Well yeah, they made it a felony to have your gun stolen via improper storage- but if all someone took was a high-point, they could be just looking at a misdemeanor, since it wasn’t worth enough.
Just imagine getting a longer sentence than the guy who took your gun because you had your gun stolen

No where in this bill does it charge the owner for improper storage if a theft occurs.

OP is talking about the current state where the theft of a cheap firearm is a petty offense, and improper storage is a Class 2 misdemeanor.

I just read over CRS 18-12-114.
“The firearm must be in a locked safe or secure container that a reasonable person would believe is secure, and minors or ineligible individuals cannot access the unlocking mechanism”
Does that mean I can use a biometric lock on a door, and then argue the entire bedroom, or even closet, is a “secure container”?

I would think locking your house is good enough, as that's the way we secure the keys for our two-ton kinetic energy death machines.
