The only I had was an Aiwa HS-RD7 (I had to look it up) and it doesn't seem to be on this site.
superschaap81@reddit
I had 2 of these, maybe. Most of the tape players I had were cheapo K-Mart store models.
piscian19@reddit
I was poor so a shitty offbrand of some sort.
Electronic-Ride-564@reddit
Sanyo owner here. lol
sundayfunday78@reddit
WM-FS393 but in purple.

Wow, core-xennial memory unlock! I had this one... https://walkman.land/sony/wm-fx421
Auto-reverse was a must for me! I remember constantly checking inventory at Boscov's every time I went to the mall as I saved up for it. I finally had enough cash after my birthday, I had my parents take me to the mall and bought it, along with one of those bulky shoulder bag cases that could also hold a bunch of tapes.

My brother had a similar one. I was very jealous of his digital screen.
nickderrico82@reddit
Nice! I really wanted the next model above mine, which was similar but with the Mega Bass slider. But since I couldn't afford it, I gaslight myself into thinking I had the better model because it had a "more well-rounded" sound lol

I was all about the Panasonic Tape and Cd players. The best one I have though is a Sony Waterproof Walkman, Listening to music under water is magical AF.

I remember seeing the ads for waterproof Walkman and thinking that we live in the future.
agentmkultra666@reddit
Does anyone else just straight-up not remember what kind of walkman they had? I’m racking my brain and drawing a blank. Feels like a senior moment, hah.
I remember what the boombox in my room looked like, though i could not tell you the make and model. Maybe a Sony? I made about 1000 mixtapes on that thing
be_more_gooder@reddit
I'm scrolling and wondering, good lord, how many of these did I have?? At least 5 look very familiar.
TakingYourHand@reddit
Right? I feel like I've owned most of these. Did they break, a lot? Were they ridiculously cheap? I didn't have much money, but apparently I had many Walkmans.
be_more_gooder@reddit
That's what I was thinking! I was broke as a kid but I had multiple units of fairly new technology?

This one, in yellow.
https://walkman.land/panasonic/rq-sw20
It was awesome. Got it for my 14th birthday.
dishwasher_mayhem@reddit
Yep. This is the one.
AggressiveLime7659@reddit
YES this was my first one I loved that thing. Then I went to same version when I went to CD but I got way more time on the walkman I think
brawndoenjoyer@reddit
Oh hell yeah, same one I had. Locking that tape in was so satisfying.
jackatman@reddit
Digital tuner so you never have to listen to ads. Rad.
BunkerBuster420@reddit (OP)
Damn, that's the G-Shock of walkmans

Seeing one you recognized deeply was almost like a jump scare. Those were so ubiquitous until I was 14 and then gone.
TakingYourHand@reddit
Yup. This was mine. The auto flip feature was key! The waterproof feature was never an issue, lol..
_Tux4Life_@reddit
Well, it looks like I had the WM-BF59 https://walkman.land/sony/wm-bf59 . Man, took me awhile to find it, but I loved that thing and took it everywhere for a few years until CD's got bigger. What a trip down memory lane looking thru this site. :)
packetmon@reddit
I think I took the Sanyo MR59 through Europe in 1986.
But the one I used the most and I consider my actual walkman would have been the Sony WM-B53 or the BF59 or the BA59 (it's too close to remember which one it was).
running_on_fumes25@reddit
Amazing that they were selling these as recently as 2004
fishhead12@reddit
Not first, but definitely the best one
https://walkman.land/sony/wm-fx655
one of my first purchases when I started working a real job out of university.
Curiousone_78@reddit
I think it was a Casio.
867-53-oh-nein@reddit
Never had one. I did finally get a portable cd player in 2001. Had to buy an adapter though so I could play cds in my car stereo (tape deck).
puma_pantss@reddit
Could not tell you, but it was from a thrift store, it was way bigger than a walkman should be, and I used that thing until I was almost out of high school (so.. early 2000's)
That said, I didn't buy my first cell phone till I was in my mid 20's in 2007 or so. Clearly I was late to the game on a lot of things.
BunkerBuster420@reddit (OP)
That is late indeed. I think I got my first cell phone right before or after the new millennium. I’m from 1980. It was a Pocketline Swing which was one of the first affordable types of cell phones in the Netherlands. I remember my parents thinking I was nuts. “What do you need that for? We have a phone at home!”
puma_pantss@reddit
Hah. I felt the same as your parents. Plus, I had a general disdain for all things current (I listened to music 90s and prior, didn't have any social media until 2012 or so etc).
Hannibal__@reddit
Very cool. I think some of those mid-80s Japanese Walkmen were so cool, like the Aiwa and Hitachi ones are beautiful.
twilightswimmer@reddit
I think I still have one kicking around somewhere with the hard headband earphones.
ImagineModeratingLOL@reddit
I don't recall my first cassette walkman, although i did have one.
I DO remember my anti-skip CD walkman though - absolute gamechanger at the time
I also remember my first MP3 player - 12mb of space - I could fit 3 songs, 4 if they were short.
Canadatron@reddit
Still laying more chicks than Mother Goose too, I bet.

CPolland12@reddit
Definitely the Sony WM-EX21
It looked like that
BunkerBuster420@reddit (OP)
They had their own brand?
OkBaconBurger@reddit
It was red and I got it at RadioShack.
BunkerBuster420@reddit (OP)
This was my first one: https://walkman.land/sony/wm-ex16 and was given to me by my brother who bought a new one.
Paquistino@reddit
Same!
