Wow that takes me back. I actually interacted with an HP 9000 back in the day. Moving data to the then fairly new MS SQL Server via some crazy JPL code (IIRC). Good times.
Fun fact, years ago I worked for a software duplication & fulfillment firm, they were still doing mostly various data tape formats when I joined, plus floppies of course, but recordable CD technology had come to market so I was working on duplication & authoring tools for those as well as the tapes. So I recognised the tape cartridge right away, though I can't tell what size or capacity it would be.

I remember my friend having a TRS-80 with a cassette drive to load games from. Didn’t feel retro at the time.

HP-UX 5 wow. The first HP-UX I worked on was 9.0. Had it installed on an 817.
ken_the_boxer@reddit
Would it work on a /375
kokoboi1@reddit (OP)
You need a FOCUS machine for it
ken_the_boxer@reddit
Ah yes, noted. I do have HP-UX 5 for 68000 though.

I am not sure the latest HP-UX 5.5 for 9000/300 series will run on 68040
ken_the_boxer@reddit
Yes, that was a bit my question, I wanted to try. It runs 9 now and ran 7 before. It's a 375, so 68030+fpu. Got to keep busy..

Did you test the tape and it still works ?
idk if this is imaged, if not - would be a good thing to have an image.

Installing direct from tape, eh? That's not one I can claim to have done!

Oh, wow. I had no idea there was a 500 series of the HP 9000.
Fascinating.
