6800xt for 4k in 2025?

For context, I recently bought an asrock 9070xt for $750 including tax. However i realized that to me this was overkill when in reality I spend most of time playing competitive shooters or media consumption. In my head I thought I was "future proofing"
However, it still would be nice to get some use of my LG moniter's dual 4k mode once in a while. should I return the 9070xt and get a 6800xt especially since it will only cost me $150 since i can currently buy a used one for $350 and sell my 6700 10gb for $200.
Is 6800xt still enjoyable at 4k for just dipping my toes into 4k AAA games. I'm fine with upscaling.

6800xt and 4k? No. Don’t really go well together.
hammerdown46@reddit
I mean the PS5 pro is a 4k console using upscaling and it has the equivalent of roughly a rx 6800 in it.
I do not understand why people on the PC gaming side refuse to compare to console and refuse to consider upscaling.
The reality is yes you'd need FSR upscaling, no it wouldn't be a perfect experience, but sure it can do it because the PS5 pro is weaker and does it.

6800 XT with upscaling is a joke on 4K. Every new triple AAA won'r run above 30 FPS and that is also in question.

Again, did you read my comment?
The PS5 pro uses a Rx 6800 equivalent roughly. So yeah, a 6800xt is a 4k card.
I'm not sure what you're gatekeeping for. Every triple AAA game releases for the PS5 pro and they all make sacrifices to run at 4k 60 pretty much. And yeah, some are less than 60.
99.99999999999% of games weren't released in the last 5 years and all of them run amazing at 4k on a 6800xt.
A small handful run at gasps 30+ fps. That's playable. It's what console gamers do.

I have a 6800 XT, and it sucks with 4K, upscaling or not

Ps5 uses other technology to get the graphics on a weaker system, and the games are made for the specific console. People don’t compare the hardware because it is not the same.
I am sorry i don’t feel the struggle to get 30 fps on newish games on a 6800xt upscaling an enjoyable experience. If they get 6800xt for 1440p sure will get decent.

The PS5 pro is more efficient at running games than a PC because all it does is run games and a lightweight operating system. So pound for pound, a console will have better performance because it's doing less. The problem with FSR, it's fucking ugly. It's passable at 4k. But FSR4 is a huge step up. And the PS 5 pro uses fsr4. I wasn't happy with the frame rates I was getting with my 6800 XT at 1440p and how much I would have to turn down settings to run at 4K 60 FPS. So I picked up a 9070 XT. Recommending a 5-year-old 80 class GPU for 4K gaming. Not something most people are going to do.
hammerdown46@reddit
I mean that's why I at the end of the initial post recommended the 9060xt which offers comparable performance but with FSR4 lol.

I have an rx 6700xt and It was barely playable at 4k with fsr on. Maybe 35 fps. I don't think the 6800xt would be a big jump from that. The 9070 xt can do 4k native and I believe it has frame gen. Personally I upgraded to a 5070 and it can run 4k native at 70+ fps with no frame gen. It's a much better card for 4k and I believe the 9070xt is slightly better as its in line with the 5070ti
Turbulent-Ad3794@reddit
9070 xt isn't overkill for 4k when it is intended for 1440p.
6800 xt is also a 1440p at this point. 6900/6950xt on the other hand will get you about 60fps in 4k on most games.
ComplexIllustrious61@reddit
Keep the 9070xt... GPUs are only gonna get more $$$. 6800xt is no 4k GPU, even with FSR. The 9070xt is what you want.

I think the problem with new titles is going to be games requiring ray tracing. The 6800xt is not going to run those games at a playable 4k regardless of settings. I throw around playable very loosely as well. If I can hit 45+ fps I am usually good. You got a good card at a pretty good price, so unless you need the money I would keep it. It is a pretty big difference in performance still.
Raw performance you're looking at like 50% increase at 4k, even more if you use any ray tracing
PreviousAssistant367@reddit
6800XT is not a 4k card. It can manage most games 1440p, 100+fps on high settings and thats allright. I have 7800XT which is very similar.
