Anyone have the modernized FN High Power? Is it worth it? Can it hang with modern pistols?

If so how is it? Can it hang with modern 9s or is it inherently obsolescent? The 17 round flush magazine seems cool. Does it come automatically with the magazine disconnect delete?
Shopping around for a good modern 9. At the moment I have a full sized M&P 2. I have a P365XL for carry. Looking for something that feels more 1911 like and feels like it has a soul. Some of these modern pistols feel a bit soulless. I just like 1911 eros too.
Also very interested in the DD H9. Looks like it has 1911 ergos with the benefits of a modern striker fired gun. But if I was to go all in on one I'd like a thumb safety. Also would rather have tritium sights than fiber. Also hoping for a full size option one day as well as the carry sized option. Also there is a total lack of holster support for it where as safariland makes high power holsters.
I have tried Glock and the P320. I hate Glocks and the P320... Yikes. M&P 2 is it for now when it comes to full sized.

You might want to look at the CZ 75 (Shadow 2, Compact, Carry, etc) as an alternative. They're basically just a high power that was copied on the other side of the iron curtain and coevolved over the years.

I’ve shot it. It’s a heavy steel gun. It shoots soft. The modern one does not have the mag disconnect and it can be removed from older ones.
The two big downsides are the less than stellar trigger for a single action only compared to modern options and lack of mounting for optics/lights. Both of these can be solved by spending more money. Apex and Cylinder and Slide sell trigger parts. A few companies do optics cuts, but MK3 Firearms is the most famous and also does trigger jobs and has the best looking light rail.
Girsan makes optic cut hi power clones with light rails too.
I’ve been wanting to get one milled for an Acro footprint

I'm not as concerned with electronic accessories. Moreso with reliability and ruggedness.
DD doesn't feel like a 1911 in the hand? Interesting. I've been trying to find a store that has one to hold before I buy. Still good to know that you would recommend it anyway though.

I'm almost in your boat...I don't really care how it feels in the hand until they put a thumb safety on it.

I emailed DD and was told they have plans to turn the H9 into a family of pistols but did not clarify what specifically it meant. I was asking for full size or thumb safety. So they might come out with those options one day.
marksman1023@reddit
Well then we should definitely keep asking for manual safety and fullsize options so they go "Hey, we need to do this, these people won't stop calling us"

Please be my guest. I did my part with email but I'll ask again on X. I would love to motivate them to offer these sooner. Perhaps they aren't currently happy with the H9 sales but they are offering it in a very specific package that won't appeal to everyone.

I get why they did - honestly it would be the configuration I'd try first - but c'mon, guys, shoehorn a 1911-style safety on there.

Not sure where you're located but my local Scheels had a DD H9 in stock last time I was in. Eau Claire, WI.

Good to know. I am in Minnesota and my local sheels did not have one. Also check a mom and pop and fleet farm.

Handguns peaked and plateaued with the original high power.
Add a rail and optics cut and you have peak modern pistol, the same as everything else.

Only concern of mine is the exposed hammer TBH.
marksman1023@reddit
Why would an exposed hammer be a concern?
One of the things I miss about carrying a TDA handgun is I could trap the hammer with my thumb on reholster.
RoSearch1776@reddit (OP)
It's a failure point in extreme conditions. Debris could block the hammer. Or ice. Any exposed mechanism is technically a potential failure point.
Mountain_Man_88@reddit
Why not a 1911 or a 2011?
RoSearch1776@reddit (OP)
Well, as much as I love the 1911 I don't love 7/8 rounds per mag. It's my favorite but I want a modern combat pistol in 9mm. Why not 2011? Combination of price and it seems like they are meant to be more competition guns than "combat guns". If you have suggestions for a combat grade 2011 that costs 1500 or less I'm all ears. I still want ruggedness and reliability and it seems like 2011s need more tuning and maintenance than other options. Could be wrong though.
I was also slightly opposed to the single action because of the exposed hammer when comparing to the H9. But the FN has an exposed hammer too so it's a wash there.
