Love it or Hate it? I was into Real World for the first few seasons, but nothing else after. The other shows seemed like garbage.

Hate it. Except 90-day-fiance.

My roommates and I watched Joe Millionaire in college because "Joe" reminded us of one roommate who, like "Joe" on the show, was completely oblivious to the mockery.

Hated it. But for some reason, I got sucked into "The Surreal Life". It was like watching a trainwreck happening in real time. D-List celebrities thinking they're still hot shit and then just being terrible human beings. So weird.
Outside of that, my ex-wife watched all kinds of it. Storage Wars, Hell's Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares etc etc. Which is weird, cause we met working in restaurant kitchens, hating the job. I would read or play video games when she watched them.

Loathe it.

Hate it, it’s a farse, always has been. I worked on a production for reality tv in Ibiza and saw first hand that not one tiny inkling of reality is real.

Can't stand them. Tried to get into welcome to wrexham as I love Wales and footie but it was all so fake and scripted I quit after the welcome to Wales episode. The comeback was a great satire of them.

I hate them. I don't think they have ever truly been "reality", but they certainly aren't even close now. I don't see the fascination in seeing the lives of degenerates. Is it just me, or have they gotten exponentially more trashy in the last 5 or so years? There is one that is called MILF something (I can't be bothered to look it up). Characters or contestants (?) on the show have sons and mothers on a "dating" show. We are getting close to having incest on camera.
Purely disgusting.
Basic-Biscotti-2375@reddit
Hate, hate, hate it. The secondhand embarrassment and cringe is off the charts for me. Same goes for those talent shows like The Voice.
Overall_Falcon_8526@reddit
I don't mind shows that are like cooking competitions. But just watching people be dickheads in various states of undress? Nah.
Still-Barber-3034@reddit
After Puck put his fingers in the peanut butter, it was a steady downhill slide. And now he's president!
Remy0507@reddit
Garbage, hate it. Other than maybe the early seasons of Hell's Kitchen back in the day...
Character_Bend_5824@reddit
I hated the old "reality" shows with shoulder mount cameras and all the wobbly pans and zooms. I think the idea was to make it feel like a really really real home video. The newer ones have come a long way with the camera work. Now, they use steadicam or a proper tripod for the interview style shots. The only one I watch with any regularity is 'Below Deck'. Andy Cohen does have a gift for placing incompatible people on a screen, but the catty drama gets old after a while. Sometimes I prefer to watch perfect people make a bed or wash windows.
sweeneyty@reddit
after puck they decided they had to script everything from then on. richards naked survivor was the last hoorah attempt to break it. been rubbish since.
BlueSnaggleTooth359@reddit
hate it
BoltsGuy02@reddit
It’s bad, our generation definitely got that horrid ball rolling.
Into-the-stream@reddit
I liked the idea of them being a sociological experiment.
But it was just people gossiping and being ducks to one another. Felt like high school.
Frosty_Cloud_2888@reddit
I watch TV to try and escape reality. I want to watch people stir up drama I would stay and work for the overtime.
Justin_Sideme@reddit
Road Rules season one only.
nocapnonerf@reddit
Does Fear Factor count? Watched it here and there but not routinely.
impliedapathy@reddit
I personally can’t stand reality tv. Beyond being scripted, it’s just trash. It’d be interesting to hear what historians say about reality tv and social media 100 years from now.
Mountain-Fox-2123@reddit
Never watched it, so i have no opinion on it.
sweat-it-all-out@reddit
The Amazing Race is the only one I still watch.
Significant_Dog412@reddit
I did watch a few in the 00s, including Big Brother which was the big one for us Brits. Watched a few of the early years, but eventually lost interest. Some of the stuff I watched in those years has not aged well.
After a while, it obviously moved away from relatively normal people being put in these situations and deliberately cast the sort of freaks you'd cross the street to avoid, and producers meddling far more for "drama".
We never really got The Real World, and I've only ever seen some of the 2000 New Orleans season. With reality TV hindsight, the Mormon girl that year feels like an early prototype for the "loveable" idiot like Jessica Simpson, or for Britain the late Jade Goody, that reality TV would later really get behind.
twirlerina024@reddit
Loved it, but it's not fun anymore. I think since social media, everyone's become too self-aware and they're either on their best behavior or being outrageously awful to make a storyline for themselves. It peaked in the mid-00's. Although I did like season 1 of F-Boy Island, but that was meant almost as a parody.
Fair_Blood3176@reddit
I watched a lot of Real World.
Recently I watched some newer Real World and they started allowing flights! The season I watched just ended in crazy fights.
I remember before it was like high school no tolerance with violence. I guess that's the bad girls club effect?
figment1979@reddit
Hard pass - it became obvious real quick that most times there was almost nothing “real” about them, far too much scripted.
Reasonable-Wave8093@reddit
Yep, just NY & Sf & the first road rules 🚐
