met him before that night though.

I think we were like most generations in that we listened to the music of our grandparents, parents, and modern music. It was 1925-49 Big Band and crooners from the small atomic age lucite radio in the grandparents' kitchen, Steppenwolf, Carol King, Janis Joplin, Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline, Elvis and everything from the '50s and 60s from my (Silent and Boomer) parents' record and 8-track collection, and Willie, Waylon and the rest of Outlaw Country (who used to play nearby all the time as we were in Texas) along with their AM Top 40 from their clock radio on the nightstand. I moved to Priest, Scorpions, Maiden, original Van Halen, and Ozzy, etc. throughout middle and high school before beginning to move back toward my roots after hearing an interview with Ratt guitarist Warren DiMartini, who said he relaxed with jazz. Now my playlist is laced with all of the above mixed with STP, Black Pumas, Vince Guaraldi (Charlie Brown music), Sergio Mendes, early Black Eyed Peas, Chris Cornell, Myles Kennedy, and a slew of classical and easy listening from the 1950s-1960s. Don't even get me started on Christmas music. My 2007 iPod Nano still cranks out classic Christmas music from the 1920s to 1986, or whenever "Christmas in Hollis" and "Santa Claus and His Old Lady" hit the airwaves.

My parents were both around for WWII, and my dad actually fought in it-- landed in Normandy a month after D-Day and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. Growing up, the radio in the kitchen was frequently tuned to a big bands station. Consequently, I've seen the current incarnation of the Glenn Miller Orchestra live twice, and will see them every time they return to my area. I also absolutely hate country music except for some from the 70s/80s, again thanks to what my mom would play on the kitchen radio. I don't like it enough to go see it performed live, but there's a little in my iTunes library.

When I was in high school in the late 80s I brought my Walkman everywhere and only had 1 tape: Led Zeppelin IV. By the time I graduated the tape was worn out. In college it was nothing but 70s: Fleetwood Mac, the eagles , Steve miller band, Styx, etc. Two albums got me caught up: nirvana nevermind and Greene day dookie. But to this day, I’m typically 10 years behind with regard to music.

In the streaming era I learned that I mostly don't care about radio music. Dr Demento, my mother's music from her homeland, and my time in the marching band really got my into different sounds.

I think her love comes from the fact that when Jersey Boys was running, my sister, mom, grandmother, and I did a "girls day", and I enjoyed the show so much i bought a CD. She must have heard that music so much from me, that it was just an engraved memory, so was added to her Playlist. But it always makes me smile that when we are together and one of their songs comes on, she doesn't just change the song, instead she sings and sometimes dances along. Old music doesn't mean bad music.

Yeah, I started in middle school with hair metal in '89, but by '92, I had done a complete 180 and started listening to folk. A year after that, it was classic rock, psychedelic rock, and the Grateful Dead. While everyone was listening to Grunge and hard rock, I grown out of the loud stuff and just did my own thing. Luckily, I found my crowd of Deadheads in college, and didn't feel so different from everyone else.

My interests included older stuff, but I also wanted my MTV! My parents were Silent Gen, so I got into their record collection, too. I got into 50s doo-wop partly due to Happy Days. I got into the Beatles due to the wave of nostalgia after John Lennon was shot (I was in 7th grade). I was into older folky stuff like Cat Stevens and Joni Mitchell. But I was into 80s music, too. I got home from summer camp just in time for day 2 of MTV. Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, Eurythmics, Squeeze, The Knack, Sparks, Warren Zevon, Violent Femmes, Yaz.

by the time i was a teenager mid 80s i didn’t listen to pop music. apart from the smiths. i got into reggae and still am. with a smattering of folk music. mainly british and british folk rock. don’t feel nostalgic for 80s music really. hated 90s music and still do.
