Bookem50@reddit
Agreed, and nice set-up. What cabinet is that and where can I get it?
shaffington@reddit (OP)
🤝
Husky 24 gauge goes on sale at Home Depot during holidays. I have a few and none have shown signs that they can't handle the weight of brass (yet)
Fauropitotto@reddit
Mine failed. Woke up to an absolute mess on the floor when they collapsed.
Just check for flex regularly, cause they're no where near as strong as it appears.
hw999@reddit
I wonder if a 1/4 sheet of plywood would have saved it?
Fauropitotto@reddit
Well, I ended up using a hammer to bend everything back into "place" then screws and 1/2inch plywood to basically make sure it would have to tear the metal entirely to fold again.
I don't know if it would save it the next time, but for now heavy stockpiles go on reinforced shelves or the floor, but I'm running out of space. A good problem to have, but, I'd rather have that problem than have to clean up that kind of mess again.
shaffington@reddit (OP)
Well... Damn. Very good to know. Mine haven't flexed or budged at all but I try to distribute the weight evenly. Curious, did they fail at the joint or the actual metal bent in on itself?
Killertofu280@reddit
That second shelf from the top looks a little sketchy to me.
Hot-Win2571@reddit
Yup, I was admiring the bends in the reflections of the shelves.
shaffington@reddit (OP)
Glad I posted on here ... I've been impressed that it hasn't collapsed already but it's probably a matter of time and now I have a new woodworking project 😁
BladeDoc@reddit
Every one of those shelves seems very slightly curved. Might want to put in some 2X2 supports in the middle of each one.
shaffington@reddit (OP)
Haha you're not wrong
that's why I did inventory/picture day ... Needed to recalibrate weight and reorganize. I think the only solution is to shoot more
Killertofu280@reddit
Beautiful otherwise. 🍻

🤝
Fauropitotto@reddit
Metal bent in on itself. Also tore through the slot in the sheet metal that the tiny silver hook fits into.
I ended up hammering it back into shape, then reinforcing it with some wood on the bottom...but no trust on the weight bearing capacity of these things.
shaffington@reddit (OP)
Very good to know, gracias!
gwhh@reddit
which model of cabinet is that?

American reloading is your friend as well!
shaffington@reddit (OP)
They definitely are, Natchez and powder valley have treated me well also
Rough_Enthusiasm_351@reddit
Try Brunoshooter for powder
shaffington@reddit (OP)
Thank you! Have not tried them yet but will check out their offerings this summer
Rough_Enthusiasm_351@reddit
Usually $50-60 under powder valley prices on 8 pounders

All a fellar wants
shaffington@reddit (OP)
Definitely my happy place
BangBangPing5Dolla@reddit
Wait you guys are organizing your ammo and don't have precarious stacks of boxes arranged vaguely by caliber.
philippe404@reddit
Spreadsheets
shaffington@reddit (OP)
Spreadsheets are the way 😆
annonimity2@reddit
I don't have enough so I just have 2 50cal cans for rifle and pistol.
BigWillyTX@reddit
What's the point of locking plastic ammo cans?
Unusual_Practice_509@reddit
Kids, nosy house guests, etc. And if someone has reloading components like OP, those are more fragile and volatile than assembled ammunition. Further, if someone has black powder in their ammo storage that's a very good reason to keep it locked up.
shaffington@reddit (OP)
🎯
BigWillyTX@reddit
I agree.you ought to keep your storage locked but why individual cans...
DROK14931@reddit
I started using individual cans for some items for improved humidity control for longer term storage on items not in a safe, easier to move if needed, organization and efficiency.
shaffington@reddit (OP)
Kids were younger when I used the small locks but have since just locked the whole cabinet and the room they are in. The little locks prevented little hands from finding poisonous choking hazards.
Secretninja35@reddit
Paranoia. It's rampant in the gun community.
thegrumpymechanic@reddit
Well, that cabinet is way fancier than my wooden box.
Would also add, between potential tariffs, 2 wars, and who knows what's up next, now may be the "cheap" in "buy cheap, stack deep" for a lot of newer gun owners.
Just takes one pandemic to make the decimal point move on ammoseek.
CandidCompetition780@reddit
Yup. I’ve been stocking up. Prices are going to go up and I doubt they ever come back down.
shaffington@reddit (OP)
I but bulk components during holidays, any time I see free shipping or no hazard pay, I'll grab a bunch. It also allows me to shoot a ton for training and competitions without ever feeling "low" on any key calibers
