Tracking my build digitally — curious how others are doing it

Working on my current project car made me realise I had no good way to track what I was doing — parts ordered, time spent, costs, before/after pics.
I ended up building a tool called Wrenchr to help with this. You can log tasks, add photos, and keep a full timeline of your work.
I’d love feedback from people who are also deep into car projects. It’s free during beta.
If you're up for trying it, here’s a quick feedback form:

Curious how others are keeping track of their builds — do you just rely on memory or use spreadsheets/notes?

I just wander out into the garage and see what needs cussing at next.
I’d prefer not to know the cost.

This is the way

How do you get the list of cars under your name?

Just edit your user flair in the group!

That sounds more like it🤣 feel free to give Wrenchr a go, you don’t have to include costs if you don’t want to

I don’t track half of that shit, it’s not a business so no reason for me to know cost or time spent as long as I enjoy myself.

Yeah... When you start breaking down the costs and the time involved, you then start to realise that you probably should've just bought a new car.
Ignorance is bliss

Dude... all week you've been hawking this app. I budget using my banking apps and my brain, I use a notebook for what needs to be done, and I use my camera role to keep track of what I've done.

There's no way id ever do anything like that. I block out those expenditures like a trauma victim and intentionally forget how much I spend lol, I definitely dont want to know. I do have a word doc to keep track of projects, but it's just action items to cross off.

I tracked things RELIGIOUSLY until I got to the point of spending more on my project than I did on the car to start it. Easier to just sort of. forget..and be blissfully ignorant.

I lose shit because ADD, then I reorder it, and find the part I lost just as the new one decides to show up. Then I break stuff and have to reorder it, and order the wrong part the first time, so I have to return that part too, then I do the online return and it sits in the garage for another couple of weeks before I get it boxed up and shipped.
Then I repeat the cycle. I have 3 blocks sitting outside that need to go to the scrapyard. Plus the internals and heads of one of those blocks. And I currently have an oil pump and an electric oil temperature gauge that need to be returned to Summit and 1.3 rocker arms that need to be returned to Speedway. And lots of little miscellaneous parts and leftovers that will never be used, but sit on my shelf for years.

I use a google sheet to track projects and maintenance, however your tool has the distinct advantage of photo integration which is VERY convenient.
I've made an account and will try using it for a while to see how I like it, so far it seems to do everything I need it to do.
You might add the option of "hiding" the total project cost, I don't really want to think about how much money I'm about to dump into my project truck.

Great to hear you’re using it, I also really appreciate the feedback. Use and abuse it and I’ll take notes of everything to change in future updates 👍🏻
SueKam@reddit
Well, it's now giving me "invalid project ID" errors when trying to veiw my projects.
ciancole1@reddit (OP)
That issue should now be solved
SueKam@reddit
That was quick, yep it's working now.

Google docs/sheets

Feel free to give my site a chance, might help you out more than google docs. Always open to feedback 😁

Is this an open source project?
ciancole1@reddit (OP)
Not currently, just something I’ve been working on for a while to help track some builds
rudbri93@reddit
memory and notebooks. i use notebooks as the white board of what needs to be done because im too lazy to buy a real white board. every now and then i make up a list of where the car sits now and whats been done. I put that stuff in a folder and the front of the folder is maintenance space. I dont keep track of costs.

I’ve used whiteboards in the past, always get quite cluttered and I struggle to remember to add things when I’m on the go 🤷🏻♂️
