Do you think it’s immoral for people who will never work to use NHS services?

Tax isn’t a savings account; it’s like insurance. If I pay in and get to the end of my life having never had a house fire, I don’t get to demand money back from the insurers. If I get to the end of my life having never needed cancer treatment, I don’t get to demand money back. Same as with social care/warm home/pension; people talk about having paid in all their life & never taken a penny in benefits. Good for them. They should think themselves lucky they didn’t suffer ill health/poor mental health/fraud that might’ve prevented them being in that valuable situation. It shouldn’t mean they get to give their home to their kids and tax payers like me pay for their nursing care. I want my tax to go to people whose ill health or circumstances have meant they weren’t able to build a nest egg. People who worked in low paid jobs that me or my kids haven’t wanted to do but have needed people to do. People who have suffered a lifetime of poor health, or have been left financially vulnerable, or who weren’t given a leg up in the first place. If you need the NHS, use it. Take responsibility for your own health where you can by not adding in toxic substances where possible, eating as well as you can and being as proactive with your health as you can, but I’ll happily pay for anyone who needs it and celebrate if I end up on the right side of the equation, as it will mean I haven’t had poor health. I have had 3 children, so I’ve used the NHS for pregnancy care & childbirth, as well as the education system for 18 years.
