Alternatives to NVidia cards in the future

This is mostly venting:
I believe the rise of open source will be when GPUs would be cheap (DUHH\~). Right now there is virtually only NVidia providing those hardware and because of CUDA, that makes hard to even switch to AMD.
I want to have the freedom the design my "local" AI infrastructure the same way I have freedom to plan a database, web server, devops, etc infrastructure with virtually all open source products from OS to already ready to go Docker containers.
- Why nobody is talking about competition in the GPU market, I don't see any effort from the market ;
- AMD should be really supporting open source community, not only models but support a Open-Source-CUDA-like-technology what could potentially spread like wildfire;
- Man, I hate NVidia CEO, Sam Altman, Elon Musk;

How so? CUDA is predominately a software platform. There are others. Many others. AMD has ROCm. Intel has OneAPI. Apple has MLX. Microsoft has DirectML. Then there are open ones like OpenCL and SYCL. AMD even makes it easy to switch from CUDA to ROCm though HIP.
So you hate successful people who make products that people want to use. Afterall, that's why they are successful. So you prefer people who make no impact making products so bad that no one wants to touch them? So bad > good?
Dargkkast@reddit
You think they make the products? Are you 5 years old?
fallingdowndizzyvr@reddit
They are the people that enable the products to be made. So yes, they make the products. It's a group effort. That's called working as a team. You know, the things you never get invited to be in.
Dargkkast@reddit
They put the money. Which someone else would have put if they didn't, because that's how capitalism works, so tell me how come they matter individually when the system will make it happen either way? Success by accident is not (since they hire people without knowing if they will discover/invent/improve the things that they can/will).
Also, I see you have some emotional issues with conversations like this one. I'm sure a therapist would do wonders for you. Maybe you would even get to the point of going out and touching grass! Oh well, we can dream.
I wish you all the best for your recovery. Take care!

Ah... yeah. Without that money then the product could never be made. Also, they do more than that. They set the vision. Jobs was infamous for that. He had in his head what he wanted even though he couldn't make it himself. But he would ride his engineers until they made exactly what he had in his head. Most engineers just sit there twiddling their thumbs unless someone with vision tells them what to do. So they contribute much more than just the money.
LMAO!!!!!! Have you ever had a job? Have you ever been in a startup? Have you ever tried to start your own company. The vast majority of people, the VAST majority never have anyone put in the money. Nobody.
I just told you. Look above.
Damn. I didn't realize a little ribbing about how you were never picked for a team would open up so much trauma for you. Dude, it sucks but you need to toughen up a little. The world will continue to chew you up if you don't. Hugs.

Those people are just garbage humans attached to enticing products. Plenty of valid reasons to dislike them other than "because they are successful". And there are also valid reasons for being hesitant to give up CUDA, especially if you are doing any gamedev/3D modeling.
fallingdowndizzyvr@reddit
Those people were key in making those enticing products. Not just attached. If you dislike them, you are entitled to your own opinion. But you aren't entitled to your own facts. Facts are facts.
Like what? What games need CUDA. The tools are increasingly supporting other platforms.
trevr0n@reddit
They could be the only people involved in making their respective products and it still wouldn't change the factual content of my statement. The point is that it doesn't matter because they are not good people. You tried to imply that OP hated them for their success and I just wanted to let you know that your conclusion is ignorant. I don't think we need to act like they are some gift to humanity because they have a disproportionate amount of wealth and happened to pour it into cool tech.
I honestly don't know much about Nvidia's CEO so this is more about Altman and (mostly) Musk.
fallingdowndizzyvr@reddit
You mean the people who have literally changed the world and thus humanity aren't a "gift to humanity"? Who is then. The nice person who lives an entire life and makes no impact whatsoever?
I think the only point you made is your demonstration of ignorance. About what they have done and what it means. Clearly you have never been around anyone that makes an impact. Since by and large, they are what are considered to be AHs. Since they are. It takes that type of personality. It takes that vision. It takes that stubbornness to see something differently and keep on going on when everyone is telling them they are wrong and will fail. Because no one else can see it. That's what changes the world. Obviously, you have not been around many successful people. There's a reason "Never meet your heroes." is a saying.
Again, you are entitled to your own opinion of what you think of them. I think Musk is a Fucking AH. You are not entitled to your own facts. Musk has changed the world. In so many fields that it can't be coincidence. No one just "happens" to be that lucky. It's a lottery win to just "happen" upon that once. Musk didn't just "happen" upon it multiple times. Musk made it happen. Musk changed the world. Musk is a "gift to humanity".

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
fallingdowndizzyvr@reddit
Even more proof. Thank you for that.
Dargkkast@reddit
Bro, you've just said in that other comment that they're just the people who invest in the actual inventors. You're already proving yourself wrong, why do you double down? Is this some kind of cry for help? If so, blink twice.
fallingdowndizzyvr@reddit
Bro, I said they are the people the enable the products to be made. That its a team. So you are still proving how you don't know how a team works. Since you've never been picked to be on one.
