I literally don’t wanna hear anyone complain about potholes ever again

Just literally file a ticket by calling 311 or reporting it through the website or the app.
Some of them take longer than others, depending on a lot of factors, and if it’s really bad, they may decide to make it a street resurface project which obviously takes longer.
But I found a pothole and I reported it to 311 through the app on June 1 and it was fixed on June 3.
Literally 48 hours guys.
If there’s a pothole on your street or near your work and you’re upset about it, just call 311 like holy shit. Why the hell is everybody just sitting around complaining about potholes in the city instead of just doing the work it takes to get it done? There are people who are so eager to help . They are so nice and they are so responsive. I’ve reported red lights that are out, signs that have been knocked over, potholes, streets that are all screwed up, so many things, and they are all getting addressed.
theo4life1@reddit
Thank you for saying this. Ive said it before and people act like it’s an insane lie and most go back to non stop bitching and complaining.
I have had called and had 6 potholes filled since rhe pandemic around my neighborhood.
Every one of them was done within 2 weeks and 3 were done in less than 5 days.
Crunk_Tuna@reddit
So it took them one year a piece to fill? 6 years for 6 potholes is crazy as fuck
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Reading comprehension is your friend, they were just saying they took time out to do about six in the last few years and they didn't say it took 6 years for them to fix six potholes LOL
Crunk_Tuna@reddit
"I have had called" instead of "I called"
u/Sharknado; if anyone has a gripe about the way I phrased my opinion - you should be dead last. Missed that one didnt ya?
theo4life1@reddit
You’re working hard to prove that reporting potholes is somehow too easy to work, despire multiple people saying simply “hey, I have called before and potholes were fixed fast.”
Dragging in “months and years”, which no one has claimed as a timetable? This isn’t a panic attack inducing discussion.
Referencing “city overlords” like you’re a step away from blaming potholes on the Illuminati. It’s a pothole, not a psy-op. Take a breather, everything’s gonna be ok. 😂
Crunk_Tuna@reddit
Again to quote OP: "Literally only took 48 hours guys" who also said: "if it’s really bad, they may decide to make it a street resurface project which obviously takes longer"
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
I AM OP
Crunk_Tuna@reddit
Yeah cool, I'm glad I am talking directly to the source.
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
I live in Richardson lol. I have reported shit in FND, East Dallas, Design District, South Dallas...so many areas. It all gets addressed in time.
You live in Cedar Hill. Cedar Hill is a separate city.
Crunk_Tuna@reddit
Its Dallas County. Even If I drive up Beckley next to the hospital - I'm yet dodging potholes bigger than my fucking car
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Dallas 311 only has jurisdiction over DALLAS. If it's Dallas, call them.
If you're having issues on Beckley, CALL THEM.
Crunk_Tuna@reddit
They dont service Dallas county? Serious question
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Only city of Dallas.
If it's in Cedar Hill you got a call Cedar Hill Public Works
Crunk_Tuna@reddit
Like I said they have revamped the majority of the roads and updated the highway exits. Individual neighborhoods may vary. But what's worse is people parking on the street.
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
I can't speak for Cedar Hill but in Dallas if somebody is parked illegally on the street you can report it through the 311 app.
You should be able to speak to Cedar Hill public works if street parking is becoming a nuisance as the neighborhood grows as they may need to look at getting rid of street parking in certain areas to improve quality of life and traffic flow.
The city governments work for you and they love to hear from people about problems they can solve. But if you wait until you are as frustrated as you are and then start screaming at people they're not going to want to help you lol. I bet there is somebody at Cedar Hill City Hall or whatever it's called who would be so happy to meet you and hear what you think about your town.
Jmc_da_boss@reddit
"All of McKinney"
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Unfortunately, McKinney is not serviced by Dallas 311 but I’m sure McKinney has a public works department. You can contact possibly through a website or a phone number.
Jmc_da_boss@reddit
McKinney Ave
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Oh. Well you didn’t say that 🤣
ctrl-alt-del__@reddit
I called the city municipal number and, surprise, surprise, they connected me to the road authority—because who wouldn't want to chat about potholes? This one was a doozy, about 2 feet wide, just waiting to play tire roulette with unsuspecting drivers.
And my tires? Oh, just a casual $500 each for Michelin Pilot Sports 4s—because why not add some drama to my driving experience? So, I filed a complaint, and shockingly, they fixed the pothole in a mere 48 hours. Clearly, they must have a secret team of superheroes dedicated to road repairs! Who knew it was that easy?
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Where was the pothole? Cross streets? Sorry about your tires.
HRApprovedUsername@reddit
Can I report all of Ross?
dan1361@reddit
I've reported 18 potholes in downtown by calling 311 in the last two years.
They are resurfacing the streets right now, but aside from that they never repaired a single one. Lmao. Still love this city, but I think this works better in the suburbs.
Electrical-Peak5685@reddit
I want to call 311 and report your attitude mister.
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
They don’t have a category for that so you’re gonna have to select a general inquiry and fill out a really long questionnaire!
sealclubberfan@reddit
I randomly submit requests to 311 just saying "head west from greenville on ross towards downtown, you will see potholes". They take the cheapest possible material to fix said potholes, and they are back within a week.
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Now that many of the new construction projects are done, I believe Ross is going to be resurfaced in the coming quarters. The city seems to like to align major projects with tax revenue changes.
GhostMause14@reddit
311 is a waste, it's automated and you can never get through, I have a neighbor that put his trash can and recycleables in the front the whole week, I can never get through
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
I don't know what you are doing wrong but I speak with them all the time and also most of the tickets I file are through the app.
GhostMause14@reddit
I got through the phone and spoke to someone thank you
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
I have found that it's the hardest to get through to them between 8 and 10:00 p.m. because they are bombarded with calls from people like you who are mad that their trash hasn't been collected LOL.
You can just file a ticket on the app
GhostMause14@reddit
Oh yeah, I wasn't mad about my trash not being taken, I'm mad that my neighbors leave out their empty containers on their resident property so nobody can park there. Code compliance told us we have to put ours beside our house or in the back. They haven't told the neighbors anything, I was thinking why?
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Oh - then report that! :)
GhostMause14@reddit
I did
SassGoblin@reddit
Use the app then??
dfwlivin87@reddit
Dumb question… work for all DFW cities? Depend on the county? Denton specifically. My street needs some fills and I’m sure no one has reported it before
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Dallas 311 is only for Dallas City limits, however Denton probably has a public works department you can call. They may have a procedure for filing tickets online, I believe Garland does for example
dfwlivin87@reddit
Appreciate the info!
deadsixtythree@reddit
Oh fr?! ! I’m about to submit a few for Ross.. I’m tired of my caniac combo and fries flying outta my passenger seat when I hit a pothole
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
I have filed a couple of tickets for Ross and they have gotten rejected because they are redundant based on work already in progress. I think they are about to start resurfacing some areas of the street.
Nevertheless report as much as you can because the more reports they get the more resources they can route to a specific street. Everybody complain!!!!!!
francoisdilinger@reddit
Because it’s too much for the city to notice the craters on their own…
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
DFW has over 50 miles of roadway per resident, if you want them to hire inspectors that costs money which means higher taxes. If you want to pay lower taxes then cities like New York or Los angeles, you got to do a little bit of work
yourdailyorwell@reddit
"DFW has over 50 miles of roadway per resident"
This isn't possible, there's 1.3 million people that live in Dallas.
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
I said DFW
yourdailyorwell@reddit
Maybe I'm misunderstanding you?
DFW has \~8.3 million residents. That would be 415+ million miles of road of road at 50 miles per resident.
Google and chatgpt suggest there's \~115k miles of public roadways. Idk if I'm missing something but I don't think it's possible to build 50 miles of roadway per resident.
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
I'm going to have to dig, somebody did a study and it determined that Houston has like 55 miles of roadway per resident in the Houston metropolitan area. I believe DFW was similar.
redd38_reddit@reddit
I live on a street that is basically disintegrating, I saw a thread last week about the 311 app so last Friday I used the app to report one of the potholes, Tuesday I got notification that it was fixed. No actual work was done though. They didn't fill the pothole I reported nor did they accidentally fill one of the dozen near it. I reported another one yesterday so I'll see if it was just a fluke.
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
What street? Between what cross streets? I can try reporting stuff too.
I had that happen once where I reported a pothole on Inwood and I didn't attach a clear photo of which one I was talking about. Upon closer inspection I realized somebody showed up and fixed a smaller one, lol. Okay, cool, thanks for fixing it.
Also if a pothole is above a certain size it should really be reported as "street repair."
redd38_reddit@reddit
It's Bent Tree Forest Dr between Keller Springs and Knoll Trail. Better photos might be the key. It really needs a full street repair but none of the individual potholes are bigger than 3ft x 3ft
Nervous-Armadillo-47@reddit
Honestly didn’t even know this was an option thank you for pointing it out. There is a bad pothole at Oak Lawn and Cedar Springs that has been there for over a year. Just submitted it. Hoping it’s fixed early next week
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Bless you, I think I’ve seen that one but I had not reported it yet. I did recently report a few others in that area.
The one I reported on 6/1 was at Irving Blvd & Manufacturing St. It was fixed 6/3.
I’ve reported several others but I haven’t driven past them to see the work LOL I am excited to though.
One of my reports on Ross got rejected because apparently it was a duplicate request and it is already part of an upcoming resurface project.
YaGetSkeeted0n@reddit
FYI that’s been upcoming for a couple years now lol
We’ll see which we get first: GTA 6, Half-Life 3, or a Ross Avenue that doesn’t look like the infamous Highway to Hell
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Where is the remind me bot lol I wanna know what happens in five years
TransportationEng@reddit
Ross is ridiculously bad.
soggyballsack@reddit
Whats the apps name or link please.
Lightsfantastic@reddit
Literally dial 311.
soggyballsack@reddit
You mean physically dial 311?
Lightsfantastic@reddit
Yes.

soggyballsack@reddit
Just downloaded it. Thank you
drewforty@reddit
The Dallas 311 app is pretty good. The problem for me is that my “potholes” are misaligned manhole covers for underground utilities. These have to go to the related infrastructure company and almost always get mishandled.
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
I agree that misaligned manholes are a problem, I have reported those and they always get referred to AT&T or whatever and it seems like those end up in a black hole
drewforty@reddit
Yep Ive had an atmos one done but it took forever and an ATT one I’ve submitted 3 times over a year and it hasn’t been fixed. One time they did something with another manhole cover near by and twice it’s just the blackhole. Generally happy with 311 though.
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
There's an AT&T one on Greenville in front of the Sunoco, I have a ticket number and I've been meaning to call AT&T about it
drewforty@reddit
They’re most likely subbing the work out themselves. Probably how they get lost in the game of telephone.
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Makes sense unfortunately
Autumnfalcon1@reddit
They will have to shut down Ross entirely to fix those potholes
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
No, they'll just resurface it lane by lane like they did with Hall. It was painful for several weeks, but now the portion of Hull Street between Ross and Central expressway is one of the nicest roads in the city.
Autumnfalcon1@reddit
Sure but at the cost of 3 fixed flats in a month for me. I live off of Haskell so taking that stretch down hall is my normal route and I’m not exaggerating when I say I had to get my tires patched three different times in one month, despite the road being open. Might be a one off construction project issue, but boy did it sour my experience with them
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
I hear you, at the end of the day I think it just has to do with funding and project management, plus there's only so much labor to resurface a lot of these roads and there's just a lot going on in the city. Potholes are easy when they can be patched easily but Road resurfacing takes permits and coordination and a lot of Labor. I have been where you are though because I have had a couple of blowouts, I've driven 100,000 miles in the last 17 months so I have chewed through tires like nobody's business.
I use Haskell and peak a lot as workaround streets. I'll try to keep an extra eye out for you if I see a couple of potholes and get them on the app for ya :)
SadatayAllDamnDay@reddit
On one hand, you are correct about the response.
On the other hand, get back to me in a month when that pothole is right back to what it was before maybe worse.
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
Potholes are like cavities, if you patch them too late then it doesn't last long.
thatsAgood1jay@reddit
It takes less effort to bitch and moan publicly than actually work the system to enact change.
sharknado523@reddit (OP)
That's true I suppose lol
Lightsfantastic@reddit
Preach!
FuturePath6357@reddit
Exactly. People would rather complain on reddit rather than use the resources available to them.
Oodapoop@reddit
Perhaps people don't know the resources?
Lurcher99@reddit
Is that not the reason most join reddit?
ChicagoRay312@reddit
How does one report all of Lemmon Ave after Wycliff?

Great website to check for Dallas projects use a block number along with the street name in the search option
malicious-turd@reddit
It's not potholes that need to be filled that are the issue it's the misaligned concrete slabs causing peaks and valleys
2-4-6-h8@reddit
Earlier last year, they did some major construction on Cesar Chavez Blvd. by the new futsal fields/Farmer's Market.
The pavement they worked on started sinking, creating a big dip across the entire street. I used the 311 app to report it after I saw someone bottom out their car driving past. They came out 3 days later and did a hot patch, only on the corner though. I reported it again and they came back out and patched it across the road.
It didn't help but at least they are in fact responding to 311 requests. It does work and I've reported other spots on Good Latimer that have been taken care of fairly quickly.
MiddleAd6302@reddit
Easier to complain than take the time to submit an issue.
Call 311 for several items.
Water leaks
Pot Holes
Cement on the ground removal
Street lights changing too fast - typically after a repair
It’s quite helpful to be aware of Public Works.
Terrible_Shelter_345@reddit
What are some other things that should be this obvious/available for people to use?
