[Times column] Jeremy Clarkson: “I don’t mind prostate checks — beats being dead”

Jeremy Clarkson recently underwent a medical exam (likely the kind of physical examination a person might get before starting work in certain occupations) at his own expense and decided to write about that experience. Here’s a preview:
“My most recent [medical] came along last week and it was eight solid hours of thoroughness. Much of that, naturally, was spent in an MRI Polo mint, and to take my mind off the constant banging, I started to have a little think. And something weird occurred to me.” 😅
(Usual disclaimers apply since his column appears in The Sunday Times.)

For those wondering where the connection to cars is within his column, he wrote this paragraph as part of a larger point he tried to make:
“In motoring journalism, there is no earthly reason why you would ever spend the day destroying a car’s clutch by seeing how fast it can go from 0 to 60. Nobody’s interested in that kind of thing any more. But the lads do, because it’s fun.”

What lads is he referring to?

Just young men in general.
