Has anyone stayed at Brooklyn riviera hostel NYC

Hey! I’m heading to NYC soon and looking into hostels — Brooklyn Riviera in Crown Heights caught my eye. It looks super chill and kind of social, which is what I’m hoping for since I’ll be traveling solo.
Has anyone stayed there recently? What’s the vibe like? Is it actually easy to meet people? Also curious if the area feels safe and how the place holds up in terms of cleanliness and comfort.

Stayed 2 years ago. Rustic and nice wibe. Hangout area in the back garden and in the celler with movie nights and card games. A few cockroaches, but they are everywhere in NY. Only few beds for guys. The building is of the old school brownstone house, which were everywhere in Brooklin 100 years ago and not many left.

Wouldn't go as far as saying there aren't many brownstones left. There's a bunch of neighborhoods full of them.

I don't know that one but I stayed at The Local in Long Island City and I'd recommend it.

There are recent reviews on Google and Hostelworld.
I've stayed there, but a few years ago. Note that US residents are not permitted. Bit grimey but cosy vibes and eclectic decor. The owner/manager was interesting. I like the neighborhood, although maybe wouldn't be a first choice for the typical first timer to New York.
There's only about five backpacker hostels in the whole city, all overpriced and this is the cheapest, so it's not like you have too much choice anyway.
