I have a bike I purchased from Costco a few years ago with a King Meter display.
it is a 750w hub motor and 15Ah 48v battery.
I would like to change the display and the controler to have features like usb phone charging and more controle over the bike.
I am just looking for information on doing this
thank you

A better idea is to get a small triangle frame bag meant for small items like keys and such and stick a 20 dollar USB battery bank in it. Bob's you uncle. Twenty bucks.

I just did this on my wife's bike. So, if you are just looking for a USB charger, you can add an additional battery to your ebike. Buy a 48 volt battery that has a USB port, then run a long charging cord to where you hold your phone. You will need a dual battery discharge converter and a few connectors (15 minute DIY).
If you want to do a full change out on the controller, make sure you get the operating information off the old controller. If your old controller is rated for 15 amps, make sure your new controller is rated for 15 amps or you can damage the motor.
Find a motor controller that has a display with it. I just changed my wife's motor controller for $40 USD. Make sure you have a voltmeter that can ohm out wires. My wife's wire colors did not match the controllers color scheme. Make sure your motor is brushless etc. you want to make sure it is compatible. I have to buy a new 9 pin wire for the motor.
In some cases you cannot just buy the controller. Your display make not read or work with your new controller. My wife's display is proprietary to that specific controller. Hence, why I bought a controller with a display in a package.

Or get a small triangle bag meant for keys and the like and stick a 20 dollar battery bank in it.

You need to find out the exact model of your controller and find a compatible head unit (they are not interchangeable) with the features you want.
Also, keep in mind an e-bike in Toronto just caught fire in the train and e-bikes were banned in the trains because of it. The source of the fire was the USB port as a point of ingress of water.

from my understanding the volts going to the display are so low it would barely charge a phone at all anyways. not I'm not well versed in all ebike stuff. But I do know my lectric display runs like max 4 volts or something. And that just doesnt cut it/.

Its doable. You may not even have to change controllers as many controllers have several display options, some with USB and other goodies. Finding out more about the controller is a good starting point, then look for it for sale and see what display choices there are, then find just the display.
