The best part about Aussie plane crashes is the name of the places they crash.

Living in Brisbane, I always liked the mix of English and Aboriginal names. You have West End right next to Woolloongabba, Kenmore next to Indooroopilly or Camp Hill next to Coorparoo.
woolykev@reddit
Coorparoo needs you to find the difference between these names
FixergirlAK@reddit
It's one of the things I love about Alaska, the completely random mix of Native languages, Russian, and English in place names.
TurnoverMysterious64@reddit
We’ve got the same thing going on here in Massachusetts, though I think the English place-names are more dominant here. We’ve also got a Kenmore (though it’s a square in Boston) along with many others like Peabody, Somerset, Ipswich, etc.
Then we have Wachusett, Nonamtum, and Mattapan, not to mention the name of the state itself. I have to admit that your aboriginal place-names are more fun to say than our native ones.
aquoad@reddit
Right by the shores of scenic Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg.
Figshitter@reddit
Come and visit us in Wagga Wagga or Maribyrnong sometime!
jello_sweaters@reddit
Sure, we can do a cultural exchange with Narragansett and Woonsocket.
Then we’ll swing up to Canada and visit Spallumcheen and Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump!
jello_sweaters@reddit
Dahling Haaahbah right near Barangaroo…
voronmatt@reddit
ok
Voodoo1970@reddit
I live near Tamborine. That's Tamborine, not Tambourine, because it's not named after the musical instrument, it's the name the Aboriginals used for the area (although they pronounced it differently, us modern whities just pronounce it like the instrument anyway)
Figshitter@reddit
While we're talking weird pronunciations for place names, can any Victorian explain what the hell's going on with Reservoir?
MaxwellKerman@reddit
I think most locals call it res-er-vor or res-ah-vor, and one who says res-er-vwar are just people from the other side of town.
ballimi@reddit
Just drove from Humpty Doo to Wak Wak

The nearby Monaro region, after which one of Australia's most famous car models is named, supposedly does.

Nuriootpa would have given the reporter a run for it
scallywagsworld@reddit
Haha what a coincidence I drove my truck to Nuri today for deliveries.
Most people just call it Nuri (New-Ree)
But others say NuriooPta instead of NuriooTpa.
Bergasms@reddit
Yeah i stick with nuri, easier on all involved
Who_Stole_Faralo@reddit
There are those weird people in the area who insist on using the full name though
bavotto@reddit
I always get Gumeracha wrong instead.
Who_Stole_Faralo@reddit
Isn't it just pronounced Gum-er-ck-a? That's how I've always heard it pronounced from people around me
fsblrt@reddit
Gentle reminder: a lot of place names here are taken from First Nations languages
SquirrelMoney8389@reddit
Aboriginal names are funny to you?

This is fake news tho, here fixed it for you : https://i.imgur.com/VimaeCN.png

Have to be super careful when opening the canopy though. Fall right into the sky, never to be seen again.
FrightenedOfSpoons@reddit
I've always liked Goonoo Goonoo. Two identical words not pronounced the same way.

Sounds like a MMORPG battle cry if you ask me.
jlt6666@reddit
I don't know being held in the ground, only by the nose of the plane is pretty cool too.
KibboKid@reddit
That's a place? I thought it was what the pilot shouted as he hit his head off the canopy.
AlexisFR@reddit
It's funny til you remember where these names came from, and what happened to them...
70125@reddit
Not to mention the death and destruction associated with plane crashes. This whole post is just tasteless and a symbol of the lack of empathy the Internet encourages. Sorry for being a buzzkill but this is a very strange post.
AaronYogur_t@reddit
The pilot and sole occupant of this plane was uninjured. Relax
70125@reddit
I figured as much given the state of the plane. OP's title is a general statement.
AaronYogur_t@reddit
I think it wasn't intended to be taken that way. I doubt OP would make such a lighthearted post if it was a complete wreck and people actually got seriously injured or died in it. Like you said it's pretty clear from the state of the plane in this case
AlexisFR@reddit
Very true!
cyberentomology@reddit
Sounds like Chinese brands on Amazon
DasFunktopus@reddit
Surviving the plane crash is the easy part, it’s surviving all the stuff down there that wants to kill you in its own unique and horrifying way afterwards that’s hard.
Aishas_Star@reddit
Sounds like you’re just a little too soft
andcirclejerk@reddit
What about Waikikamukau in New Zealand

Is that near Whanaphukamukau?
micksing66@reddit

That's just sound like the noise that came when the engine ingested water and died
Vinura@reddit
Nah that's just the sound the engine made before it stopped working.
