It’s still a bit expensive even at $80k. The Ranger Raptor starts around $20k less.
SpaceghostLos@reddit
I dont understand why Broncos are so expensive.
Ihathreturd@reddit
Name every single vehicle in the US that does what the Bronco does.
I'll help you start. 1. 2.
SpaceghostLos@reddit
Jeep
Truck
Tremor package expedition
Bronco sport
ShadowNick@reddit
It's the same reason why soccer moms pay $100k+ for GMC Yukons when 3 to 4 years ago they went for mid to high 60k to 85k . It's because they "need" them so they pay whatever price tag they want for their mall crawlers.

HerefortheTuna@reddit
They came out at 29k or so and now add 10k for the same car haha
SpaceghostLos@reddit
For real. Like what?
TopHatTony11@reddit
The base bronco was garbage. Open differentials, useless tires and no equipment. Wasn’t even worth the 29k.
HerefortheTuna@reddit
I still love seeing a classic OJ model though
Weak-Specific-6599@reddit
Because people pay it. Same as everything else.
TheRealCVDY@reddit
the fact that they can easily mark down a vehicle $20k.. 20 THOUSAND DOLLARS.. shows just how fucked the car industry is and how greedy they are.
they’re not in it for the consumer.
WigginIII@reddit
No publicly traded company is in it for the consumer.
Crapitron@reddit
What private companies out there sell moderately priced cars?
an_actual_lawyer@reddit
Slate is gonna try!
DickKravens@reddit
🤮
TheRealPizza@reddit
OP mentioned it starts at 20k less than the Bronco Raptor. Not that it was marked down by 20k
TheRealCVDY@reddit
woof.. I see that now. I thought he was insinuating $20k less than ‘25 MSRP and so did most everyone else
what a useless thread lol
TheRealPizza@reddit
Haha I almost made that mistake too. But 10k is still a steep drop on the Bronco
Yankee831@reddit
Ford has a 3.5% net margin over the past 10 years… that’s not greedy. BMW is the highest with line 7.6%… the making cars is expensive and volatile.
TheRealCVDY@reddit
if they have a 3.5% margin how can they reduce the price of this vehicle $20k?
TenguBlade@reddit
Because the price you see at the dealer is not the price Ford sells it to the dealer at.
Ftpini@reddit
Because net margin is after all the accounting games they play to reduce their taxes. Their gross margin is closer to 15% and that value will be much higher on a high end vehicle like a bronco raptor.
Ftpini@reddit
Net, as in after reducing by all the money they reinvest into themselves. Gross margin is a much better measure of overall greed. Fords average gross margin over the last decade was just shy of 15%.
Salty-Dog-9398@reddit
This is wrong. Gross margin doesn’t include operating costs like overhead and accounting employees. Operating income and net income are proper measures that take into account the amortized costs of building factories, doing R&D and other stuff. These are not just accounting tricks and represent real costs of delivering vehicles to market.
Typically auto manufacturers are compared by EBIT, which includes depreciation and amortization, but excludes interest (because leverage and terms of debt vary) and taxes (again tax rate varies).
Ftpini@reddit
The fact that can spend that money without counting towards their taxable income doesn’t change the fact that it was profit before they went and spent it.
Drauren@reddit
They’re there to make money….
TheRealCVDY@reddit
sure, but clearly this trim of the Ranger is far more expensive than it could have/should have been.
how many brand new cars on the market right now can be marked down $20k and still be sold on the market at a profit?
Drauren@reddit
Isn’t this fairly normal for American trucks?
Zrepsilon@reddit
Supply and demand is not greed.
Marchiavelli@reddit
Supply and demand at its core is greed (if we equate greed to acting purely in one’s own self interest). Which to say it isn’t a negative by any means. I firmly believe in letting the invisible hand dictate true equilibrium price, rather than letting outside forces artificially manipulate it one way or another
Zrepsilon@reddit
Greed is not acting in one’s self interest, that is selfish.
My point really is, how is greed factored into the equation here if all dealers are doing is setting the price at what someone will pay? It takes two to tango. How else would we have them set price? Some artificially lower number? All that happens there is someone scalps it and flips it if they understand the market demand better than the dealer.
The dealer isn’t “greedy” they’re following economics 101. I’d argue the greed is actually the consumer who wants the vehicle so badly they’re willing to pay the adm. The value of the dollar got decimated by our covid money printing. Those that had property and investments had their purchasing power protected. Anything that didn’t have a corresponding increase in price now probably looks “cheap” relatively speaking to them.
SAR_89@reddit
Not exclusively but it’s certainly part of the equation
Zrepsilon@reddit
I’ll continue playing devils advocate here (I hate ADM)
What about pricing something at the level of supply and equilibrium is “greed” how is it part of that equation?
Motorsport-@reddit
I feel like everything these days is a Veblen good. Need more competition to increase supply and lower prices- but I guess that only applies to Nissan Sentras.
HerefortheTuna@reddit
Man I spent all week trying to buy a 4Runner and I really hate car salesmen. They didn’t even try to sell me just got mad that I had cash and knew my shit.
BattlePrune@reddit
Just don’t tell them you’ll buy cash. Either go ahead with agreeing with financing, ask if it can be repayed early without penalties, then pay in full first month. Ar pull put last minute out of financing deal and ask the same price in cash.
If you’re giving away that you’re a cash buyer right at the get go you’re putting yourself at a disadvantage
SavageryRox@reddit
Don't even need to ask if it can be repayed early without penalties. Just read the paper that you are signing.
Girl_you_need_jesus@reddit
I don’t get it, they’re lowering prices and you’re upset?
kilertree@reddit
If you don't mind possibly committing tax fraud the Raptor R qualifies for a 30k tax break for farming equipment over 6,000 pounds.
hotredsam2@reddit
I Agee, the ranger raptor is almost good value, but I think the market for the Broncos is a lot bigger (ie. moms) so they can charge more.
whan@reddit
This - it was always too expensive. At $70k it’d be maybe a closer thought, but realistically I think in high $60k range would be much more compelling
FWIW when I had bought my Gen 2 2018 F150 Raptor, I paid $61k (mid trim 801a package)
ishliss@reddit
2024 Bronco owners punching air right now
TopHatTony11@reddit
Honestly they deserve it if you look at the prices of old stock and slightly used Raptors sitting on lots. I’ve seen them in the low 60’s with not many miles on them… it’s fucking tempting.
oskanta@reddit
Maybe I’m just coping as an owner of a 2.7L base trim with the Sasquatch package add-on, but I can’t for the life of me see how the Raptor is worth its premium. Mine was $39900 new in Jan 2022 ($45k today adjusting for inflation) and would list for mid to upper 30s on the used market at 15k miles.
The main upgrade is that the raptor gets the 3.0L ecoboost V6 which makes 418hp/440lb-ft torque compared to the 2.7L ecoboost V6 available on lower trims which makes 330hp/415lb-ft torque. More power is always nice, but I’ve never once felt that my Bronco is lacking for power, especially when off-roading.
The other major mechanical upgrade is the improved suspension which I’m definitely a little jealous of, but still you’d have to be doing some pretty extreme off-roading for it to be needed and for the moderate off-roading I do and day-to-day street driving, the Sasquatch pack suspension feels great.
Besides that, you’ve got 37” tires vs 35” on the Sasquatch. I don’t even consider this a strict upgrade, it’s just a matter of preference. The raptor is also a good 7” wider which imo has more negatives than positives.
If they had put a pretty sounding V8 in there, I’d get it. But it seems like it’s just a slightly better version of the Bronco I bought for (inflation adjusted) $45k new, but nearly double the price. The used prices are nearly double as well.
Mimical@reddit
I just want the 2.7 with the manual Transmission. Don't let the budget departments estimate 12 million dollar development loss stop you Ford!
dpistheman@reddit
I get your take, but there are zero business cases that justify Getrag spending the money to develop a manual that can meet the torque rating of the 2.7L NANO. The best bet would be twisting TREMEC's arm into it and TREMEC is probably still salty that S550 GT350 volumes never hit what they were promised.
SigmaBallsLol@reddit
You seem to have missed what I imagine the main draw for most Raptor (be it the Bronco or the F150) owners - flexing. It has a different enough appearance you can easily tell if it's a Raptor or not, any that's worth the money to them.
ShadowNick@reddit
Skip not worth the 60k, the 50k, or even 40k prices.

Ford has a demand problem.
Larcya@reddit
Everyone who wanted a convertible suv already has one.
So now ford and jeep have to deal with that reality now.
AndroidUser37@reddit
Why is this only a thing for specialist cars? I've never heard "Everyone who wanted a reliable commuter already has one" before. They should be able to maintain some level of steady sales, no?
Larcya@reddit
Because people usually use them as fun weekend cars. Not commuters.
So they get less mileage and are replaced less often.
MozartWillVanish@reddit
Very few people have a Bronco as a “fun weekend” car. I’m sure there are some, but the overwhelming majority are daily drivers. I mean, I can’t prove it but I’m almost certain I’m correct. Lol
SigmaBallsLol@reddit
yeah they're not borderline torture to drive like a Wrangler and have decently sized cargo areas (especially in the 4door model), there's no reason it can't be a family's primary/only car other than the poor gas mileage.
dsac@reddit
As someone who's had to drive both a Wrangler and a Bronco, I'd be hesitant to use the word "fun" for either of them
BootyWizardAV@reddit
my bronco is my daily, and there about 15 other broncos + jeeps in my work's parking lot lol.
Pwnaholic@reddit
Theres dozens of us!
BootyWizardAV@reddit
hell yeah brother
pvtdirtpusher@reddit
Nah man. Lots of people commute in Wranglers and Broncos. My office has a bunch of em. Pass many more on my 100mile round trip commute in SE Michigan
Johns-schlong@reddit
And people are more likely to repair rather than replace a low mileage weekend car in good shape.
Larcya@reddit
Yup. Especially since the weekend car probably costed more than their commuter car.
TookEverything@reddit
People will always need reliable commuters, forever and ever. Everyone has a commute. Not everyone needs an off-roading monster. Hell, 99% of the people who buy specialist cars don’t actually need their capabilities and can do with a reliable commuter instead.
dsac@reddit
Something something walkable cities public transport cycling
Yankee831@reddit
Meh one vehicle to cover both bases is nice if you can afford it. Not like you need to rock crawl to be appreciative of its features. Ranger Raptor might be more of a toy/2nd vehicle though.
If I could afford a Bronco I’d have one. I’d definitely use some it off road but mostly camping, towing my bike, snowboarding, etc. I do that with my Element but it would be a lot more fun and able to go places with my Bronco…
Dammit here I go to the Fire build page to really drive away any dreams.
Yankee831@reddit
They’re pretty much flat for the 1st quarter mostly from discontinuing the Edge and Mustang sales being down. The Bronco was up 35%….
WingerRules@reddit
I'll never buy another Ford again after how many issues my last car had. Literally would be lucky if I could go a few months without a Tow or a bunch of functions on the car like power steering and traction/stability control failing. To top it off they refused to do a buy back.
Ford caused their own demand problem, they're piles of shit.
XSC@reddit
They got too comfortable and greedy after covid and completely forgot their role
Weak-Specific-6599@reddit
What is their role?
Wojtkie@reddit
A manufacturer who hasn’t been challenged, I think
psadjasdiasidhasd@reddit
Bronco sales in May are up over 50% YOY compared to May of last year. Don't think this is a demand problem
Rocklobster376@reddit
Hopefully this starts a chain reaction. It’s absurd that a base bronco 2 door is 10k more than it was just a few years ago
MechMeister@reddit
My dealer has one for $39k, $41k msrp. Automatic is the only option. If they lower it by another $5k i'm nabbing it.
an_actual_lawyer@reddit
The manual is surpassingly smooth and fun to drive
MechMeister@reddit
I will never own another ford with an internal slave cylinder. Horrible design.
Cpt_Kneegrow@reddit
If ford threw a supercharged v8 in the Braptor it would have been one of the most badass SUV’s of all time.
DudeWhereIsMyDuduk@reddit
With some of the new options for the 25s and the price drop, I'd probably be in a Sasquatch Badlands at this point if I didn't absolutely need a vehicle in late '24.
DudeWhereIsMyDuduk@reddit
With some of the new options for the 25s I'd definitely be considering the Bronco a lot more if I was shopping now.
Mre1905@reddit
I really wanted to get one when they first came out. But at 60k, they make 0 sense to me. They looks cool, and unique in the sense that they are a 4 door convertible that can be used as a family hauler but at these prices there are so many better options out there.
HeadOfMax@reddit
How long till I can buy a base maverick hybrid for 22.5 like it originally was?
Mojave_Idiot@reddit
I like the bronco raptor quite a bit but I dunno what I’d do with it.
If I’m dropping 80g on an off road toy it’s not gonna be something like that. More like an LS desert dynamics car or something.
Seamus-Archer@reddit
$80K gets you a fully built Maverick R if you don’t need to be street legal. Bang for buck, UTVs can’t be beat in the desert.
Wojtkie@reddit
But then you’re spending 80k on a maverick which is absurd
Seamus-Archer@reddit
You have to pay to play and they’re a shit ton of fun.
If you can build something that performs better for less money the market will be lining up for them. A decade ago, you had to order a top spec 10 car from somebody like Alumicraft that would run six figures easily for similar performance.
Wojtkie@reddit
I understand that. I just don’t think there’s any configuration of the maverick to be worth 80k
Seamus-Archer@reddit
Try ordering a full custom chassis Maverick R from Alsup, S3, No Limit, etc. and you’ll spend twice that for one in race trim and people line up to buy them. I’m not sure what to tell you other than there’s a market for them, even if it isn’t you.
Wojtkie@reddit
If you had that money, why spend it on a maverick as the base for all the mods?
Seamus-Archer@reddit
Because it’s still the cheapest starting platform to get there. Pick a Pro R instead, I don’t really care.
A top spec UTV is a great platform but if you want it to last while pushing at 10/10 off-road you’ll need to open your wallet and pay to play. If you don’t want to, that’s fine, but I don’t understand why the concept of building a race car and paying for top spec performance seems so foreign on a sub dedicated to presumably car enthusiasts.
Wojtkie@reddit
Yeah so this is way outta my wheelhouse. Idk how a unibody maverick would be a good off-road vehicle. I just don’t understand what niche it’d succeed in
Seamus-Archer@reddit
I’m talking about a Can Am Maverick R, it’s a UTV and a common platform for building race UTVs. I can understand if that was confusing.
Wojtkie@reddit
Ah yeah, I thought the Maverick R you were talking about was a retail trim.
Mojave_Idiot@reddit
If anything that’s been my primary issue with many sxs’s, durability.
The race car that we run in DP4 is an xp4 four seater converted to two with a big ass fuel cell and all aftermarket suspension components and we still break shit even though it’s dog ass slow. We just run race catheters and don’t stop. It’s a strategy.
My personal machine is the oft underrated and always unloved Wildcat XX. Never really had to deal with things breaking on that machine fortunately, which is why I bought it. Also one of the only machines five years ago that actually had a worthwhile stock cage.
Seamus-Archer@reddit
I agree, reliability sucks from the factory if you push them to their limits. Often lacking double shear at pivot points, razor thin wall tubing for the cage, never a gusset in sight, etc. I get they have to hit a price point but it’s frustrating to order a pile of parts as preventative fixes on a brand new car.
Our race X3 has been reliable so far but it’s a full tube chassis and built tougher than it is fast. The top guys we race against are significantly faster with top of the line cars and still deal with reliability issues from time to time.
Those have been pretty reliable in our series, a few guys have had solid luck running them. I have an X3 that’s been solid for me after doing the basic preventative upgrades. It’s never pushed too hard and is a later model year with the better factory cage. For the group rides and light prerunning I do it’s a solid rig.
Mojave_Idiot@reddit
Sure, but I need to keep up with my friends 500+ horsepower LS cars in Glamis. I got a sxs already.
Treesforbleez@reddit
thats it
TookEverything@reddit
Might be time for a trade-in.
Wojtkie@reddit
It’s too expensive
TopHatTony11@reddit
It’s legitimately my favorite thing to drive. Was lucky enough to get a bunch of miles in a couple and I fell in love with it almost immediately.
ZombiePope@reddit
Not surprised. It was ridiculously overpriced compared to the ranger raptor.
peakdecline@reddit
The Bronco Raptor will always be more than the Ranger Raptor because it includes a lot more beef, basically.
The indicator here is the significantly different size tires. Bronco Raptor is on 37s, Ranger Raptor is on 33s.
Bronco Raptor has stronger and longer control arms, stronger CV axles, stronger tie roads, a stronger steering box, a larger rear axle, and more suspension travel (13" vs 10" in front, 14" vs 11" in rear). Bronco Raptor has a 3.1" shock body, the Ranger Raptor has a 2.5" shock body. The Bronco Raptor has a disconnecting front sway bar, the Ranger Raptor does not.
Bronco Raptor gets all the F-150 Raptor PP37 *stuff*, basically. Whereas the Ranger Raptor is quite good but all around much weaker and well... lighter duty.
The Bronco Raptor was overpriced... but I'd say that's more in how it was priced compared to a F-150 Raptor and not the Ranger Raptor. Other than the engine the Ranger Raptor and Bronco Raptor are fairly significantly different from an off-road capability perspective.
ZombiePope@reddit
Huh, thanks for the info, I had no idea! I thought they'd be extremely similar.
peakdecline@reddit
Seems a lot of people do, judging by the second highest upvoted comment here also isn't aware why the Bronco Raptor costs more than the Ranger Raptor.
I think one can both be valid in say that the old pricing was too high... but realistically its a valid and logical reason why the Bronco Raptor costs more than the Ranger Raptor. Its way, way more capable.
Hell, the Bronco Raptor has features in one package even the F-150 Raptor PP37 doesn't get i.e. it combines that trucks suspension but adds a front locking differential and a disconnecting sway bar. Its ALL of Ford's Raptor parts in one package, none of the others are that feature complete.
LegendaryLS3@reddit
The looks of the braptor is so bad to me. The hips just don't look right and they too wide
Drzhivago138@reddit
The giant fender flares remind me of this.

They kind of went the other way and made the Maverick Lobo instead.
