Shun the non-believers - BEHOLD! POTHOLE REPAIR!
Posted by sharknado523@reddit | Dallas | View on Reddit | 53 comments
I filed this initial ticket on June 1. It was reported fixed on June 3. I finally drove through to check on it on June 7 and I am so happy to see how beautiful this looks. Please, folks, just file a ticket. Help make the city more beautiful. It’s not just potholes, you can report faded signs or signs with graffiti, you can report confusing, intersections, or traffic lights with bulbs that are out! You can report speed bumps or traffic markings that have faded or damaged paint! There is so much available to us to beautify our city and make it even better than it already is!
This pothole was in the middle lane on NB Lemmon at 5610 Lemmon Rd just north of the intersection with N Versailles. It was there for, truly, so long and kept getting worse and worse. I recently started using 311 heavily. Like I said…48 hours guys.

Holy shit! I think I just found religion. It was inside us the entire time.
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
So they only really currently cover Dallas City Limits as far as Dallas 311 goes but if you file a ticket they may refer it to the appropriate governing body

Point taken
BaPef@reddit
Soon they'll be back and in greater numbers
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Report them!
civil_beast@reddit
Does this also work for sand people?
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
I'm not sure I understand the question.
civil_beast@reddit
/u/bapef’s comment was a fairly recognizable quote from “Star Wars : a new hope,” and I was merely responding to that
fjzappa@reddit
See if you can get them to do something about LBJ between Central and I-30.
Tohac42@reddit
There’s even an easy app to report through! Dallas 311
YaGetSkeeted0n@reddit
I hope they bring the rest of the request types into the app at some point. There are still some things like traffic signal outages that require a phone call. Usually pretty prompt about picking up but navigating an IVR menu and describing everything to a person is always slower than just typing it out in an app.
DowntownSalt2758@reddit
Yes. The 311 app works. I’ve used it to got 4 potholes in my neighborhood repaired over the last 2 years. We drove by one recently and a family member even said “did you get that filled?” Yes, yes I did indeed! (I’m known to hate potholes!) Usually takes the city 1-2 weeks to repair. One hole I had to report twice but it works. Report the potholes and get ‘em fixed!
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
I do Uber on the side and I got so tired of all the potholes and faded signs and things and trees growing over street lights that I would see that I started researching ways to try to make it better and I spend most of my time within Dallas. In the last 17 months, I’ve driven over 100,000 miles.
Over the last four weeks, I’ve actually started reporting the stuff that I see and I am blown away at how easily it seems like it’s getting done. I wish I had done this sooner and I wish more people knew about this lol
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
That’s what I’m talking about. I was so excited. I forgot to mention it in the post lol I reported it through the 311 app
YaGetSkeeted0n@reddit
See the non believers by the path, non believers by the path, non believers by the path
311’s gonna set those sinners free
Substantial_Ant_2662@reddit
There are potholes in Dallas so deep you can see the rebar…
BBQandBitcoin@reddit
Agreed. A patch is ok. But the streets seriously need stripping and relaying.
Going down Inwood feels like you’re off-roading, Riverfront is atrocious! Others Midway, Walnut Hill, Royal Ln., Lovers Ln., etc
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Report them!
stopthefkincar@reddit
I really appreciate an update from that other post. I really didn't think it was that easy and I learned that theres an app. For sure gonna be making tons of requests.
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Yes that is why I posted this one because it seems like they were so many people who did not believe me
So I was like oh this is a perfect example of one that was really gnarly and that they literally fixed in two days
FunRutabaga24@reddit
Shuuuuuuuun
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Thank you for understanding the origin of my headline
mjrballer20@reddit
Mods just need to pin the contact info for road repairs so we don't get so many posts. Good job on OP for reporting
TxDOT for state roads & highways

Dallas 311 report an issue

sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Yeah I know I've been on a little bit of a kick lately with how excited I am about 311 but I can appreciate that if I keep doing this it's going to be really annoying so I'll dial it back obviously LOL I just thought this one was pretty awesome because that's a really gnarly pothole and I'm actually really proud that I saw it avoided it and the city turned around and got it fixed so quickly!!!
SamHenryCliff@reddit
Making Dallas better is a wonderful thing to be excited about and recognizing that hard working people are hustling on taxpayer money is absolutely worth celebrating! Your enthusiasm is the good kind of infectious. If 10 more people participate (by end of today I’ll get the app to join in) then it has a domino effect of positivity.
There’s always a chance the system could falter, or a reorganization damages the ability for it to continue at such a high success rate, but “get while the gettin’ is good” works for me!
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
And by the way in case you were curious about us hitting some kind of a natural point where they ask us to stop, in the last month I think I’ve logged 50 tickets and so far nobody has told me to fuck off, even though I was genuinely certain somebody was gonna be like dude you need to get a life. There’s one guy Marcus, who works late night And I know he probably recognizes my voice, name, and number by now. I’m waiting for the day. He goes dude what are you doing? Just drive around looking for shit??? 🤣🤣🤣
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
If there’s one thing I have learned about corporate America, it’s that nobody believes anything unless there is a backlog of tickets.
If anything people actually reporting stuff other than loud animals and missed trash pick up through 311 will just give the teams that need them the resources they need to actually solve those problems. They probably go to the city every year and ask for more money and they say well how many tickets do you have and they say well we don’t have any tickets but it’s because nobody calls us and so they say then why would we give you more money?
But if everybody just takes literally 10 minutes a month to report a couple of things around their neighborhood just think how much better off we would all be???
I reported a stop sign tonight that had graffiti on it. It was in a very low income neighborhood. I can’t give them everything but fuck it don’t they at least deserve a nice stop sign? It’s the literal least we can do. 🤣
Catullus13@reddit
Great. Now can they take down all the cones on midway for street repair that's been done for 2 weeks?
Crunk_Tuna@reddit
nope. Those are part of the street now
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Hey you!
Crunk_Tuna@reddit
Guess why?
Chicken Thigh
BamaPhils@reddit
If it was concrete paving, especially something like a full depth replacement, it has to set for a while. Downside of concrete paving. If it’s asphalt or something, then yeah that’s ridiculous
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
What are the cross streets? Because I know a lot of that construction is actually Carrollton.
Catullus13@reddit
It's like Midway and NWH. And Midway and Royal (that's likely not completely finished yet). Then I feel like there's another Midway north of Northhaven. Midway and NWH has been done for awhile now
SnooHabits3911@reddit
Hit Inwood Rd next.
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
I actually reported a serious street repair needed on Inwood and it was marked as completed however it wasn’t actually completed so I’m gonna get photos because I didn’t put photos last time and I’m gonna call 311 and be like hey here’s the ticket number y’all said you fixed this, but you didn’t. If I remember correctly, it was near the intersection of Inwood and Denton Drive in front of an auto care place.
SnooHabits3911@reddit
Inwood south of mockingbird to Harry Hines is so bad. I’ve heard it would be a nightmare to shut the road down to fix it but damn. It’s a nightmare now.
A_Homestar_Reference@reddit
in rowlett there was some FDC pipes that were leaking like crazy all over the sidewalk; I noticed it never got fixed over the course of a month or so, so I reported it and it seemed to get fixed within a couple of weeks. Crazy how this stuff works.
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Yeah at the end of the day a lot of people don't realize that when you pay lower taxes it means there are less inspectors to go around and check stuff. You fix that by doing a few seconds of work every now and then and filing a ticket or making a phone call.
PossiblyAChipmunk@reddit
What devilry is this?!? You must be a witch!
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Muahahahaha
gr0uchyMofo@reddit
I need to create some tickets for areas on exits where the asphalt has mushroomed up against a concrete transition.
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Keep in mind that if it's part of a highway exit you may actually have to call TXDOT rather than 311
alexistejas__@reddit
This is going to be back in less than 6 months.
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Then I’ll file another ticket lol
alexistejas__@reddit
lol I wish I had your free tome
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Dude I don't have free time, I'm in crippling debt and I drive for Uber in addition to managing a full-time career. I have driven my car over 100,000 miles in the last 17 months.
alexistejas__@reddit
Sounds like poor decision making on my end.
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Huh
gr0uchyMofo@reddit
Did you report this to TX DOT?
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
No, this is a local road so I reported it to Dallas 311 through the app
12_yo_d@reddit
That’s a very good photoshop
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
It’s not photoshop lol
